Description:
This is a song I wrote when my daughter was about 7 years old, although it is for a ten year old, I was trying to imagine a few years to the future and what she would be feeling at that age. My daughter is now 29 and married with two children of her own.
I sung this song to her when she married a few years ago, she cried, as did I. Was a very special moment for both of us.
This is my first song submitted to mac jams, with a lot of encouragement from my good friend (and brother-in-law) Len Gold. Without whose help this song would never have come to Macjams. I hope you enjoy.

Lyrics:
The dreams of a young girl, ten years oldare likely to be, stories long told
of princes and castles, old fairy tales
told by her mother, as her eyes start to close,
Chorus
She dreams of love, in her own special way
keeping her secrets, in a diary each day.
Thinking of rabbits, running wild in the sun
puppy dogs playing, chasing tails having fun
Cats catching clockwork mice, then letting them go
All of these things, a young girl will know
Chorus
Horses and ponies, running wild, running free
birds flying high above, crossing the sea
watching a flower grow, takes a long while
be patient my pretty one, kiss me gently and smile
Chorus x2

amazingly fabulous! Very very nicely done! The lyrics are wonderful!
Robert Rayner
for your very kind words, as I said this is my first song on macjams ( all thanks to Len Gold). The lyrics seem a bit corny now, but were from the heart.
I really appreciate you taking the time to listen.
Thanks again
Robert

Now that took a long time. Glad all my coaxing paid off. Really lovely song Bob and very delicately played and sung.
I sincerely hope we don't have to wait 22 years for the next one.
Cheers

If it wasn't for you, this song would still be just in my head. You also introduced me to Apple, Garageband and now MacJams, as well as helping me tweecking the production on this, so I have much to thanks you for. I'm glad you liked the finished result.
Thanks again my good friend

Lovely song - great lyrics, and nice performance. Glad you let Len lead you here! Hope to hear more music from you in the future. Nicely done. Welcome to the neighborhood. Peace.
Robert Rayner
for your encouraging comments, when I listen to your voice, mine sounds so bad.
But hopefully with practise and confidence it will improve.
Thanks again for your kind words.
Robert
Hi Dad,
A little confusing as someone else has already called you 'Dad' in the posts. Are you trying to tell me something!!!?? Was lovely hearing the song on here, made me think about years ago when I first heard it and when you sung it to me on my wedding day. Well done!

Robert Rayner
Obviously you have heard this song many times over many years, but hopefully this sounds better than before?
Unfortunately, I dont have yours and Darrens teriffic voices or musical skills. If you ever get the time, record one of the lovely duets you used to perform and post it here, everyone would love it.
Love, Dad xx
PS Becca is Jamilias daughter and like you, she has a great voice
How very lucky for your daughter
my father spoke to me very rarely never mind imagining what was in my mind. thats past now / But you my freind are something else.
The back ground music juast came in at the exact timing I reckonized the tune it was really beautiful the words were wonderful too.
I feel you were holding back a litle bit. Possibly nerves first time
Other than that that
This is a Brilliant Production. your voice is really good too. A lovely Ballad
Thats excatly what my daughter Sarah/ Rachaelxxx /was doing at the age of Ten spot on and writing little limericks
about the boyys she had met on the bus to school.
I still have them all. she is 25 now.
Thank you for sharing this lovely song it brought tears to my eyes too.
Peace Dee .
Robert Rayner
Your comments are just what I need, I am so glad that other people can relate to these words, although they seem dated now as song was written many years ago.
I agree that my vocals are hidden a bit, but thanks to Len, they are more prominent than they were originally! (Could barely hear me at all, according to Len) As you say, first time nerves.
Thank you again for your kind words.
Robert
...is a friend of mine!
Nice first post Robert! Makes me think of my young grand-daughters...
Nice arrangement. Good production. Sung with love and conviction.

This a great track, reminds me of Cat Stevens (the father and son track). Lovely to listen to and it does not surprise me that there was not a dry eye. Lovely.
Robert Rayner
Wow, being compared to Cat Stevens! That is a great compliment.
I think I have a way to go yet, but thank you for you kind words.

...on my birthday...
...and now we've exchanged songs for our children...
...very moving...it's childlike simplicity...choked me up.
Robert Rayner
I was glad you liked my song, consider it a birthday present.
Children give us so much inspiration, dont they?
Thanks again for your kind comments

what a lovely tribute song to your daughter. Your voices reminds me a bit of Peter Noone, which is a compliment. :-) Welcome to MacJams. :-)
Robert Rayner
Peter Noone....That is a compliment. I remember Hermans Hermits with some good memories.
Yes, they do grow up fast, to fast.
Thank you for your kind comments.

...pretty song, melody, etc. The accompaniment is PERFECT: less is more!!! You wonderfully keep the vocal way out front where it belongs. Your musical sense is so very sound with this arrangement and recording. Bravo!
(small suggestion: check vocal pitch. You have such a mellow voice, but you slide just a touch under pitch now and then. ... Hope you don't mind the small crit. It's one of the valuable things about MJ so that we can all improve on what we do. ... I sure hope you start posting other things. I have marked you as a favorite and am looking forward to hearing more of your work. Welcome.)
Peace.

I totaly agree with your comments, my voice is not the may west, and as you say people can give and receive advice here which is great. Originaly my voice was in the background hidden under lots of reverb, until my good friend Len tweaked it and brought the voice to the front. (without the reverb)
I really appreciate you taking the time to listen and give your valuable advise.
Thanks again Paul

from one dad to another, what a great gift to your daughter... and I see that music runs in the family, it even marries in! :-) Very pretty melody, love the minor main part, then major chorus, words create warm smiles and fit the melody line nicely. Yes, there could be... no... there SHOULD be a better recording of this. I think it would be great to take Becca up on this and have her sing that nice harmony part, and tweak the volume/panning etc on the instruments, this is well-worth re-recording, it is a gem!
Wow, I better start thinking up a sweet song for my daughter too!
ttfn,
Drakonis
Robert Rayner
For your very kind words, and yes, I am hoping to get Becky to sing the main song (maybe me in the background) and maybe change the style slightly.
As there are no guitars on this track, I think it would sound nice with fingerstyle accoustic and maybe electric too, we'll see.
Really appreciate your comments, thanks again

So well played and I'm glad Len Gold persuaded you to post this here!
I really enjoyed this and I look forward to more!

How can the lyrics be corny when they have that effect?
Sorry I missed this originally.

such a great little song, its very well written. I'm surprised by the production you pulled together with such minimal equipment. I actually wrote something for my niece with a similar slant. I am now inspired to get it recorded and posted now. Thanks for sharing this lovely song Robert. Hope to hear more from you soon.

When I hear the England type voice it really captures the Peter and Gordon and Chad and Jeremy feel. I like how this tune brings me back to their hey day. I also love the sparkling synth and how it shimmers with chordal delights.
Thanks for sharing !

I can imagine the reaction she had when you played this for her when she married. Great lyrics and a fine delivery my friend, of a beautiful gift for your girl.
