Description:
Part of a concept record I’m working on. One song already posted here, “Dear World” (http://www.macjams.com/song/31574). This song takes place after World War III, when people are rounded together in a place called The New City. Then everyone in the new community has a transcendent, evolutionary experience together. Yep.

I tend to add guitar parts over and over again, so the end part’s supposed to sound that way, a wall of sound, but perhaps I went too far this time…

Lyrics:
The New City is my home
And I love all I know

In the beginning of our lives
Is it the end of what we’re like
In the beginning of our time
Is it the end of our desires
In the beginning of our childhood
Is it the end of adult vice
In the beginning of our rise
Is it the end of our decline

The New City is my home
And I love all I know

really cool &mdash 04/25/08 - 07:18:07 PM
i love the way you layered the guitars, it's like a guitorchestra. this music is genre-less, and that is really cool. what kind of guitar are you using, love the brightness. how are you amping it? you get really great sounds. really nice song.

Thanks &mdash 04/25/08 - 07:27:06 PM
A lot. I'm using an old, old Squier Stratocaster that has trouble staying in tune from one take to the next. It's around 20 years old - back then Squiers were built better than they are today, I think. Running it straight into a M-Audio Firewire solo and whatever effects LE 8 has to offer. Anyway, thanks, I'm trying to take more time with sounds. Used to be more lo-fi and lazy about it.

very enjoyable &mdash 04/25/08 - 08:22:58 PM
it defnitely keeps you engaged when you listen. i always like when someone figures out a way to get this much happening simultaneously without ever once overwhelming.

I love the multi-guitars... &mdash 04/25/08 - 11:32:40 PM
I'm listening on my third time through...

I also love the song/countersong arrangement, and the simple, hypnotic melody.... Neat song, and I bet that in context it'd be even stronger...

At the end, there's some guitar buzz, but the ending stops too fast... It'd be better, even with the buzz, to bring the fader down slowly. It'd fit thematically, and actually sound better. Or use SoundSoap or another noise eliminator...

Those guitars, though...awesome...

that's annoying. Serves me right for not listening to the mixdown to the end before posting it. I didn't set the bounce for long enough.

great approach on the guitars. they contrast and gel real nicely. i really like how this progresses all the way through. too many layers_ nah never. really enjoyed it.

new. &mdash 04/28/08 - 05:17:34 PM
I made a new mix with a marginally better drum take, a better fade out in the end, and used the LE silencer to cut down noise. There should be an option here to replace an old mp3. Anyway, to be found here:

the layers and the dark melody going over those bright guitars. Very well done. Great drum sound, too.
