OMG - this is GORGEOUS!! If this doesn't belong on a movie soundtrack, nothing does. So perfectly, thoughtfully executed, so heartfelt. This is a real masterpiece - congratulations! [ Reply to This ]

Karen, you are very kind to say that. I tried to think this one out, at least in form, more than some of my previous stuff. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for your comments.

Arrangement &mdash 05/11/08 - 10:33:08 PM
Thanks for your thoughtful comments. After exporting the song to itunes the dynamics and the mix in general always sound different from the mix in GB, but I'm glad the dynamic contrasts came through anyway. Thanks for stopping by.

Stately &mdash 05/11/08 - 10:58:09 PM
Wonderful, lush arrangement. The string melody and the loud/soft dynamics were great. My only critique is that some of the horn sounds were a little flat in the mix. Maybe a bit of delay or reverb or even doubling would give them a bit more of a spacious feel. If not movie soundtrack music then maybe you could hook up with a video game. Halo 3 theme song has a similar orchestrated feel. [ Reply to This ]
Stately &mdash 05/11/08 - 11:07:37 PM
Thanks for your comments. As for the horns. I had previously posted this song with lots more reverb on the trumpet. I got a few comments that suggested it was too much. On this version I backed off a little on the reverb. Perhaps I overdid it.
Yeah if someone wanted to use this on a video game I would definitely be interested.
I appreciate your detailed comments.

Hi Chip &mdash 05/12/08 - 03:27:58 AM
A giant production that suits your space picture. If you were aiming for a hepic theme for a Star Trek movie you've hit the nail on the head. You say you took a bit of reverb off for this version but I'm with Kicbal and would like to hear a litle more on the horns. This is nit picking - it's still great as it is!
All the best

I really appreciate your generous comments. Maybe I'll go in and re-tweak the horns. I prob won't repost though. People might get tired of it since this has already been posted once. Thanks again for stopping by and commenting.

Great soundtrack &mdash 05/12/08 - 08:37:42 AM
for a love story, definitely. Reminds me of titanic a little bit, but a lot more triumphant and hopeful. :-) [ Reply to This ]

another one! &mdash 05/12/08 - 10:01:06 PM
Another gorgeous piece of music. You are very talented chipan! Definitely can see a future for you in video game music or film soundtracks. My only critique is of the horn sounds in the very beginning. By the time the French Horns come in they are ok, but that trumpet sound is very, very synth sounding. Not sure if that was what you were going for, but I found it distracted me too much. It doesn't fit with the beautiful full strings/orchestral background as the song goes on. Thanks again for another great piece. [ Reply to This ]
Horns &mdash 05/13/08 - 06:21:22 AM
Thank you for your comments and kind words. As for the trumpet, it is not part of Jampack 4. It's actually a free software called Boldt trumpet which you may be aware of. It's not very realistic (no offense to Mr. Boldt- he was generous enough to offer it free to the public), but I suppose with more tinkering I could make it sound better. I used it because there is no solo trumpet in the jampack, and I really wanted to use a trumpet to open. Thanks again.

I understand... &mdash 05/14/08 - 09:56:57 PM
...why you want to try it with less reverb. I do the same thing with my pieces...more sometimes, less others....etc.
Sounds great both ways, Chip... [ Reply to This ]
To reverb or not to reverb... &mdash 05/17/08 - 12:30:03 AM
Yeah, it's hard to decide sometimes how much reverb is enough. I recently found out through one of the forums that I don't mix correctly because I do it with headphones. I live in an apartment and don't have good monitors anyway so I pretty much have to use headphones. Thanks for stopping by and commenting, Bob.

Quite a lovely theme Chip, &mdash 05/15/08 - 06:20:45 PM
that's very well constructed. It has a Jerry Goldsmith spirt and a wonderful heroic sweep to it that's a great fit for the Scifi Genre.
OUTSTANDING!

I must confess I wasn't familiar with Jerry Goldsmith, but after looking up his stuff on itunes I see what you mean. I did kind of go for that feel here. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks very much for commenting.

Soundtrack &mdash 06/29/08 - 08:29:59 PM
Sounds like a soundtrack for a movie version of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.
I really like the cymbal rolls to transition into phrases. The pizzicato strings are also well-written and fit nicely into this piece.
This piece just begs to be written out and played by a real orchestra. You've probably already made plans for that to happen.
The key change about 3/4 of the way through is well-conceived and nicely executed.
A pleasure. You've got great composing chops! Keep posting.

Round Table &mdash 06/30/08 - 07:44:16 AM
I would love a real orchestra to play this. In college I had the chance to have the orchestra play one of my pieces, but now I don't have any connections with any local orchestras here in Japan.
Thanks for your comments. I am a big fan of your piano playing and your words are a real encouragement to me.
