Description:
well, the last version didn't get a lot of comments, but jiguma pointed out something funny in the bridge, so I set about to punching in a new bass part there, and in the process I decided to change the drum part and harmonies. I changed a bunch of subtle things. The drums are the biggest difference, with a sort of slow-sounding halftime feel that seems to drag, but since the lyrical theme seems to be how time passes slow, I thought this sort of lazy tempo would suit the song. What's the music made up of? EZ Drummer Nashville Kit and Latin Percussion loops with 2 tracks of electric guitar playing, electric bass, charango, electric piano, Ultrabeat and jew's harp, and then a ton of vocal tracks. Let me know how you think this one compares to this one. Thanks!

Lyrics:
got down got down on my knees
kissed the ground dusted off my sleves
further than I thought it's be
harder harder than it seemed

hold tight hold tight then let it go
spin the wheel and let it rock and roll
round and round and round it goes
where the little ball bounces
no one knows

But oh when the whistle blows
everybody seems to

no time no time to take it slow
no time to be young no time to be growin' old
hot and hot and then your cold
keep up and keep up and don't let go
high time high time for feelin' fine
you know it's more more than a state of mind
you get yours and I have to get mind
and that's just the way it is

But oh when the whistle blows
everybody seems to

But oh when the whistle blows
everybody seems to
know
sometimes you get down and then you get up
take more ponies than your pickup truck
don't let your spirits all change your luck
to suit me
don't back down and don't back up
can't fill the ocean with a paper cup
I hope no one else ever has troubles like these

Got up got up off my knees
thankful thankful for days like these
no matter no matter what you think
they're never gonna happen again
hold on hold on let it go
spin the wheel let it rock and roll
round and round it goes

But oh when the whistle blows
everybody seems to know
But oh when the whistle blows
everybody seems to know
oh oh
ohoho oh oh

I like the new pace Jim &mdash 05/17/08 - 05:12:55 PM
A nice sounding kit. I still find the bass runs in the chorus a little more complex than I'd have expected, but it works much better this time - maybe due to some of the subtle changes - did you change the key of the mouth harp? - it sounds more in tune with the rest this time. Ending is interesting - that held, discordant bass note works there, and the mouth harp sounds great.
Big improvement Jim.

Gee... &mdash 05/18/08 - 05:05:20 AM
Now it's the chorus? I thought it was the bridge. Maybe I should have a real bass player play this! Don't be surprised if you get something in the mail, Neil! I just like controlling everything myself where I think I can get away with it. Part of the problem might be that I came up with an acoustic guitar part for this and sent it to Kelli, and after a few months she sent it back with the vocal; in the interim I forgot exactly what I played and sort of had to make it up to put in the other parts and the acoustic guitar part didn't fit anymore.

Oh yes, the key! &mdash 05/18/08 - 05:14:07 AM
I did pitch-shift the jew's harp. It's actually automated now so there's a bit of a melody there, or at least more of one, though it's sort of a discordant instrument anyway. I have a friend whose father was a famed music writer friendly with Miles Davis, and this friend is an expert jew's harp player. Miles told him, "you'll never get anywhere playin' no one-note instrument!".

Well &mdash 05/17/08 - 05:39:58 PM
I liked it before but with similar reservations to Neil. This is much better and a definite fav. I think the 'lazy' tempo suits nicely. Thanks for working on it.

Trademark &mdash 05/17/08 - 05:47:13 PM
It has that trademark lazy, relaxed and cool vibe that I've come to associate with "The Fritters". Real nice song... probably my favorite of yours since "Rocks Up a Hill".

Lyrically outstanding and I was totally drawn in by the first lines.

I really like the magical, mystical tapestry you weave behind your tunes. You have a very nicely evolved studio style. Great vocals kelli.

A frame for a great voice &mdash 05/22/08 - 10:24:50 PM
This is much better Jim. I mean tons better. Though I do like your idea of hitting up Neil for a bass run. Hmm, could be interesting. This stands perfectly well as is and is on its way to my iTunes. Thanx. Great Job.

Cheers,

Joe
