Description:
recorded immediately after the CBGB demo song. I thought I'd go in the complete opposite direction and do a folk waltz.
Lyrics:
seven o'clock in the morning
sleepyhead, open your eyes
the sun won't erase - the lines on my face
it covers a clever disguise
the wind blows the grass in the garden
the daffodils dance in the light
if the wind has it's way and I'm held in it's sway
I'll hold on with all of my might
I fear I'm falling - and the weight of it's drawing me down
I hear it calling
it whispers my name in the morning
it hums in my head through the day
singing it's song - holding me strong
the fighting is fading away
it's holding my hand in the evening
it's haunting my head through the night
the earth's gonna shake - the bough's gonna break
as everything falls in it's flight
and I - I am falling - and the weight of it's drawing me down
and I - I hear it calling - and it's filling my head with the sound....
I'm falling down
washing my face in the water
wading the waves for a while
but what can I do when your eyes are so blue
I might as well sink with a smile
and I - I think I'm falling - as the weight of it's drawing me down
and I - I hear it calling - as it's filling my head with the sound
and I - I am crawling - I'm skinning my knees on the ground
and I - I am falling
all the way down.......

This is just fantastic Brian &mdash 05/04/08 - 07:21:27 PM
What a wonderful lyric line you have here and the singing is top drawer all the way my friend.
I'm in awe listening to this beautiful song you've shared with us. The production is flawless and the musical back drop for it is oh so fitting and although complex to put together, sounds wonderfully simple and perfect for the songs feeling and flow.
I love the quiet part you did on the final verse, it's almost like listening in on a prayer to the one you love. Like someone saying in their mind, "Alright, I get it, I give up, I'm in love with you"
An exquisite piece of music Brian of which you should be justifiably proud my friend. Kudos and Bravo to you Brian D.

I am floored. This sounds entirely professional. From the orchestration to the vocals to the mix. Love the harmonica, the mandolin (?), beautiful lyrics. Really great. Not I'm off to listen to your CBGB tune....can't wait.

thanks &mdash 05/04/08 - 08:36:06 PM
yes, its mandolin. it's a cheapie epiphone, but it plays great. I'm still figuring chords out on it - I haven't had it long.
thanks for the nice comments. I'm glad you like it! [ Reply to This ]
Excellent Piece &mdash 05/04/08 - 08:57:00 PM
Full of wonderful musical nuances and subtleties.
So maybe... you're NOT The Knack with a megaphone. ;)
Really a terrific song and production.

Top song &mdash 05/05/08 - 06:46:05 PM
When I saw "ballad" as genre I almost moved on - glad I didn't. I'm especially interested in the mandolin. I've been thinking of getting one for a long time, and with some lengthy travelling happening for me next year, now might be the time to have a more portable instrument. It sounds great.
I digress .. lovely song, very well mixed, played and sung. If I was mixing this I'd have moved your terrific vocal more to the front to give it the focus that it and the lyrics deserve - but that's just me.
Very impressed Brian!

This Tune &mdash 05/06/08 - 01:34:26 AM
is brilliant in so many ways. Lyrics , form, musician ship, arraignment. You really show what is possible with garageband. Even though the tune is spotlessly produced, the passion and the self expression is not lost and that is what I like the best. [ Reply to This ]

What a great turnaround after Wake Me Up &mdash 05/14/08 - 08:06:51 AM
You're one amazing musician. I've got some back catalog digging to do it's clear. Your voice is excellent on this tune and the playing/arranging is top notch. I got a little Red House Painters vibe at first. Very good lyrics too - I can never seem to achieve that kind of impressionism. [ Reply to This ]
