Description:
Given my ham-fisted attempts at sound engineering, my good friend Kenta was kind enough to take my GB files from the original Phosphour and re-master it for me. He also added some cool percussion, a bass line, and some creative editing to flesh it out more completely.
It's amazing what the difference in sound is now, especially the lead guitar tone. Nobody can accuse it of being thin sounding now.
Great job Kenta!
Hardware:
Strat, Pod, Fender Pro 185 amp, Seagull
Software:
GB2, GB '08, SoundStudio3

Neat mixing job, Kenta... &mdash 04/12/08 - 04:51:57 PM
It certainly ends up having phenomenal presence all around, and each guitar ends up having its own space...
Great lesson in what mixing and mastering can do for the basic musical goods...

It sure was a good lesson... I have purchase GB 08 and also tryout SoundStudio3. So I think it was a good idea to try it and in the same time help my friend Pete a little... I'm glad you liked the result.
Take care

Seems to have done the trick &mdash 04/12/08 - 06:56:25 PM
Seems like people agree, Kenta really knows his way around a mixer/eq/compressor. What a huge difference between this and the orginal.
Thanks for giving me something to shoot for Kenta. There is a world of improvement in my engineering technique that you've opened my eyes to.

Very clear &mdash 04/13/08 - 05:34:54 AM
and well produced. The track itself is very good and I enjoye listening to it. Its very relaxing and has very good rhythms and melodies. Very cool track. [ Reply to This ]
Ya &mdash 04/15/08 - 09:15:19 PM
I really like the upfront percussion and especially the picking guitar is so much forward and clean.
Way to go! [ Reply to This ]
More cowbell!! &mdash 04/16/08 - 02:37:53 AM
Just kidding. I didn't like the cowbell and I didn't think the drums fit very well (too many fills and the stereo spread seemed too wide). The guitars sounded fantastic though!! Put some real drums on this (no offense Kenta) and I think the song would gel much better. [ Reply to This ]
It's cool &mdash 04/16/08 - 05:50:13 PM
But forget that drums just focus on the guitars man THEY is the thing I really love... Cheers [ Reply to This ]
Yes &mdash 04/17/08 - 12:51:55 AM
Very definite &mdash 04/16/08 - 11:08:54 AM
improvement... For my personal taste I would bring the electric guitar down slightly and pan it maybe left a few. Just my personal taste! [ Reply to This ]

Clipping? &mdash 04/17/08 - 11:22:51 AM
Hey Skean,
I love the mix, but couldn't help hearing some clipping?
Back in the day of old analog boards, some soft clipping really warmed up the sound and made it feel big, but in the digital recording world, clipping just makes static sounds (like white noise).
Is it my headphone speakers, or did your level meters show red clipping? [ Reply to This ]
A Hit! &mdash 04/26/08 - 07:58:17 AM
Killer brother. Very great instrumental piece. I enjoyed it a lot.... I have in mind couple of pieces in that style but unfortunately no time to record and no real good equipments.. This is killer!!

nice solo &mdash 05/05/08 - 06:56:22 PM
Love the guitar. Very emotional, the melody is bittersweet and deep. it's incredible, but a human voice could never pull this sort of thing off.
Really nice!
