Description:
Well I am snowed in tonight and can't go out so I sat down with the acoustic and wrote this, and it went from this mellow almost Trip Hop vibe into a chorus that cried out for massive layered rhythm guitars. So I put down the acoustic and plugged in. The lyrics are about a relationship that never seems to get past skin deep because the other party is a little relationally A.D.D. but they fascinate and captivate me becausewhen we are together we have a kinship and the deepest conversations about the things that really matter such as personal growth and spirituality. This person's affections however get invested in the shallowest relationships that flake out within weeks. I'm sorry I'm totally ranting here. On to the music. Everything was recorded in one pass which is my style for these sketches so there are a few mistakes present:) It is a short piece at about 2 minutes 20 seconds, hope you enjoy.
Lyrics:
Your heart slips through these fingersLike the shifting sliding sands
Your gaze just never lingers
But I'm a patient man
I'm a patient man
But I'll do all that I can
I'm a patient man
and one day you'll be mine
I'm a patient man
But I'll do all that I can
I'm a patient man
But I won't be left behind
Affections like a butterfly
That never ever seem to land
your thoughts always pass me by
but I'm a patient man
I'm a patient man
But I'll do all that I can
I'm a patient man
and one day you'll be mine
I'm a patient man
But I'll do all that I can
I'm a patient man
But I won't be left behind

I'm amazed at what can be done with the built mics!
duhdewd
I started using them out of necessity on my old PowerBook G4. They seem to be even better on the newer machines. This summer I'm finally upgrading to a workable diaphram (recommendations welcome) preferably with a tube and an Apogee Duet since I am not in a band and never need more than two inputs at a time. Thanks for listening and commenting.

50 first dates? Really like the mix, and the way you used the electric. Like your style; good for my ears.

Ha ha ha. Yeah 50 first dates is right. Every time I wonder if I even have a chance with this woman we'll talk for another few hours and I'm freakin hooked all over again. I'm glad you enjoyed this one too! Thanks for listening to it. I can't wait to get My new compy and some mics so I can actually get my rig in on this one.

I'm not one harp on about production. I think this a very well-written song. Good vocal delivery, too.
Enjoyed this a lot.
Be patient.

This is really cool Mike! Welcome to MJ! I hope you'll stick around.
Mmmmmm...love the bite on those rhythm guitars. Nice vocal work too friend. KUDOS!
Be well!

Hey thanks for the welcome.

...I didn't listen to this one first? 'Cause I started at the bottom of the list. :)
I like this version better except for the hiss. You use the same vocal mic? What changed? Oh, and the drum loops again. Other than that, great song and performance! I like your style. Has a Lou Reed thing going on. I dig it.
duhdewd
That his is because I am using the built in mic and I have a loud fountain in a Koi pond in the next room to contend with, so I turn the mics input down, sing real close to it, then crank it in the mix:) It gets rid of the ambient water noise which would be cool on something a little more mellow, but adds hiss.

song and performance here, especially with the built in mic, welcome to MJ, regards M

I was surprised how well this cheap little effect box records. I've never done direct recording like this before, always mic'd my amps. I still can't wait to get a couple decent mics again though:) Thank you for your time and encouragement.

This is great song Mike. As I said, you have got really nice soft vocals and wonderful playing. The guitar sound is very nice.. The whole work here is truly great but I just wish to hear this song with a higher vocal tone in places and a harder mix of the song... Maybe I'm too obsessed with quality but I love listening to such songs with a great quality. But this is really fine work.. Thanks for sharing!

this song is really good... but it needs a better production.. great job
This grooves and creeps along nicely. The guitar work and production in places reminds me a little of the favorite Dylan album ("Oh Mercy").
Well played, produced and sung!
Take care!
