The production values are really well done here with some great instrumentation. Very nice. Musically and lyrically, I felt that the song failed to hook me as a listener and take me along willingly. There isn't enough happening here, lyrically, to compel me to listen. The 2nd (and 3rd) verse really doesn't add anything new to the song - it's pretty much "more of the same thing" as stated in the 1st verse.
"Hard Way Every Time" was a minor hit for Jim Croce back in the '70's .... probably safe to re-use that title/concept given the amount of time that has passed, but if you listen to his song you will see that the lyrics truly express the struggles of someone choosing "the hard way every time" where I don't see that here.
Sung very nicely, has a '60's folk feel to it (imho).
