Description:
Written in August 2004. key-[E]

This is a song about the Wild West show with Buffalo Bill and Sitting Bull. This show actually toured Britain as well in the early part of the last century. I read a bit about Sitting Bull and it seemed he was a very kind and generous man who gave much of his money away, also it seems he was appaled by the widespread poverty in the white man's world. A good man I think.

Lyrics:
Buffalo Bill. [written August 2004]

1. Riding the range all day long in the blazing sun ,
Looking for Injuns far and wide , Bill and his gun ,
Here come sitting Bull redskin chief ,
Moving on down from a distant reef.

2. Indian warrior looking so fine gonna stand his ground ,
Bill better watch 'cause a bow and arrow don't make no sound ,
Sitting on a piebald proud and high ,
Buzzards hanging 'round in the morning sky .

Chorus. Buffalo Bill , Buffalo Bill ,load up shoot it out, load up shoot it out ,
Buffalo Bill , Buffalo Bill , Bang bang shoot 'em daddy ,
bang bang shoot 'em daddy.

3. Do or die it's the time for truth let the game begin ,
Face to face got to see it through ,may the best man win ,
Some say Sitting Bull ,some say Bill ,
Some just waiting for the final kill .

REPEAT CHORUS - SOLO OVER CHORUS CHORDS.

4. Make belief for the wild west show ,'cause it's all in fun ,
Back in town at the best hotels when the day is done ,
Smoking their tomahawk pipe of peace .
After their mocking hostilities cease .

REPEAT CHORUS

of the year award. John, I know I always say this, but it is so catchy and immediate.
Your musical skills are superb as ever and the production good too.
Love the unusual subject matter - this really could have been a big hit. really enjoyed it.
Cheers

I saw an old advert for the original show and thought it would be good subject matter. I read up a bit about it and then plugged in my Wurlitzer W200 tone bar piano and off to go.

Thanks for listening and saying such nice things, gives an old hippy heart.

Been meaning to ask you as well Mark - is the cat in the picture yours ? - what a beauty. I love cats.

Another great song and a three minute history lesson. What more can a person ask for?

You are king of the third line melody change, if such a title exists.

Always interesting, always clever, always good!

The Wild West show came to Wales in 1903. In Cardiff where I live it was staged at Sophia Gardens. I was later to see Jerry Lee Lewis for the first time at this venue on Wednesday 2nd.May 1962. Seems like only yesterday in some ways.

I'm glad you like the song. Thanks for your comments.

I did some reading up about this pair when I wrote this and discovered that the Wild West Show toured all over Wales in 1903/4... I was amazed they'd been to so many places here. Also many of the Indians in the show brought their families with them.

Glad you enjoyed it.

John
