Description:
okay, this is my late entry to the CGBG challenge. I've been out of town for work all week with only minimal internet access, but i promise i will get to everyones entry.
this song was written in the style of the new york dolls and the heartbreakers. the subject matter is suitably "born to lose." the picture is me back in the day (thought i was johnny thunders). if i was to name the band that recorded with this, we would be called the Mystery Girls. see if you can find the lines i stole from the dolls.
Lyrics:
when i say i'm in love
you best believe i'm in love L-U-V
twelve o'clock
on the subway train
i didn't pay the fare
so i could make it to your house on time
i had a sniff of glue
i drank a bottle of wine
i took a handful of something
cuz we always get into a fight
(chorus)
somethings going on
i don't know what it is
she keeps saying
it's all inside my head
everytime i see her
she's always with him
one more time and it's over
it's over
you lie to my face
i don't know what to do
you keep flapping your lips
i'm gonna shut you out
you got another man
you got a lotta nerve
i got my chinese rocks
ain't nothing gonna get me down
(chorus)
you got one more time to try and get it right
i got one more shot just to make it through the night
a spoonful of courage
a handful of reds
one more time and it's over
it's over
(solo)
it's over....
hoo oo oo hoo oo........

dang I think you really nailed the Dolls sound here, a tragic story of the downside of rock in the lyrics.
bet you're glad to be back home. rock on! [ Reply to This ]

Oh Man &mdash 05/04/08 - 05:00:36 AM
The intro just grabbed me. Never was into the NY Dolls, but I actually like this better. A little twist of the Stones. That might be the ingredient that makes this taste just right.
I'm jealous.......(that's the highest compliment)

Nice picture, Michael. Does that hair come off your head at the end of the night?
Whatever your hair does, you sure do play like a Stooge, and I like it.

Love those guitars &mdash 05/04/08 - 08:28:03 PM
... I remember when rock used to sound like this. I think I'm remembering, anyway... remembering... it sounded like beer. A lot of beer. And woozy guitar leads that slammed around bent strings and wonkied their way around the tune, heh heh...
What the hell am I remembering here? [ Reply to This ]

Glad you posted one of your old photos to go along with the song. What a perfect fir, so many years later. You nailed this to a T.
Excellent guitars, vocals and a great lyric tells the tale of 1978 without exaggeration.

Nice chugging feel with good words and a tidy vocal - sounds like it could have been recorded live.
