this needs a really simple catchy pop hook and i'm at a loss (1), ()
Description:
I just came back from court (had to testify against the guy who assaulted me last month). what a friggin nightmare. his lawyer grilled me on whether I had ever been arrested (yeah, back in the 80's) and what color shirt the guy was wearing (i don't know, he hit me from behind). she tried to make it out like i wasn't a credible witness, but then found out I run a statewide HIV program and said she didn't have any more questions. I still felt bad for the guy (obviously crazy), but she pissed me off so much I wanted her to lose in a big way.
Anyways, I digress. I came home and started recording to get my head straight and came up with this little tune. It's an indie/alternative pop song and the key of A is all wrong for me. I was inspired enough to do the music, and nothing is striking me for vocals. very simple and straightforward, but not happening for me.
anyone care to take a shot at it? i recorded it in GB4.

i like happy/sad songs like this. i'll give it a shot.

can't wait to hear what you come up with. i started something and it may be headed too much in a built to spill/pavement direction. now get to work :)
rsorensen
a built to spill/pavement direction. sounds tasty.

makings of a really good song - I keep hearing cascading acoustic guitars for some reason! Really catchy tune - can you let me have the chords?
Peter
PS I trust you're OK after the ordeal?
michael2
the chords are just A, but on the chorus it does A,E F# and D. the guitar parts were just improvised, so not sure if they are inadvertently playing some weird passing chords. thanks for the interest.
lavalamp
open for vocals. Like the little tune you put down. Inspiring.

lavalamp. appreciate it.

Congratulations, Michael.
itīs great as it is and it no doubt will become excellent when the vocals were added.

looks like ya got some players. cool.
neat guitar lines and melody. flows nicely.
a pisser on the court deal. This method of victimizing the victims has really gone to extremes.

Music is the best way to let out frustrations.
Nice one Michael

I had to come here to listen to the original song that rsorenson added to. This is great just as it is frankly, but the addition is also great. I hope your nightmare with the assault starts to abate a abit (abate abit?) with the court date out of the way. I love how you're able to use your awesome musical talent to deal with it all - you rock!
davisamerica
actually heard rsorensen version before catching up to you .... this is a "hunny" of a tune .. sorry about the fun time in legalville .. u should pull some traffic on collabs on this ... it really is good michael

they sound like they're being played live in the room. Guess they could be actually. Great feel and lots of generous openings for the next person to come along. I like the Pavement idea - considering you were hit with a chunk of sidewalk.
michael2
the drums were probably the part that i spent the most time on. not the actual programming (it's just 2 midi loops, no fills); but experimenting with compression, EQ and reverb to try and get a good "live in the practice room'" sort of sound. i picked the loops because they sound like my old drummer Scott plays (kind of like aural comfort food).
just did the vox for this, but i need to let them sit for a night; just to make sure I don't hate them.
WOW!!!
Mike it sounds absolutely fantastic. I love it. Was this another one that you created when you came back from court because I have that one too.
I am sure I download all your music I could never do this one justice.
thanks
Peace Dee xx
Don't change a thing. The key of A gives it real whimsey.
It's quite solid. It makes me feel like i am back in SF again.

Mystified
You convinced me...

Thanks for the invitation :)

I'm late to this party. I downloaded the piece when you first uploaded it, as I do with all your pieces, but I didn't get around to commenting until now.
I love the piece stand-alone and I can hear definite lead lines that could fit. I'm going to play around with this over the next few weeks and see what comes out. If anything does credit to your music I'll let you know, otherwise I'll keep quiet.
I have listened a few times and the same lead line keeps coming to me so it's just a matter of playing the keys to mix it in. Ha!!
Take care.

This is good how it is. It could be the soundtrack on a Wes Anderson film.

Far oot man. Prima Michael.

like I forgot Michael any chance of the B.P.M. on this wee gem - I just listened to your vocal take on this and it's triffic, toodle pip old bean.

.. while listening and thought ... OH how KEWL would a RSorenson / Ledebutant vocal COLLAB BE on this !!!!! YES .. I hope they read this ... or maybe M2 tells them that I said this ... or ... or ... or ..... but then again .. while listening I could also hear some RAWKIN guitar riffs coming in here and there ... but I don't play guitar ... so .... hopefully one of our guitar rock officionados ... mught just take the cue ...... OK while listening I read a few more and now know that RSorenson did something with it ... but I still think Ledeb should throw in !!!!

And if rsorensen does something to it - COOL!

as it stands now. It will undoubtedly be turned into an army of pop tunes. I like the sounds you make as you blow off steam---and those you make when you're not, as well!

Sorry to hear what inspired this tune... I'm actually thinking of using it as background music to a slide show of Democratic candidates up for election in Oregon for the fall election!
Cheers,

effort. I've heard how it was added to and frankly, without your music, those great songs wouldn't exist. You are generous to provide the tunes for others. Thanks.

I have a chorus already laid out vocally... Key of A has NEVER been something I`ve tried, so , Im up for a challenge
