Keywords:
house of blues (3)feter (19)mosque (1)mezzuin (1)audacity (8)slow (87)tweak (1)
Description:
My entry in Feter's House of Blues Challenge. The music bed is one verse of Feter's bed slowed down 200% and modified in Audacity. After it was brought into Garageband I added a Mezzuin's call to prayer that was similarly treated in Audacity. Thanks to the freesound project for the sample: http://freesound.iua.upf.edu/samplesViewSingle.php?id=33937

Thanks to Feter for launching this project - I look forward to hearing more submissions - it's already been great.

iBook G3

Audacity, GB1

Thanks for sound inspiration Feter &mdash 04/27/08 - 09:48:55 PM
your track is incredibly good and I'll come back with a more standard respectful collaboration. This was just an exercise while I had no instruments and my old iBook.

The creativity... &mdash 04/27/08 - 08:57:07 PM
...I am hearing in these various pieces is pretty remarkable. I was immediately drawn into yours, Bud, from the fire crack at measure 1 and the ensuing arid landscape you created. I don't even know how to imagine this sort of sound much less create it. It's really an awesome vision you project with this kind of sound bed...oh, oh...and then it just...stops. Can't there be more?
Peace.
Paul

You're always so supportive Paul - thanks - &mdash 04/27/08 - 09:54:14 PM
That firecrack was some glitch I kept. Glad you could get into this. I kept it short by design - just one verse of Feter's track at the speed that sounded right.

Wow &mdash 04/27/08 - 09:29:10 PM
This is amazing. You have such great musical vision. How many people would have thought of doing this? I think the answer is...one! Love the effect of the slowed down call and the guitar track is just something else - otherwordly and mesmerizing. Very cool. Peace.

... and typically inventive. How do you find to work, write this fantastic music, and be consistently creative?????

Can you buy it over the counter???

I don't know that my wife and kids are so happy about my time management. But basically I'm more than a bit compulsive I guess and like to work fast - so it's not as bad as it seems. When the obsessive side takes over - then there's trouble.

Thanks Dick - &mdash 04/28/08 - 09:12:36 AM
I just grabbed a recipe from the Audacity cookbook and added some prime ingredients. Feter's guitar sounds great no matter what you do to it.

This is great Mr. Kevin, you took it really into another direction which sounds gorgeous to my ears. I haven't heard this type of music before but for me it sounds a little Pshyco intro or something like that! Excellent work!

Take Care

Thanks Maurice - &mdash 04/28/08 - 02:20:23 PM
given a straightforward challenge I seem driven to pervert it in some way. In my band - when we jam we have a rule that no matter what we can't fall into a twelve bar blues. I'm sure I'll come back to the house again though - Feter's bed is just too good to leave deranged like this.

piece of work as usual, good one. I think the call to prayer suits the piece.. Where is the image from is it one of yours?

The image is not mine - &mdash 04/28/08 - 02:23:30 PM
it's off google. Guess credit is due. I love the Mezzuin's call - glad it fit into this and that you agree. Thanks for the listen and comment.

You're a creative bugger aren't you Bud? Is this the official B-side to "Phenomenon"? LOL!

Nicely done.

Be well!

feel like an old fuddy-duddy. You are always doing the coolest-far-out-ist experimental things. You are one of the art gods of MacJams! My hat goes off to you. If anyone reading this hasn't delved very deep into the bud-ness' catalog, then shame on you and get to it! This is an amazing soundscape.

Very Creative &mdash 04/30/08 - 02:24:35 PM
this is smart stuff Bud... weird how an audio track can just up & take you some place... I had a sunburn on the back of my neck by the time it was finished

How....... I mean, how... &mdash 05/01/08 - 09:48:45 AM
...do you do this? How can you hear and create something so far removed from the source that actually IS the source? Arresting and deeply moving - where the emotion comes from is testament to your ability to draw blood from the machine. Wow.

There's a Buddhist saying - &mdash 05/01/08 - 03:12:59 PM

"Start where you are". In this instance I started with a beautiful emotional blues recording and then experimented with what I learned from Phenomeneon. All you hear is one verse slowed down and then reversed. The two tracks - forward and reverse are then lined up and played together with a little filtering. The Mezzuin call was slowed down an equal amount and laid in with just a little filtering also (again just one section of a much longer piece). I didn't do much - I just followed the lead of the music.

Life in slo-mo &mdash 05/04/08 - 08:14:30 AM
I love this kind of stretched out sounds. They immediately become unreal, part of an alternate reality. You could have let this go on for an hour and I would have listened to all of it.
