Description:
Just wrote & recorded this today. A little darker than our usual stuff. It was fun to hit a high B-flat in the bridge. Still an early version w/maybe some tweaks still needed.
Lyrics:
I tried so hard today
I still can't get it right
I need You God
I stumble through the night
Blinded by the dark
Shine on me, God
CHORUS
I'm bound and broken still
A victim of my will
Trying to find my place
I'm broken and astray
Living day-to-day
Praying for Your grace
A slave to my flesh
Looking for escape
Release me, God
I'd love to hide away
And rest within Your arms
Come heal me, God
CHORUS
I'm bound and broken still
A victim of my will
Trying to find my place
I'm broken and astray
Living day-to-day
Praying for Your grace
BRIDGE
My trials will tear me down
When I bury them inside
These solitary battles that I face
You wait for me to call
To lift me when I fall
And help me put the pieces back in place
CHORUS
I'm bound and broken still
A victim of my will
Trying to find my place
I'm broken and astray
Living day-to-day
Praying for Your grace (x2, fade)

Sounds great. Your voice was crystal clear on that B-flat. Nice job.
Thanks

sound, and good sound overall. The vocal sounds good - clear and expressive. The drums sound good, and the guitars in the background have a good, distorted sound, but I'd bring them forward in the mix a touch. Nicely done. Peace. [ Reply to This ]

I really appreciate the comments. I think I enjoyed singing this more than anything else recently. It was fun to play more restrained bass lines, since I tend to get carried away.
Thanks for mentioning the distorted guitar levels. I did go back and boost them. And, during the bridge, I decided to pan all acoustics right and leave the electric panned left. Seems to clean up the mix a little.
Thanks for giving it a listen! [ Reply to This ]

Hmm ... I'd say ... you have found your place, right here at MacJams : >
Your lyrics and performance do I fine job of capturing human yearning.

my personal opinion of most religious-based music is mixed, i liked the way you went about this one. it is not overtly pious, nor it is so pretentious to give a call for us non-christians to get on the bandwagon. your faith permeates this track, yet it is a personal faith. and not preachy. i like that. as a matter of fact, the more i listen, the more i love it. i feel like it is ok to listen to this song without feeling guilty for not being a christian. thanks for the tune. it has had an effect on me. thank you.

Allen, I appreciate your comments. I'll admit that our lyrics are sometimes borderline preachy (unintentionally). Being preachy and in-your-face usually isn't effective in trying to share a message. It's often tough to find the right balance, but I'm glad you like this one. Thanks for giving it a listen. [ Reply to This ]
