Description:
I had a few song ideas that I created especially because of the infamous CBGB DEMO. I was trying to make a reference to the Ramones with the intro and outro and then trying to put something different in between and i just abandoned the whole thing Tuesday night. Tonight I opened the file, picked up the black and scratchy and plugged in the RAT. I lucked out and found a riff or two that I really thought sounded pretty cool with the bass line, so i just stuck with it. I used the Multi Take feature in GB4, and let me tell you what.... If you haven't explored that feature, I will give you my cell phone number so you can call me at 2 AM any day of the work week and I promise I will be glad to tell you about it. Very cool feature.
Next came lyrics. I had a lyrical idea about this hand colored photo that I have of my wife and I tried for an hour to make it work with the cool guitar sound I think I have, but it didn't. I'll keep the lyrics and try em again.
I had another O'Douls Amber and wondered if I made her happy? As happy as she makes me?
I'm no singer, so if anyone would like this song to have their voice on it, I'll be happy to send the GB file.
Thanks,
Bob
Lyrics:
DO I MAKE YOU HAPPY?
LIKE THE WAY YOU DO TO ME?
DO I DRIVE YOU CRAZY?
SHOULD THEY THROW AWAY THE KEY?
I COULD BE GOOD FOR YOU
I COULD BE GOOD FOR YOU
DO YOU HAVE A SECRET?
I LOVE EVERYTHING THAT WE CAN SHARE
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF ME?
I ALWAYS THINK ABOUT YOUR HAIR
I COULD BE GOOD FOR YOU
I COULD BE GOOD FOR YOU
I COULD BE GOOD FOR YOU
I COULD BE GOOD FOR YOU
I WOULD DO MOST ANYTHING
IF YOU WOULD LET ME BE YOUR KING
WILL YOU LAY BESIDE ME?
WILL YOU LET ME LAY BESIDE YOU?
CAN WE LAST FOREVER?
NEVER LET ME DARE DENY YOU!
I COULD BE GOOD FOR YOU
I COULD BE GOOD FOR YOU
I COULD BE GOOD FOR YOU
I COULD BE GOOD FOR YOU

Drum Expert - 5XA &mdash 05/06/08 - 07:23:44 AM
You like my drums? Cool! They are the hardest thing for me to get my extra arms around. I used 1 midi drum beat called Bedrock Drumset 9 and I looped it to infinity so I could play along with the original bass line. Then after the structure was there I go in with the pencil and add a crash or delete a high hat, etc.... In the Instrument Generator part, I used a Drum Kit setting that I've continued to modify and eventually one day perfect the sound. It includes a Chorus, a Bass Amp (to fatten up the bottom), and an AUMatrixReverb setting that was probably a small hall. I'll send you the GB file if you want it!
Thanks Feter! [ Reply to This ]
you make me happy &mdash 05/05/08 - 09:49:17 PM
you drove me crazy becuz my apple green prismacolor pencil has been missing from my pencil drawer for a while now.
Dang Bob, you have been a busy one for this event. You're everywhere. Aren't you suppose to be working or something. No, you must be the delegate type.
Can I have my apple green pencil back now. pleez. i can't color in the grass without it. [ Reply to This ]
Grass Is Always Greener In Florida &mdash 05/06/08 - 07:40:12 AM
Vic, I know for a fact that you don't have grass. You have snow, so yes, I'll send your green Prismacolor back. Sorry I've kept it so long.
I did manage to keep busy with this CBGB Demo thing. It was primarily due to the fact that I was about to meet Bud and Tom and my dear friends Jim and Jake. I was more than excited about it, so I tried to harness my hyperactivity through the black and scratchy one (as you mentioned in another post!).
Thanks for all the guitar tips Vic. [ Reply to This ]
I likes! &mdash 05/05/08 - 11:37:55 PM
Nice rockin' tune.
so that's, like 2 bass parts making the accompaniment?
Kind of an original sound! & one that works very well I'd say.
vocals seemed heartfelt.
I'll have to try that multi take thang. [ Reply to This ]
Dual Bass Rats &mdash 05/06/08 - 07:47:42 AM
I'm continuing to explore the 2 bass parts with RAT. It's mostly because I don't have the dexterity to play those skinny strings on a guitar. I always said that guitars were for bar chords, so my guitars are all tuned to play a bar chord with a single finger squishing a single fret. Top string is an E, next string is a B, next string is an E, next string is a B.... I think the next string is missing, ad the next string is a B also.
Try the multi Take thing and check out the Arrange feature. Without that, this song would've been about 45 long and messy.
There's a Tutorial in the Help menu on both of these amazing features. [ Reply to This ]
Hah! &mdash 05/11/08 - 11:55:42 PM
Great lyrics for the EBEB Challenge Bob:
"This is the E chord!
This is the B chord"

Is the multi-take that thing that allows you to play on three song at the same time ?
I like the pulse of that one, and the way it calms down before it kicks again [ Reply to This ]
Multi Arm Feature &mdash 05/06/08 - 07:58:15 AM
Have you forgotten about the extra arms feature?
Bud told me on my last song (AND WHY?) to put a break in the middle of it somewhere, anywhere. Just to break up the monotony of my typical 2 part song structure. I did that on this song too. I dropped it down to just the bass and the drum part and then tried to make sure reentry was a hot loud and bumpy ride.
Speaking of hot loud bumpy rides - good radiations is the song I want to hear! [ Reply to This ]
The king and Queen! &mdash 05/06/08 - 12:29:50 AM
What a cool picture! And what a cool song! You kept this under your crown - I freakin' love this - great bass and a real nagging groove - you've outdone your self.
I love your vox, but may one day come for that file .... [ Reply to This ]
Kym O'Donnell - Photographer &mdash 05/06/08 - 08:33:42 AM
This photo is one of many by our good friend Kym O'Donnell. We used it as our invitation to our wedding reception. She still works in the dark room and develops her own photos and hand colors them. She an awesome artist.
Any time you want the file, it's yours. I've heard you sing before and I think you might have what it takes to tackle a song of this scale. (wink) [ Reply to This ]

Ask me any time. I love the feel of this and could collaborate if you want. Yellow picks are not right to use on a song like this, though.

If this song didn't come together as quickly as it did, I might've sent it to you. Maybe the next one will just show up in an email. Be careful what you wish for!

I'm never satisfied with my limited vocal abilities, so I thank you for the confidence. If I had your pipes, I'd be famous by now!

Way cool tune Bob! Enough with the "I can't sing" schtick! Your vox is well nigh perfect for this piece.
Great guitar sounds. Awesome mix! This one could be good for me!
Be well!

I Never "I Can't" &mdash 05/06/08 - 01:24:12 PM
I sing because I MUST!! I just don't like my voice for the most part and if there was one wish I could make, it's be to have golden pipes, but It probably comes with a lot of attitude and egomania.
Ha!!
Thanks Mike! You are one of the rockinest rockstars here at MacJams. I appreciate every word you offer.
I'll have to post more of those great hand colored photos. I know I put one on an earlier song and my Katyraven had elf ears and someone commented she looked like a Vulcan! Now that's my kinda girl!

your italian fun club, unanimously voted in favour of your singing, either! I suppose nobody, or very few (like Pavarotti perhaps did, or people like him), really like their own voices, but over here they say: "when everybody keep calling you a donkey, perhaps it's time you check the size of your ears..." LOL
No, hold on, I don't mean you are a donkey... what I mean is... I mean... well... nevermind... [ Reply to This ]

You know nothing says "I love you" like "let me be your king". Ha ha. Seriously though I like your style of love songs. Light on the mushy- heavy on the... I don't know what but it's way cool. By the way your voice is perfect for the punk genre.
I'll take that phone number to call you at 2am about the multi-take thing. I was just thinking about it last night as I'm planning to finally buy a mic so I can get rid of the few remaining listeners I have of my music.
peace

Mushy Man &mdash 05/17/08 - 05:57:39 AM
Thanks for the kind words, Chip. I tend to think I'm a bit over the top when I write love songs. I felt like asking her permission to be the king was a cool lyric. I'm glad you liked it.
The multi take feature is really easier than you think.
