Description
Well...I'm officially a MacJammer now. I've been through the initiation and here's the result.

As you all know, drakonis wrote a gorgeous ambient piece called Ember: Rekindled. You can listen to it here: http://www.macjams.com/song/13185

Many, many a'macjammer has taken this piece and added pieces of themselves to it - and the resulting music has been amazing.

My result pretty new-agey. I kept it very mellow because I really liked the original texture and sound. The piano parts are first-take improv, the guitar and drums are loops that I played with a little, and the english horn mimics drak's original flute part.

Thank you to drak for not only providing the beautiful base for this piece, but for all the friendliness, advice and encouragement he has given generously since I joined MacJams.

Enjoy.

gorgeous treatment...
This really heads Ember off in a new (age) direction, and very sweetly handled! You passed the test, and managed to avoid your KSA (Kitchen Sink Affliction) wonderfully here... it is delicately sparse, but you have added new harmonies that tug at the sound bed in gently new sparkly ways. I think the english horn is a brilliant touch. And your piano improvs are great. Elegant. Excellent mixing too, all is crystal clear as a sunrise. Instant download to add to my KassiaKollection.

Thanks for giving me something solid to start with. Your original mixing of Ember:Rekindled was perfect. The first thing I did when you sent me the GB file was to lock all your tracks and I did not touch them again. I can't really say more than what I did in the song notes. Thanks for everything - I'm glad you like this!

So well done...
Shay, I think what you've added here really makes the sound bed come to life. The arrangement decisions you made show a remarkable level of sophistication. When you have the tools on hand that can easily overwhelm and actually cover up musical ideas, rather than enhance them, it takes skill, patience, and taste to make sure that doesn't happen. It didn't here.

Your piano work is lovely, which is what we have come to expect from you very quickly - your other pieces display your sensitivity as a pianist very nicely. The rest of the arrangement and your playing work wonderfully well. This is great work, Shay. You have much to be proud of. Congratulations.

OH GOODY ....
... an EMBER ... I like the slightly faster tempo of this Ember ... like water flowing over a ledge in a waterfall ..... very nice additions to Draks magnificent piece .... you know you aren't a true macjammer until you have tackled an Ember ! Nice Job Shay !
Muse Ritual said 552 days ago (May 21st, 2008)
Oh so sweet.
This has so much taste, so much understated flair that your talent while obvious does not overshadow the piece. Futz said everything Id love to say about this, a tour de force of an Ember collab.

I listened to the Didge Ache (not meant as a pimp ;) ) version of Ember back to back with this and the shading of contrasts.... It feels so much like two parts of a movie to me, your Ember being the resolution part.

Color me soothingly amazed.

Ember
What a perfect name for this. This is movie track stuff for sure ladies. Professional to my ears. The mood is very cool. I see light and almost an autumn like feel to it. Light breeze blowing. Especially the first part. It's tiring out abit now. But still peaceful and contemplative. Now its building up. Better better. A great piece of artwork!....jgv

Very nice
additions to the Ember variations. The piano gives a much more naturalistic feeling to the whole thing...it really grounds it in an acoustic foundation.

Hey,
I'm truly at an awe here. Incredible new take on Ember. I didn't think it was possible any more. But you did it, and did it WELL!

That, and what they all said above (can't imagine how I could have missed you (and a new Ember!) for so long). Gotta go check out your other stuff soon. Thanks a bunch to you and the Dragon who started it all!

Beautiful and moving
This is beautiful Shay. I'm so glad I came over here so I can hear more of your music. I really like your collaborations which makes me think that you would do well performing with a group. I know you like to keep it at home and just show family and friends but if I could encourage you to try performing with some other musicians. The best players are the ones who listen carefully to the other musicians and hears their contribution within the context of the whole band. You are already doing that with this piece in a masterful way.

Shay your music is beautiful and it's not fair to keep this to a select few. This world has too much noise and busyness to it. This world needs to be affected by beauty. I hope I'm not being to pushy it's just that I hear so much junk played publicly that is void of heart. Too many artists that compose or play a certain way to fit in rather than to express. Music such as yours needs to be heard and not by just other musicians.

Now that I have collabed on the song, I can go about listening to other renditions - I really like this one - you kept it very much intact,,, whereas I nearly destroyed it : )
love it, Shay - nice work and very sensitive to the spine of the song

one of the best
collaborations of this song still out there. I think I would like to add my hat to the ring, possibly with your piano playing. Do you still have your track either w/ or w/o the original?

Thanks!
