Description:
It’s time for true confessions. Although I have really enjoyed most of the CBGB entries thus far, I was never a fan of punk in it’s heyday. Furthermore, I don’t really like contests. I simply can’t perform under pressure. Just ask my wife!
While working on another complex rocker today, I decided I needed to take a break. Then I got the idea for a CBGB theme. It would consist of the chords C-B-G-B over some punk drum loops. As for the lyrics...well, you’ll see...
Hope you enjoy this little joke of mine.

Joke.......? &mdash 05/06/08 - 03:02:55 PM
C chord.............. B chord............. G chord............. B chord.......... I'm listening, but I don't hear a joke. Great door-kicking guitar, though, reminds me of a tune my old high school band recorded called "Chicken Feeders" with a line about feeding chickens with 'birdie flickin's' and I didn't even know what birdie flickin's were but it sort of rhymed with chickens and it had a punk sound 'cause Jef was really into punk and new wave so he sang it in kind of a Johnny Rotten voice which was weird because the Sex Pistols would hardly sing a song about feeding chickens but then again, why not, they were the Sex Pistols and if they wanted to they would -
Ah! CBGB! Right! Very slick, very slick. Almost didn't get that one... and THEN wouldn't I have looked the goof? [ Reply to This ]

Is that you in the picture Micheal? :)
Well done for having a go at two things you don't like simultaneously. :) You've done a pretty good job of it, I reckon.
Being a Brit I didn't know what CBGB was when the challenge was first announced, and I thought it referred to chords ... so I can relate to this. [ Reply to This ]
HA! &mdash 05/06/08 - 03:18:12 PM
No Rebs, that's not me in the picture. When I was young, I had a head of hair not unlike your own, only it was jet black.
I appreciate your giving this a spin. I had a blast for about 20 minutes recording this. Now it's back to business as usual...

Gosh! &mdash 05/06/08 - 03:14:00 PM
What can I say Mike! We all know you're a bit of a rocker anyway - The difference between Rock and Punk (to me anyway) is attitude - which you have loads of here. I like these chords any way they come (I rarely use B, as I find it really difficult)! I'm with you on the pressure thing (I get too much of that at work) but you've done a grand job on this.

Get "B" behind me! &mdash 05/06/08 - 03:23:40 PM
I know what you mean about the B chord Peter. I almost always play a bar-chord version of it, as in this tune.
Again, punk is not really my thing. But I was feelin' a little left out (boo-hoo, sniff, sniff) of the festivities. I thought I might as well toss in my two cents this time. If anyone gets a laugh outta this it will have been worth the 20 minutes of slaving before my computer screen that it took to make this...Ha ha...

I remember you at that concert Gail! You were that psycho gal in the front row who threw your metal-spiked bra up on stage. I would've thrown it back but I was scared to death! Ha ha...
Glad you had a laugh over this.

Never having been a punker, or a fan of punk in it's heyday, I honestly wasn't sure I could bring anything worthwhile to the table.
When I hit upon the idea to do a punk PARODY, I grabbed my guitar with one hand and my ball-sack with the other, and got to work!
This really was a lot of fun. Perhaps someday I'll try doing a serious punk number. Several months ago I did a heavy grunge tune that did rather well (no longer posted because politically controversial), and I've contemplated doing a metal tune... but don't look for any hip-hop or rap from this old bag O' bones! Ha ha...
Thanks a bunch for listening and commenting Steve!

Hi Rox... &mdash 05/07/08 - 11:32:52 PM
Like Rebsie, when I first heard of the CBGB challenge, I didn't know what the letters stood for, or even what everyone was talking about. Had I known, I would have entered "Caffeine" right from the get go!
Too late now. That train has come and gone.
But hey! It's all good. Now I get to do this goofy parody instead!
BTW: This is partially inspired by your last "Gee, I can't find.." piece. I'm still cracking up over that one sis!

Hi Allen... &mdash 05/07/08 - 11:43:43 PM
I know this is gonna sound like I'm BS-ing you man, but I have no idea---technically speaking---what I'm doing re my mixes! I honestly pretty much just dink around until I like what I hear!
Occasionally I send a early mix to Vic Holman or Mike Dancy for some tips. But mostly I've stumbled ass-backwards into my decent mixes lately.
A recent tip by MacAudion was really helpful. He spoke of "imaging"---by which he meant to have a picture in ones' mind where all the "musicians" are "on stage," and then try to place the instruments in the sound bed accordingly. Elementary really, but effective!
If you were a fly on my wall you'd probably just get eaten by a spider. You deserve better!
Thanks for listening and commenting my friend! Good to hear from you...

Allow me &mdash 05/10/08 - 10:57:28 AM
to be a bit more specific... what kept me laughing was the conviction in your voice as you mapped out the chord structure for us... such passion in the perfomance... that was the brilliance... punks would often sing passionately about, what amounts to nothing, so there was a heavy dose of satire in it for me...
CBGB indeed [ Reply to This ]
What the? &mdash 05/10/08 - 11:26:21 AM
