Description:
I came up to Tacoma for work, and I am basically killing time before I start. I have my work computer which is a PC with me, so I am trying out this DAW "Reaper" which is actually pretty cool. Recording on PC is pretty much a nightmare, but that's most likely because I am not familiar with it. If anyone is on a PC ever and wants to play, reaper is shareware (you are encouraged to donate $50 if you use it for more than a month). Here's the link for it:http://www.cockos.com/reaper/download.php

This is another Dark Ambient piece; didn't list it as ambient cuz I don't wanna bum out anyones yoga buzz.

Hardware:
HP Pavillion laptop

Software:
Reaper DAW, Crystal softsynth, various samples found on my computer

Everything you touch turns to gold! Love it...

Guys like you should have a MacJams issued MacBookPro pre-loaded with GB and Logic Express and a ton of ram. Packed in the case should be a USB mic.

Anyway thanks for killing time!

Very cool. Goosebumps.
I love the introduction of the ticking sounds and the wooden chimey things. Surreal.

don't fear the reaper &mdash 04/30/08 - 10:45:07 PM
... it felt good to say that.

actually this is what my mind needed at this moment. Been spending the past hour banging out heavy guitar riffs. I found this was a nice way to bring my spiking brain waves down. Ahh, I feel better now.

Unique palette of sounds &mdash 05/01/08 - 01:10:27 AM
and you have an orchestral consciousness in your voices. This is my kind of yoga mate!

I have never been able to get that VCS3 plugin to work you know

This is a brilliant track!!!!

I listened to it at work first thing this morning and was blown away. It's another one of my favourites.

Reaper is a beast. I have a registered copy that I use solely (at the moment) for finishing the work on my mixes. It allows me to manipulate effects easily, so I use it daily. There are some good videos available via the forum, if you want to delve deeper into using it and the manual is excellent, though long.

Take care.

Paul

I like the glitchy tics that come in the middle of the song. The subtle percussion play after that is quietly interesting too, but the first half of the song strikes me as a little stagnant. Maybe I had it too quiet though. Another listen, perhaps?

Awesome &mdash 05/01/08 - 10:02:16 PM
Love the sounds, and the ambience of the piece is perfect. Makes me think of Peter Gabriel's Birdy soundtrack - dark and threatening, in a cool way. Great tapping, skittering noises in the middle there. Nice one. I see what Feter is talking about, too, by the way. I must have that Floydian gene too...Downloaded and added to my ambient playlist. Nicely done, my friend. Peace.

D'ambient &mdash 05/03/08 - 05:17:05 AM
Maybe we need a new genre for this. Reminds me of something from the first Alien move. Ridley would be proud.

Good job

spooky &mdash 05/03/08 - 07:58:29 AM
Could easily have fitted as a soundtrack in Lord of the Rings.

Actually, I though Tacoma was a nice place as I once dated a girl from there... She didn't give me any feelings like this BTW;)

Cool piece. And if you did it on a PC I guess extra points should be given;)

Interesting &mdash 05/05/08 - 04:50:48 PM
Reaper sounds like an interesting piece of kit Michael - this is certainly eerie - great soundtrack material for a doco on outer space.

Is WA that bleak? &mdash 05/06/08 - 08:47:08 AM
Nice job writing this, but the place doesn't sound terribly exciting. You make me want to weep. Jump off the bridge over the narrows.

it is an orange dream &mdash 05/07/08 - 05:58:18 PM
it sounds like a place I live. it is always grey. there is some warmth inside. but there is never warmth outside. there is comfort in this dark music. it is a reminder of home. thank you. 0x0

Bummer Yoga Buzz &mdash 05/15/08 - 09:33:06 AM
that's some of my favorite music. Nice breathing atmospheres - subtle and effective - I like the addition of the bamboo sounds towards the end. I'll have to check out Reaper - I use a PC at work.

I'm salivating as I listen and type. &mdash 05/22/08 - 10:41:23 PM
This is extraordinary although it feels more ambient than experimental. I love this one!!!
