Description:
For the Celts, Beltane marked the beginning of the pastoral summer season when the herds of livestock were driven out to the summer pastures and mountain grazing ... got it?
I certainly don't and I'm clueless where this tune came from, I was set on doing another song - acoustic one take kinda thing, after 12 disappointing 'one takes' I got fed up and... 'The Sacred Fires Of Beltane' materialised.

Lyrics:
Work we never work
It keeps us sane
And while we slept
They built a town around us
Keeping warm beside
The sacred fires of Beltane
Dream we never dream
There is no pain
And while we rest
They built a world around us
Keeping warm beside
The sacred fires of Beltane

No Monday morning faces
No lost it at the races
High the price but what's the deal
Live - love
Keep it unreal
Wake up for tea and sponge cake
No sweat when there's no slack to
Take a space and sit down next to me
Then we'll get happy
Happy is the grafter
That's not what we're after
Jamming on the guitar
That's the story so far

Work we never work
It keeps us sane
And while we slept
They built a town around us
Keeping warm beside
The sacred fires of Beltane
Dream we never dream
There is no pain
And while we rest
They built a world around us
Keeping warm beside
The sacred fires of Beltane

Born in the sign of a wandering star
Chilled to the maximum calibre
Who in the hell do we think we are

Work we never work
It keeps us sane
And while we slept
They built a town around us
Keeping warm beside
The sacred fires of Beltane
Dream we never dream
There is no pain
And while we rest
They built a world around us
Keeping warm beside
The sacred fires of Beltane

Where is that land gone loco
Beyond the blue horizo
Not likely I should coco
We keep it all inside of we
And love and pain they're much the same
Because you get them both for free
That's right for you and me
Here's the how
Hear me now

Work we never work
It keeps us sane
And while we slept
They built a town around us
Keeping warm beside
The sacred fires of Beltane
Dream we never dream
There is no pain
And while we rest
They built a world around us
Keeping warm beside
The sacred fires of Beltane

This is overflowing with creativity Johnny Boy. Fantastic lyrics and very, very well crafted music. First rate production too. Love it - even the abrupt ending. Downloaded. Thanks.
Cheers

I wish I was overflowing with cider but I guess that's endemic of the human condition, glad you like it Lenny.

They dream of 1963 and Biba Nova. &mdash 04/28/08 - 08:04:11 PM
Is that the line... it's from Rock Follies... some fine tunes from Andy Mackay. I'm rambling and it's good - I'm impressed by your impression. Fond regards mon petite fleur.

As Len Says &mdash 04/25/08 - 06:32:35 AM
you're always so creative and listenable... I love the tone of your voice and you never fail to entertain. This is so unusual lyric-wise and the way you've varied the sound of your vocal throughout the song is really good, well enjoyed, cheers M

Like the sound BPJ &mdash 04/28/08 - 02:38:09 AM
You seem to be drifting somewhere between the ground(s) often occupied by Ray Davies and Blur, yet have such a distinctive sound of your own.

Great production and always entertaining songs - always enjoy your stuff. Nice ending ;)
