Description
Here's another sample of the work Brian and I did as Scott & Walker. This song was one Brian brought to me early in 1993, wanting to record it. I helped him polish up the lyrics a little and built the background tracks for it so he could sing his song. This was the song he used as his senior project, and it got him an A+ grade for our efforts. It also helped him to graduate, which put us on the road to our duet.

It was also this song, and the way he sang it, that convinced me to try to help this young man along with his musical career and we started working together from that point on for about 2 years.

So reaching back again into the past I bring you the dynamic duo of Scott & Walker again singing Brian's first song, "Baby You're the One I'm Looking For".

I hope you enjoy the show, and thanks for listening.

Baby, You're the One I'm Looking For

Verse 1

Takin' my time, when the feelin's right

I'll know what I'll have to do

My hearts growing strong, and it can't be wrong

And it's opened up for you

Look in my eyes, I'm not telling lies

Just hear what they have to say

I wanna take you in my arms, and give you my charms

I don't want you to be afraid.

As time passes by, night after night

Can't believe I feel this way

It's you that I like, and holding you tight

And give you love every day

Chorus

Baby your the one, I'm searchin' for

God only knows, What's in store

I'll take my chances, I want to give you romance.

Verse 2

When I see you smile, or stay for a while

See that funning face

It touches my heart, it gives it a spark

And a warmth that makes it fast

Give you my love, take you above

we'll burst off wild and free.

I want you in my life, I dream at night

Dream while we move on in

Chorus

Baby your the one, I'm searching for

God only knows, What's in store

I'll take my chances, I wanna give you romance

I wanna give you romance

Thanks Jack
Listening to this kid sing, it's easy to see why I wanted to work with him. Keep in mind this is a 17 year old high school senior, and not a seasoned pro that had been doing it for years. I was amazed at his singing. By the time we went our separate ways, I'd taught him a lot about song delivery and writing and he was a lot better than on this first recording.

Thanks for the kind words my friend. Be well and stay cool Jack.

Brian is a very talented young man that could go far in the music business if he wanted to. I've lost touch with Brian and have no idea where he is or what he's doing these day, but what ever he's doing I wish him much success.

Thanks for your comments and kind words Feter. Always nice to see you've reviewed one of the songs I post.

Be well and stay cool my friend.

Classic!
A true classic. But I have to agree with Feter about percussions and shaker. This is an amazing piece!

Thank you Yeman
There are a couple of things I can think of to improve this song, and your comment about shakers and percussion is one of them. Another thing that needs to be done to it is to shorten the intro and the guitar part in the middle of the song, and to add a steel guitar and/or fiddle lead to it. One of these days I may attempt to do those things, but I wanted to post it as it was originally done in 1993 so all of you could hear the talent Brian exhibited as a 17 year old high school student.

Thanks for the kind word Yeman and for stopping in to listen to this blast from the past.

Be well and stay cool my friend.

the picture looks like a lake by my old house sort of but it didn't have a dock. this has some nice raw emotion to it. like the instrumental. lyrics are great as well.

Thanks Chance
If it didn't have the dock, then there no chance it had the girl on the dock either , I'm guessing. Too bad too, cause she's definitely one I'd want on my dock, if I had one.

Glad you came by for a listen my friend and found something to like in this song. On this one, I was the sideman and Brian was the artist. All I did was figure out what to do musically and help him polish up the lyrics a little, he brought the heart to the song.

Thanks again for the kind words Chance. Be well and stay cool man.

Thanks for
reaching back to the past. Another fine production sir. Not only is Brians voice so strong and confident, it has the flavor of this tune.
Thanks, Take care, Russ

Thanks Russ
I guess the reason Brian sings this song so well is that it really is his song. He wrote most of it and all I did was help him finish it up and polish the lyrics to where they flowed better than his first draft.

Thanks for you kind words my friend and for dropping in for a listen, it is very much appreciated. Be well and stay cool Russ.

I like the singing on this, sounds a little lose in the drum parts. Excellent song thanks!

Thanks Ego
I like the singing in it too, and yes the drums are a little loose. I programmed them on the Yamaha SY99 and then had to adjust them for level and timing because of the way Brian sang the song. Unfortunately It wasn't as good a job as I would have liked to do, but still and all he got an A+ from his music teacher for the effort and it helped him to graduate from High School that year.

I am working on a new version of this song that will trim the intro and instrumental break, fix the ending, and add some new sounds to the drums that are already there. I might also try to put some kind of lead instrument in the break so it really sounds like a break, instead of just someone strumming chords.

Thanks again Ego for dropping in and you kind words. I do very much appreciate your observations on the drums, they are helpful indeed.

Be well my friend and stay cool.

That's some vibrato
on the voice.

A fine song Ed and well performed.

I'm surprised you didn't add a solo in there.

Cheers

Dick

And that was Brian's natural vibrato too.

As for the missing solo, I'm not sure what happened there, it's been too long ago. Pretty sure I just didn't do one at the time for some reason cause it's not on the master Demo either.

But you'll be happy to know I am working on a shorter version of this one that's sliced out of the original, and I am going to put in the missing solo.

The one you heard here was as recorded in 1993 for his high school senior project so I tried to keep it simple. Only problem is it got boring in the break which was way too long for the song, as was the intro. I've already fixed those mistake on the new cut and I'm working on the other parts I want to do to make it a finished song instead of a demo.

Thanks for the kind words Dick. Glad you got to drop in for a listen.

Be well my friend.

Thanks Micheal
Well thanks a lot for nothing Micheal. I always thought I was pretty, but you had to go and bust my bubble now didn't you. lol

And another thing, if you think getting her to sit there on that dock while we did the final take was hard to do, you should have seen the fight we had getting her to sit there throughout all the rehearsals and recording sessions too.

Thanks for the kind words Micheal. One of the reasons I agreed to help Brian out was because of his natural talent, which shows up nicely in this song. There are a couple of other songs I've posted where Brian did the singing, and you might want to check them out too if you haven't already done so. Here's the links to them:
