Description:
A new project. This is the overture of an opera I wrote many years ago. I never had the opportunity to get it performed or recorded in a good professional way. Now, with the help of Richard Schletty and hopefully two more singers, and with the help of my built in GB orchestra, I hope to finally hear the whole opera from beginning till end. A long project, but I am very excited about it! This overture sets the mood, plants the seeds... and it is very very different from my other music...

The opera is based on a short story by Edgar Allen Poe, called "In Articulo Mortis", written for 3 singers, string quintet and piano.

Ominous and Poe-like &mdash 04/22/08 - 02:11:01 AM
Befitting the story - can't wait to hear it with vocals.

Big Project &mdash 04/23/08 - 09:48:20 AM
I have read about how synthesizers have put professional musicians out of work because of the ability to mimic - the therefore replace - the many different instruments with a single unit. This big project shows the flip side, where a synthesizer allows the creation of a work that wouldn't happen because of cost restrictions. That's a vivid demonstration of the power of GarageBand!

It is exciting ... and scary ... to take on a big project like this. But it is obvious from listening to your other posts here on Macjams that you have the skills to make it happen.

The opening melody is appropriately ominous for a Poe piece. I'm looking forward to hearing it develop. And now I know why Richard Schletty has been practicing his German accent : >
