Description:
This is my (Johannes') experience from this take: One day in early March we had Kerstin joining us for some vocal jamming. Kerstin were singing a worship song composed by someone, (don't know who, I just followed her). Then after a while she - or we? - went over to a jam of our own. I personally didn't sense the difference because I'd never heard the worship song before. But Kerstin can tell that from the point where this track start, it is completely our own composition, or jam.

Vocals - Kerstin
Bass - Björn
Guitar right - Björna
Guitar left - Johannes
Composition/jam - all four

PS You can hear more of Kerstin's music on her myspace page. You can also hear her on MJ song Three Sixteen.

Hardware:
Two acoustic guitars
An acoustic (lined) bass guitar
Two Golden Age Project R1 mics
A Presonus Firebox interface
A BowerBook G4

Software:
OS X, LE

Rolling Tape As... &mdash 04/22/08 - 06:48:08 AM
a Song Is Born.

Rough and ragged to begin with, but growing with musical confidence as it goes along, this piece finds its enthusiasm and sails on from that point.

It reminds me of sessions many... many... years ago when I and a couple of mates sat down to write a musical. We left tape rolling as we improvised some general ideas. Those sessions eventually helped yield some solid musical ideas for about half the score for our play.

Sometimes these spontaneous sessions can produce some of the most honest and poignant musical pieces.

Thanks for letting us *sit in* on your session. It was very pleasant. ;)

Thank you Joe .. You probably don't know how much I agree with you (or you do) .. So much of music is born in the moment, and it can't be played the same way later .. at least not with the special mood that was when it was made.

Your comment reminds me that it is only during the last hundred years that man has recorded music. Before that it was performed once. Even if the same piece was performed again it was different than the day before. This impalpable nature of live music fascinates me. You can't get it back. Letting "recording roll" gives a new dimension though. The casual transitory moment can be caught today. That fascinates me too.

Ahh.. I love this &mdash 04/22/08 - 11:32:18 AM
Nothing like a written song turning into spontaneity, especially when it is a song of thanksgiving. Wow. You guys follow her lead so well, too. Great rhythm and picking. You sure flow together! Lovely voice and worshipful spirit, Kerstin. I'm going over to your MySpace page now. :-)

To quote Meister Eckhart, &mdash 04/24/08 - 08:48:20 PM
"If the only prayer you ever said was, 'Thank you', that would be enough."

I like hearing this fall into place. It's particularly cool to have someone who can do vocal improvisation. Kerstin has a wonderful lilting quality in her voice, and a sweetness and a strong sense of pitch.

I also like hearing the bass in this. It's nicely and naturally captured.

As an ensemble, the sense of space and air is also natural and airy.

This kept sounding to me like it was wanting to fall into a version of 'Blue Moon'...

It's very nice to hear these group recordings....
