Description:
Alight, so a few days after posting my last track "The Pain" I received an offer MJ's very own rsorensen to lay down some vocals. I naturally jumped on this offer and here is the resulting song.

Ridd came up with the idea of writing the song about the Son Tay raid from the Vietnam War. The theme fit and added some power to the track. Here is some info on the raid: www.psywarrior.com/sontay.html

The completed song came out great and Ridd's vocals worked perfect (Thanks man!) Enjoy

If you haven't checked out Ridd's work yet take my advice and do so - you'll thank me. www.macjams.com/artist/rsorensen

Lyrics:
"Prisoners of War" (lyrics by rsorensen)

We lay our rifles at our feet
And throw our hands up to the stars
The war has ended for us now
We cannot fight them behind bars

They swear in language we dont speak
And throw us in a tiger cage
They don't let us go to sleep
But we would not sleep anyway

Chorus:
We are prisoners of war
We've become unknown soldiers
We've been listed M.I.A.
Fighting for the U.S.A.

They stretch our joints with burning rope
And try to make us confess lies
Their dogs eat better than we do
But we subsist on stale rice

And we will fight captivity
We will get out of this hole
Soon our troops will set us free
And we will be heroes at home

Chorus

They finally came for us that night
The sky was clear and full of stars
Their rifles fired into our camp
They came down fast and came down hard

The fireworks lit up the dark
The smoke of gunfire filled the air
But when that thick smoke had all cleared
They searched our camp and we weren't there

Chorus

wrote those lyrics? They're incredible. Nick, your guitar/bass/drum/keyboard work fits great with Ridd's vocals. Great Job, I really enjoyed listening to it.

It was a pleasure Ridd. Yeah it took a while to find the right samples but I think we got it. This was my first collab here and was definitely fun to do. Thanks for providing your creativity.

Maybe we'll do it again sometime!

Thanks for checking the new version out Yeman. Your great comments are always appreciated. It does sound much better with the vocals now. I always feel the mix could use more but thats just the perfectionist in me.
Peace

An excellent &mdash 04/25/08 - 03:58:26 AM
commentary on a war that was such a drain on so many people with cruelties. A very atmospheric song with the sound effects, but well sung and played and the lyrics very descriptive, cheers M

to see you Maurice, Glad to hear you liked it. We put a lot of work in to this to make sure it felt right. I tried to keep the effects in the background so as to not overpower the rest.
Thanks for stopping by!

Love how....... &mdash 04/25/08 - 01:31:47 PM
the guitar comes in like a helicopter. Nick, excellent vocals. Your voice sounds so smooth, especially at the chorus.

Really brilliant guys, just brilliant.

helicopter &mdash 04/25/08 - 01:56:00 PM
Yeah the wah at the beginning sounded a little like a helicopter so I decided to go with it and add an actual sample.
All the vox on this are Ridd's. I can only take credit for the sound bed.
Thanks for listening Dave!

yeah &mdash 04/25/08 - 10:41:39 PM
it seemed like a good fit. Ridd knocked it out of the park on the vox too. This is probably one of the more complete tracks I've done in a while. I spent a little more time on the sound.
Thanks Michael.

Hey Vic. Man I haven't heard "Rooster" in a long time. Now I'm gonna have to go listen again. I didn't make that connection originally but I know what you mean.

Very cool &mdash 04/26/08 - 03:55:34 PM
The production is outstanding. I love the drum sound and the guitar sounds are excellent. It's a terrific mix, with a great balance between the different instruments and sounds. The lyrics are excellent, and the vocal performance is terrific. Very impressive track. Nicely done. Peace.

mix &mdash 04/26/08 - 09:22:07 PM
The drums are Drums on Demand, but only a couple full loops are used. The right balance of instruments took a long time to hit. I remixed this one more times than I can remember. Now if just everything could come out this way!
Thanks for the comments

Hey Craft, your collab with Ridd was something else too. It just came together perfect.
I'll have to call the radio station now and make a request. (Of course there are only country and oldies stations here)

Thanks,

Epic &mdash 04/28/08 - 11:49:51 PM
Man, This is a real treat. Epic song. Sweeping in breadth. Brutal in depth. The mix is outrageous. The bass is exceptionally crisp and well mixed. Ridd's lyrics and vox are outstanding. After the TV vocal sample the break-out is great. Full longing crescendo. Bravo guys.

Thanks Phil. Yeah I may have to stop posting songs now considering this will be hard to top. I was inspired to write that big ending after seeing a live show from Lifehouse a few months back.
I love your new collab with Steve.

Thanks for the comments.

the story &mdash 04/30/08 - 12:31:58 AM
Plus I went back and read the story about the actual event in the Vietnam War you link to above. What an amazing story, daring, inspiring, and sadly disappointing all at once. Thanks for the added "color" to the song.--P

really very evocative and almost cinematic in it's delivery, quite a touchy subject as well I guess given the politics of the then and now... it is a great song ,nice one...BTW how the devil do you keep your studio so neat....please tell me you cleaned it up spesh for the photo..please,please,please

Thanks Jarvoid, it is a bit of a touchy subject but it is an interesting story also. As Ridd said it is almost suprising that a movie has not been made yet.
Oh, and I will admit I did clean the studio earlier that day. I usually does have paper and crap strewn about since it doubles as my office.
