Description:
When Einarus posted his track "Musica's Box," I immediately heard a haunting, children's song sort of vibe to it.
Music boxes have always fascinated me--sounding both delicately gentle and somehow sad.
In this vein, I've set some ghostly, gothic lyrics to Ein's track. Thank you, Einarus, for letting me add to this!! :)

Lyrics:
I'll build a beautiful wallTo keep you out
I'll build a beautiful wall
Around this tattered heart
I'll build a beautiful wall
To keep me in
I'll build a beautiful wall
And you will see...
A wall of roses with prickly thorns
A moat of molten glass surrounding
Curtains of briars
And shards of dreams
I'll build a beautiful wall....

Very beautiful indeed, and haunting, like a Grimm's bros. fairy tale. I'm impressed, as always!
Mystified
...which was exactly the mood I was going for here. (The picture was sort of a giveaway...)
Thank you for the kind words :)
magnatone

An interesting combo!
Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment, Roxylee :)
I am beginning to love you sooo much and your lovely voice is so captivating you are a really lovely beautiful spirit and I can hear this in your words and in you singing. Mystified.
You sing so beutifuly and I feel soo good after listening to your lovely singing. I would also like to thank you cat for your very nice kind words to me on chat when at times I have been feeling so low and you say such nice kind words to me too.
You may think its gone in one ear and out the other but i have took note

I appreciate your thoughts here. (Say kind words to yourself often, too! ;)
Thanks again to Einarus, for the beautiful track I built the vocals upon.

(Ha, got your attention!) Cat, your singing and lyric additions to this are beautiful, as always. However, it did feel like the lyrics were packed a little too tightly... you started singing almost right away, with no musical intro... I would have preferred an intro 4 bars of musical theme before you start, then I wanted this stretched out, with a breather between each of your lines, so they would sink in and breathe, and allow you time to do more of your ethereal background vox in between the lines... but of course, this critique simply means that I adore what you and Einar came up with, and I just wanted it stretched out to go longer. My only lyrical suggestion is the word "prickly" seemed almost trite to me, I would have preferred a more ambiguous/meaningful word, not sure what though, maybe "dang'rous" or "poisonous" or instead of "prickly thorns", "thorns and wires" (rhymes with briars, and infers separation-via-technology).
Anyway, you always get my creative thoughts flying, excellent work!
ttfn,
Drakonis

I'm going to reply to your comments first, Drak, because you actually brought up some things I considered when approaching this song.
As for the length, I tried it in various ways, delaying starting to sing, etc. Quite simply, as a vocal piece, it does need to be longer. But as I told Einarus, I didn't want to do the additions myself.
So it stands as a vocal 'vignette'--a piece of a piece, as it were.
As for the phrase 'prickly throrns,' I did try 'poison/poisonous/tainted' this, that and the other, but eventually went for the onomatopoeic 'prickly' and the organic 'thorns' as I wanted that simple--perhaps even simplistic--visual associated with it.
I'm glad you enjoyed this, and took time to leave a comment.
Thank you!

it's impossible for you to do something not wonderful.

and sweet. I like the smoothness and fluidity in your voice alongside the harsh (but pleasant)brittle tinkling of the music... it adds a vulnerable feel to it....like someone hurt having a mental conversation about..... someone who's hurt them. Enjoyed, regards M

I did purposely try to create a fragility to the voice; I'm glad you heard that.

This is to me, quite simply, perfect.
The music and the words fit together as a hand in a glove. I don't 'hear' anything else.
There are few pieces on here that I would give, if I voted, straight 10's, but this would be one of them.
Two magical artistes doing something wonderfully well.
Take care.

There is something liberating in doing a song that has its own 'say.' Sure, it broke a few rules (it's really short, there's no real intro...) But in a way it makes it all the more unusual, and that's fine by me.

I do enjoy singing in this style as well. It seems the most 'natural' for me.
Thanks for stopping by for a listen, and for leaving your thoughts.

really haunting. I agree with your comment about music boxes. I don't have a problem with the lyrics (perhaps I would have preferred a longer intro) but the overall song is just great as it is...

Mystified
...just what is it about them..?
Thank you, Peter, for letting me know that you enjoyed this song. :)

don't know that I'd heard you before, but I think I would have remembered! You have a beautiful voice!
I wandered over here from einarus's original piece. I almost didn't want to hear it b/c I thought his piece was so perfect on its own, but you really did it justice and what a charming voice you have! I'm glad I listened.

This so forlorn, scary, haunting and just plain neat-o!
Great track and very cool vocals!
...and again, just the right length.... I'm left wanting more, but I shall have none.... I guess I could just listen to it again, eh...?
sloparts
that wrap you in a cocoon of love overpowering fear. This is almost magical Cat the way you weave those lyrics around and you voice is as clear as crystal. Lovely singing, great lyrics, and a simple musical path played out on the toy piano. Fantastic.
Thank you for sharing this

Has a hauntingly beautiful vocal line ( Awesome voice by the way ). Great bed, song has an interesting vibe to it. The singing and keys are so "pleasant" sounding, yet the note choices created a feeling unease and a palpable sense of foreboding . I thought it was very well done and very clever, to convey such vivid musical imagery is real talent unto itself.
kassia
Very haunting. I LOVE the lyrics - the contradiction between the beautiful/tattered and beautiful/prickly/shards. Wonderful word choice. I think your lyrics fit the sounds perfectly - the childlike innocence and beauty of the music box compared to the more menacing realities of life and the world out there! As always your vocals are beautiful. My ear was waiting to hear a little reverb/echo in there - kind of as if you were singing within and behind that beautiful wall. Does that make sense? lol Great addition to Einarus' music. Thanks!

have been waiting for this since chat conversation a few nites ago .. so worth the wait... and it is a beauty
that80sboy
very pretty voice and light on the ears...i like it!
haunting vocals fit beautifully, a creative concept which reminds me of tim burton's collaborator/composer danny elfman. i also enjoy lullaby songs and have written one or two on my acoustic but hard to beat the atmosphere you've created here. i want more lyrics and more of everthing really but anything good always leaves you wanting more, and its true to the spirit of a music box that way, kudos to you (or you two) for realizing that and not overdoing it. but i would still encourage an alternate just to give us more to love.
jiguma
I love the music box sounds Einar - ironically they always give me dark vibes rather than happy ones. Beautiful singing Cat.
I agree with Eduard on the way the vocals start straight up before the mood is set by the music, but a minor nit.
It seemed to me (and no-one else has mentioned it, so feel free to ignore me) that the mix was a little hot - the vocals especially seemed to lack the clarity that would have worked so well here. With the delicate music box sounds, a delicate sparse arrangement might have sounded good.
Again, a minor nit though - a lovely interpretation.

That was incredible. 10's across the board!

This is a great title, and a similarly great track - really haunting. Your voice is fabulous on this - icy and sensual.

Deep vocals over an awesome soundbed. This is amazing piece Ms. Cat. WOW... Thanks for sharing!

Perfectly written vocal line, and the simple and very nice background play and the atmosphere has made a very well produced song from it.
My only suggestion is about the other line which you used it near ending, it was somehow a litlle scary or mystic for this peaceful song.
Very well, Thanks.

Magic voice, an enchanting track, I'm magnetized - awesome work :-) :-) :-)

...the innocent glockenspeil is the perfect choice with your lovely voice singing such guarded sadness...

Perfect vocals to fit the mood of the track. Love the light harmonies in the background too.
