Description:
This tune is my "greatest hit" from my time playing in bands in college in the late 80s and early 90s. It almost got me into Lynard Skynard's recording studio in Muscle Shoals, Ala. to record a professionally done four song demo. *sigh* If only the guy who was going to be our manager had, oh, paid his taxes....

Anyway, this was the only original the band I was in at the time had requests for when we played. We played in and around the University of Mississippi campus and this song is very much about Ole Miss and Oxford in the 90s. It was inspired when, one day while walking across campus, a young woman driving, of course a BMW, didn't pay attention to the fact that there was both a stop sign and a crosswalk and rolled me several feet across the pavement with her car. She immediately jumped out of her car to check and see if I had hurt it. Once she was assured that her car wasn't damaged, she got back in and drove off. I wasn't injured and my friends and I got a good laugh out of it. I also got a song out of it, so I think were even.

One of the later band I was in did actually record this in a local studio. Hopefully, one of these days, I'll be able to get the original track off the tapes that I have from those sessions and make them all nice and digital so I can play with them.

Anyway, here it is. This is the first time I've recorded this on my own. Take a listen and I hope you enjoy.

There's a part of me that's glad the IRS came to town. I think with the guys I was with at the time, we might have actually been able to get something rolling if we'd gotten someone promoting us. We'd eventually find fame, fortune, drugs, women and other depravities on our meteoric rise to the top and have the world at our fingers. At least until the hot, supermodel girlfriend of the guitar player decided she needed to have a say in band policies. Frustrated, we'd all embark on our own side projects, saying the band was going to stay together, but knowing it was all over. We'd go our separate ways, not really speaking because of the bitterness that had grown between us. Fortunately, though, we'd eventually rekindle our friendships after the VH1 special that, after 20 years, got us back together in the same room at the same time and talking again.

So, what was the question.....

...kind of a hybrid arrangement of the tune. The first band I did this with, it was a much more bluesy tune done by just a three-piece and a wunderkind on his Strat. The second group was still a three-piece, but it was a faster, heavier version with screaming metal solos. I kinda like it this way now. It's more in line with the way I first envisioned it.

I liked Feter's comparison - no wonder this got requests. I never met any girls who drove BMWs (even ones that knocked me down). Cool song and a good mix.

My alma mater was full of Southern beauties with rich daddies who didn't even realize that poor ole country boys like me existed, which was fine with me, except when it came to crosswalks.

And, BTW, if we did have the same manager, and you see him again, remind him he owes me five bucks.

Lyrics are very fun. I could hear this live in a club. Well-sung. I know this may sound funny, but I think this song might be better suited for a female vocal. I think the "bitch" part, would be more cutting.......ya know what I mean?

I'd never thought about how this would be with female vocals. I may have to experiment with that if I can find someone with a nice, sultry, voice....

I really wondered when I posted this tune how well it would appeal to people beyond bars in Oxford, Miss. in the late 1980s. It seems do do pretty well though, which makes me feel good about it.

That party was only the second time we played. BTW, I think the recipe for the punch was PGA, vodka, rum, orange juice, grenadine, sliced fruit and 10W-30. :)

...about the opportunities that have fallen through or I have passed up, but I have plenty of friends who have "made it" on one level or another, and for so many of them it has just sucked the joy out of making music. I'd rather be doing this and loving it than having to "make" myself get up and perform when I don't really feel like it.
