Keywords:
Brazil (3)Chill (68)Rhodes Piano (1)Jazz (366)
Description:
I took a break for about a month and a half from Garageband. Here's a new one. I stole part of the bossa riff from a friend. He didn't know who he stole if from though, so If you recognize the first part of the song, let me know, 'cus I'd like to hear the original.

I also figured out how to hook my rhodes piano up to my Digitech pedal and record to the computer without miking it. I tested it out on the first section of this song. It sounds good enough for now.

As always, critiques are welcome, I want to improve....

As for the chillin' lessons: They go like this....

1 lime
2 ounces of cachaça (or vodka or light rum)
Sugar to taste
Ice cubes (crushed)
1 highball glass

enjoy....

Hardware:
Homemade Bass, Homemade Guitar, Digitech RP350, 1978 Fender Rhodes 73 (Mark 1) piano

Software:
GB '08

Brian, super icy. The rhodes indeed sounds cool. The tones and your voicings are a rare treat.

I'm gonna have to learn the keyboard better. The rhodes adds just the right amount of coolness to a tune. Glad you liked it

Very nice &mdash 04/27/08 - 06:18:15 PM
Talk about cool! Love the bass on this - what a great sound, and lovely smooth playing. Did you really build it? The guitar is good, too, and the playing is nice. A great chilled track. Nicely done. Peace.

Yep, homemade, not as hard as you think, just time consuming. Thanks for checking it out.

Kamikaze... &mdash 04/28/08 - 02:24:31 PM
I (barely) remember being introduced to kamikazes (about 5 of them one evening) a couple decades ago (vodka, lime juice, sugar), and never wanting to feel that way again :-) But with this music, I can hold a virtual glass, put my sandy feet up on the lounge chair in the sand on a warm sunset evening on the beach, and completely relax with this music going on. Very nice playing, and I enjoy the Bossa rhythm and soft percussion you chose. Tasty! Balance on all the instruments is quite good, I have no real critiques.

Drakonis

Kamikaze...yes &mdash 04/28/08 - 02:53:11 PM
unless you are in brazil and use the cachaça then it's called a Caipirinha.....

thanks for the kind comment.

Really beautifully played, and the bass sounds GREAT! I'm no producer, so I can't offer any real advice there; but this song is a great example of why anyone would want to improve his production: there's a lot of magic here. I'd like to hear the piano a little more......

This was my first attempt at recording my piano. I don't really play, but I'm learning by the song. Thanks for checkin it out.

Relaxing! &mdash 04/29/08 - 12:30:51 AM
This was the perfect song to listen to after work. Very mellow and relaxing. I had problems hearing the piano and I think you should bring out the triangle more. After listening again I think the piano and guitar are competing for the same frequencies so maybe try and EQ them a bit differently. When I did hear the piano it was great. The guitar phrasings are tasty and just right. This song transports me back to when my wife and I honeymooned in the Bahamas! Great job Brian!

Thanks... &mdash 04/29/08 - 10:36:09 AM
for listening. and the critiques. I decided to take any tips for this song and implement them and repost as an exercise in production techniques, etc. So someday I can be like Rick Reuben. More Rhodes, you got it, more triangle, maybe not, eq the gutar and piano differently, I'll try and fiture it out. :P

Drummer &mdash 04/29/08 - 10:56:04 AM
I'm a drummer at heart so I like to hear percussion and drums. I might be a bit biased in that department!
