Description:
This is an adaptation I did of Birdman Wayne's beautiful song. Also see No Road Back to Baghdad.
BW and I might try a version with playing and singing by both of us.
Photo of my mother's childhood home in Aslout is by Etien Wansa.
Lyrics:
[A] Em - Am - B7 (no F# on high E string) - Em
[B refrain] Am (5th fret) - Gmajor (3rd fret) - Gflat Major (2nd fret) - Em - (B - 2nd time only)
[A] The day that I left you,
was the day that I missed you.
My young heart was broken
as goodbyes were spoken.
[A] We crossed desert mountains,
fleeing danger, death and fear.
Will the love of my life
always be a victim of war?
[B] Living without you
is shaded in blue.
I'm dying to come full circle
to my life, my love, my town.
[A] In the news I see you:
Soldiers guarding the ruins of pride.
The gunshots and the babble
drown the fading chants of peace.
[A] Will faith in your God
be shattered by greed and hate?
Do you believe in destiny?
Do you believe in prayer?
[B] Living without you
is shaded in blue.
I'm dying to come full circle
to my life, my love, my town.
interlude
[B] Living without you
is shaded in blue.
I'm dying to come full circle
to my life, my love, my town.
[A] Another year of sorrow.
Another year of fear.
Another year of longing.
Please, bring peace back to my home town.
Music and lyrics loosely based on a song by Birdman Wayne.
Adaptation by Richard Schletty (v.11, 4-23-2008).

Cool start. This should be great by the time you and Yeman bring this to finish. The kid's got such talent. [ Reply to This ]
I loved &mdash 05/17/08 - 08:37:32 AM
the other version - but I can hear that this is stronger and more emotionally sung. Great work.
Cheers

I rather &mdash 05/17/08 - 10:23:21 AM
like that this is stripped down - It's a powerful song and too much embellishment might detract from the emotion of the song.
Thanks for posting this version

I'm looking forward to the final version. This is really neat... An honor, thanks a lot for doing that Mr. Richard!

Your singing is wonderful &mdash 05/17/08 - 06:23:44 PM
as always, Richard. I like the direct, stripped down approach. I know you plan to do more with this; I hope you can retain the simplicity and directness of this, though. Sad, and true, and very well done. Kudos. Peace. [ Reply to This ]

What's better than one Richard? Well, a couple more, singing harmony. Neat! [ Reply to This ]
