Description:
Imagine yourself in a secluded forest, under the stars and full moon bright overhead. Crickets singing, trees dancing in the breeze. The night air is clean and crisp and chill.
Umm...and there's a frog stuck somewhere that won't shut up.
And who invited the DJ!?!?
Oh alright, may as well do a little jig to the beats he's mixing cuz it's a night for dancing!
ps - just a silly little piece I wrote for a string quartet a few years ago and dug out of the trash heap as I was cleaning out my hard drive to make room for my new LOGIC EXPRESS 8 - yeah baby! But no, I did not use LE8 to create this little gem. I haven't figured the darn thing out yet.
Lyrics:
dancing in the moonlight
everybodys feeling warm and bright
its such a fine and natural sight
everybodys dancing in the moonlight
oh wait - those aren't mine - wrong song

NO FROGS WERE HARMED DURING THE PRODUCTION OF THIS SONG.

Great lighthearted witch romp. I very much enjoyed the syncopation, the changes, and the melody, but mostly the mood it all created.
Having a witch actually tap dancing in the background has to be considered a huge bonus... [ Reply to This ]

Very unusual and interesting and listenable.
I'm glad to hear about the frogs as I'm a big frog fan.
An enjoyable piece.

Witches Waltz &mdash 05/19/08 - 12:30:50 PM
this is terrific shay! Love the light-heartedness combined with really well put together orchestrating and ideas. Love the frog. Glad none were harmed in the production. [ Reply to This ]
A rare frog... &mdash 05/20/08 - 12:53:19 PM
sometimes known as "amphibious pizzicatis"... or maybe that's an Italian dipping-sauce, I forget. As for the lyrics, uh, you weren't peeking into our back yard this weekend were you? Dang, we're going to have to wear clothes for the next full-moon party now!
This was silly and fun, and gives you another KSA star for only using one kind of instrument throughout. You are progressing nicely! Very nice bit of music, and it did have a *warm* quality.

witchy type meself, I can attest that this is exactly whats its like! :)
I really liked this and so very happy you pulled it from the trash heap for our eager ears here. The composition was lovely of course but your use of the ambient sounds was top notch!! So easy to overburden a piece with them and yet after listening to your entire back log you have a seriously good ear for it.
...and your sense of humor in the notes adds even more. :) Thank you very much

Brilliant piece of music here. Love the mischievous feel to this. I could hear chanting witches in the background......oh wait, that's just in my mind.
Stellar stuff,

Quite the intriguing piece. I liked it! Allot! Not as dark as I expected. I really wanted to hear more. (greedy me said that)
Nice job, Shay! I even like your name!

Really liked this &mdash 05/22/08 - 11:05:02 PM
Brought to mind Hector Berlioz and his Symphonie Fantastique which I love very much. The frogs, I hear these guys in early summer, screaming from my water garden. They keep me awake at night. If only they could be accompanied by your music, I would rest peacefully. Thanks for this. Terry [ Reply to This ]

put a spell on me. The ambience around the pizzicato is so unique and adds its own rhythm to it! [ Reply to This ]

Nice sense of movement with the composition. In fact, this is a very strong piece in that respect. The harmony is spot on. Would that be counterpoint? [ Reply to This ]
"Witchcom" theme song? &mdash 05/29/08 - 12:34:23 PM
If only there was a TV series based on "Practical Magic", this could be a great opening theme.
I have been familiar with this tune of Kassia's for a few years now, but have always been limited to hearing her play it on the piano or the (awful) midi emulation from some old software she used to use. The first time I heard this version, I loved it and was reminded of the theme from the Showtime series "Dexter". Perhaps it is the brief length. Good job baby! [ Reply to This ]
witchcraft is afoot.... &mdash 05/29/08 - 08:14:22 PM
and a powerful spell is brewing indeed! Well done, Shay. This reminded me of Peter and the Wolf. You create a wonderful, mysterious, enchanting mood in this piece.

Very good instrumentation. I could picture this song in a spielberg movie. Very clear in sound and idea.. Thanks for sharing it! [ Reply to This ]
So much fun &mdash 05/31/08 - 08:51:43 PM
and playfulness in this song. A very delightful tune... kind of hard not to smile throughout! My daughter used to take dance and I can very easily imagine her group performing to this at a Halloween style dance recital.
I'm still smiling! [ Reply to This ]

I love this. The arrangement is terrific, and the rhythm works very well. The picture you paint with your introduction (and the dancing witch!) really add to the vibe. Very well-written and nicely performed piece. Nicely done. Peace. [ Reply to This ]

Wonderful little piece. You can just see the witches dancing around the cauldron.
Btw, I had to stop the music to make sure the ambient animal noises were coming from you and not from outside. I have lots of nature noises here, even though I'm fairly in the middle of town. Crickets, frogs, an occasional owl.... [ Reply to This ]
