Keywords:
we wore tons of make up (1)took too many substances and imploded as all good bands eventually do (1)
Description:
This is actually off a demo tape that we sent to CBGBs in maybe 1981. I was about 16 and the song was recorded live from the soundboard at the On Broadway in San Francisco. The band was called Sybil (and frighteningly, the record we did was just re-issued). Rhythm gtr: Fag (because everyone always called him that on the street he was AKA as Cookie Chunks. A little known fact was that he used to hang out with MJs own Buckhorn), Lead gtr: willie orwonee, Bass: Syd Tibble, Drums:Pat Pend, Vocals: Roxy Cougar Mellencamp

it's about the TV character Underdog, and it's really fast. I used Audacity to get this off the cassette I found it on. Upstrokes were forbidden in this band, only downstrokes allowed. if you couldn't handle it, you weren't welcome.

Lyrics:
(verse)
i wanna tell you all about my favorite TV guy
i bough myself a VCR so i can watch him everynight
i'm taping every single show
don't wanna miss a single one
i'm taping every single show
don't wanna miss a single one

(chorus)
U-N-D-E-R-D-O- G
I love you underdog
U-N-D-E-R-D-O- G
I love you underdog

Hardware:
hiwatt amps, hamer guitars, les paul gold top,CB7 drums, fender jazz bass (all played by the guys in my teen aged band Sybil)

Software:
audacity

this is 1981? You guys were ahead of your time. This sounds like the Descendents or All like 5 years later.

It's pretty amazing how your vocals have changed over years.
It's cool you have been able to keep a copy after all the years.

Make sure you get your royalties from the re-issue or I can send that moose.

Great &mdash 05/06/08 - 03:47:37 AM
track from the archives - shame about the drop out - I rather miss all those extraneous analogue noises and cassette wobbles though!

Thanks for digging this one out - I enjoyed it

ya gotta love em'!

The playing was extremely tight and songwriting ahead of it's time.

Impressive mix off the soundboard.

What a great find. Thanks for sharing!

BTW, YOU guys should of got the gig!

Wow &mdash 05/06/08 - 02:11:40 PM
Yeah, love that chunky bass and intense guitar but it's the vocals that really stand out. First rate for this genre. It's quite melodic and yet retains that bang-yer-head-against-the-wall intensity. Love the guitar solo section too ... great stuff.

Are you originally..... &mdash 05/07/08 - 03:46:50 AM
from the bay area? If so, me too. I wonder if we may have crossed paths in the in late 80's-early 90's in SF or in the bay area.

Remembering the days because of this tune. COOL.

Cool brother..... 81 maybe? That's pretty clean not to mention tight! The production is top notch for the time period and all! Thanks for the nostalgic treat....... Great listen, I dug it much.

I was working on a new song with Splinter &mdash 05/08/08 - 04:32:23 PM
a fast punker - and we just weren't making the speed. I was playing all down strokes and the bass player said - at our age I think we need to throw in up strokes. lol. Fun tune here - great timing with the new ads for Speedracer.

I love hearing the old stuff. It's interesting to hear where everyone started. I think I might post a few archives soon as well.

Thanks for posting.

I wa a "punk" once .... &mdash 05/10/08 - 01:09:54 AM
... I won't say which year ... let's just suffice it to say that one of my British Pals took a trip back home and brought me back a pair of spandex pants WAY before they made them in this country .... and coupled with a pair of black and white (Fleetmaster) - I think they are called "converse" now .... runners .... purple spiky hair ... I was the ODDBALL of the BAR let me tell you ... but it wasn't long before everyone else was copying us girls ! and we bopped to stuff like this and dumped beer on each other's heads ... OH man how long ago was THAT !!! You just took me back to my youth ! Thank you !

If Tommy James of Tommy James and The Shondells sang punk, this is what he would have sounded like!
