Description:
OK.. before you bollock me for the production, let me explain that this is an old analogue recording I found recently. I'm finally going back and reworking old material. What I would like to know from my wonderful peers on this site is - is this worth redoing? What suggestions do you have. I know the vocals are poorly recorded - but what else would you suggest? Yours in Fraternity - Luna Trick.

Lyrics:
Disappear

Eternal the moment
Shiver in synthesis
Eyes feel the heat of your renegade smile

I call – you come
I wonder – you shine
Then you disappear – disappear

Dashing with color
Writhing for emphasis
The edge of the night on the blanche of your skin

Oh pull us together
Power of ambivalence
Twist the dark shadows that yearn to be one

I ruse – your space
I linger – to trace
Your memory – memory

Spare me the perfume
Of timeless illusions
Clutching for midnight on the crow of dawn

Enduring the promise
Of shattered polarity
Love lies in drifts of the silent snow

So vacantly…

Hardware:
Old analogue recording on a tape based 4track - I think the drums were done on a Zoom box I was playing with at the time. Most guitar and bass are live - though I don't remember the instruments

Software:
Remixed in GB

do it! &mdash 05/16/08 - 11:36:00 PM
Definitely redo this piece. I LOVE it. Would have liked to hear the guitar more - it's pretty way back there and kind of got lost. I know, I know...don't knock the production. haha. Awesome sounds here...great vocals. Add some harmonies or tweaked background vox. Oh what a fun little keyboard tinkle. I don't really think you need to add anything instrumentation-wise...just redo what's already here. I even like the heavy dance/techno drum beats that are thrown in there. Cool tune, dude...do it!

Thanks Shay! &mdash 05/18/08 - 10:39:23 AM
I definitely plan to bring up the guitar part - and perhaps play with the percussion as Bryn suggests!

This reminds me &mdash 05/16/08 - 11:45:41 PM
of a track called now is the time that we used to do in my old band back in the early 90's

if i were to redo this the things that jump to mind to me immediately are

lower the drums - in fact do something totally different with them
treat the vocals differently - different reverb/echo...make them stand out a bit more
re-do the arrangement

all in all it would be worthwhile reworking i think

Your advice is always welcome - I will play with the beats and flesh this thing out!

Do what Bryn says... &mdash 05/17/08 - 12:50:17 AM
...as he is the man. I think it's a great track - i love the dancey drums contrasted with the ambient keyboards. I think the drums are fine (but a bit thumpy in places) but the vox need a bit more clarity... reminds me of the old guy from INXS in the voice. This is a great track... definately worth revisiting man.

Thanks! &mdash 05/18/08 - 10:42:43 AM
Although the grisly end of Michael Hutchins still makes me shiver!

WOW! &mdash 05/17/08 - 03:49:29 AM
This is a solid song with silky voice and great guitar in the background. Think though if you turned up the guitar a tad and added a searing lead in the middle and at the end with a different effector it would have blown everyone away. But as always, music is subjective so it could be fine as is.

I like it &mdash 05/18/08 - 11:33:33 AM
It reminds a bit of an underated old 80's band called The Sound. Good textures on this!

Am somewhat familiar.. &mdash 05/26/08 - 06:22:42 PM
but will have to listen to a bit more of their stuff in order to understand the comparison. THanks for the encouragement!

All the elements are already there &mdash 05/26/08 - 02:00:45 PM
Yeah, this is pretty fantastic just as it is. Definitely worth trying to recapture its soul in digital form.

Lyrics are excellent and your vocals are a treat.

To receive your praise &mdash 05/26/08 - 06:24:17 PM
is such a treat for me. To be honest, I am a reluctant vocalist - so any encouragement is good. Thank you so much for listening!

You're welcome &mdash 05/27/08 - 03:22:01 AM
A reluctant singer? You've no need to be. You've got a lovely voice (i.e. it has a naturally nice tone to it) and you know how to use it, so you can't go too far wrong.
