Description:
Being fairly upset, I called up my little "garageband", bound and determined that I'm supposed to be having a good time, DAMMIT!... By the end of this tune, I was prolly having too good a time, It's amazing what you can squeeze out of a few borrowed phrases.
Hope you enjoy it! Thanks for stopping by. Macca

You are.. &mdash 05/20/08 - 11:52:12 AM
...quite the scientist: sitting in your labORatory, hunched over your smoking keyboard, eyes rolling madly as you produce sounds that transcend the banal...
Translated: this is really nice and I'm very impressed that you're "new" to working with sounds outside of percussion. Really cool piece with lots of space in it. The title captures the mood...

no no noooo.... &mdash 05/20/08 - 12:09:45 PM
No... It is amazing what *YOU* can squeeze out... I don't really know of too many other people who can create something this interesting and engaging with just "a few borrowed phrases." Well, OK, Beethoven maybe, but he's DEAD! :-) I'll gently disagree with Bob above, and mention that I hear Lots of percussive rhythm here as if you are using all these instruments more rhythmically than melodically (which is great, you did really well with it.) It is your wonderful grasp of timing that makes this so fun. Oh, and that spiral artwork is dizzy-pretty too. Great to see something new from you Macca, but I am sorry to hear why it was created.

That Ludwig guy had more than just a few phrases and I don't think that they borrowed. And even if they're were some that were borrowed, at least you knew that he was gonna pay his debt, It even makes me laff to know how much I'm a bad deal and how being paid back is sooo not gonna happen. lol You make me laff, and even if you don't mean to, Draik!
I started to send this to you to ask if you'd review it so that I could know that I was getting an 'A' on my little project by the time that it was being presented to the class. I chickened out and convinced myself that it was too much to ask of you. Well... Maybe I thought that it might be too much to ask of me ; ) by the time that it might be over...
One day, I'm gonna do a tune w/ no drums whatsoever - you just wait and see... I know I can do it... I know I can....
Thanks for stopping by, Sir! Always a delight. [ Reply to This ]
Sometimes "They" Stink &mdash 05/20/08 - 01:00:34 PM
I'm glad you turned the situation into something so positive, Babycakes. You know I love it when you bust out the brass and I'm digging on the percussive nature of all this, like Eduard (do you do things that aren't percussive, though?) This reminds me of All of It, which reminds me that I think you should put that one back up, because I love it so much.

Re:percussions &mdash 05/20/08 - 01:23:14 PM
Strangely pleasing is this one, Dion. Sounds like good background music for someone involved in some sort of mischief... and perhaps that's what it reflects. But a delightful, innocent sort of mischief.
You have a singular sense of rhythm and percussion, that's for sure. Good lemonade squeezed out of a lemony situation. I'd be more likely to pull out my old "you're gonna burn in hell" song and work on it. ;)

""I'd be more likely to pull out my old "you're gonna burn in hell"" -- Of course, this was my first thought but you know..., we're kinda all grown up now and even if we don't wanna, we gotta at least act the part. Dammit, again! lol! You make me laugh, sir! Even when I see your name and before reading anything, the sides of lips curl up, ready for noisy smiling action.
Thank you, for stopping by, Joe! Really appreciate it! D [ Reply to This ]

I literally just put my equipment back together after a choir recording session tonight and this was the first thing I listened to. Excellent way to test the system, hehe! [ Reply to This ]

Well that seems to be what i was trying to do, but the funny thing is, I was fairly oblivious to what I was trying to do until at some point, I realized what I had done. Captivating &mdash 05/22/08 - 11:52:49 AM
That's nice word! I was equally as captured by the state that I was in for way longer than a person should sit in one spot, and peering into the digital works of a screen. Interestingly though, is how much of this was done w/o me hearing it. Placing notes w/o listening to hear what I had done, not until I'd gone a ways into this piece. Most of it was quite intuitive and done while in a zone. That's what amazed me about the process of composing this paticular piece. Thanks for sharing such kind sentiments, Ross! I always enjoy taking in the string of words that you lay into a line.

Ticklish &mdash 05/20/08 - 07:46:58 PM
There's something very compelling about this... I think it's brilliant use of the space between notes as a way of making every single note seem to have it's own bit of personality. And they hold together in melodies that seem to be taking interesting paths. Like when you walk off the trail and step through the woods in a semi-random, but carefully plotted path, making use of the rocks and roots and uneven terrain to guide you to new unexplored places. It's always great listening to your stuff, Macca. [ Reply to This ]
Ticklish &mdash 05/22/08 - 12:03:04 PM
Another word that I like! And by the end of this, I was actually smiling and being made happy a bit more than one should by their own work. I always like your analogies, David - Interestingly, at some point, I was consciously watching a psychodelic pony placing each step, of which, each note placement was representing. Do ponies go hiking... lol... Cantcha see it now... Don't know where the pony came from but we'll just chalk up the psyco action to being one of those pesky little flashbacks...
Thanks for stopping by, David! I'd been missing you! Hope you'll be putting out something soon!!! Macca [ Reply to This ]

That thing you do &mdash 05/20/08 - 10:25:27 PM
The one thing that always stands out in your contributions is the way you layer your instruments. Just when I think one instrument is above the rest another comes in to take its place. I guess its like walking though a crowded area (party perhaps). Some voices you hear distant and then you bump right into someone trying to talk over the music. [ Reply to This ]
I noticed... &mdash 05/22/08 - 12:15:00 PM
Your comments seem to refer my music to people, and I'm rarely thinking about people when I'm composing. Although, you weren't saying that I was trying to represent people - I think that you tend to be closer to what goes on in the human heart, and in those good ways - that's why we need you! Keep up the good work, Mitchell. And thanks for your continued support, Sir! Macca [ Reply to This ]
Boy, does this perk up my morning... &mdash 05/21/08 - 07:59:29 AM
So good to see that 'Macaudion' name in the email list...
And the way I hear it, you've got melodic instruments being played with a percussionist's sense of phrasing, and percussive instruments played in ways that bring out the tone and tonality, the melodic potential, that they possess...
It sounds very 'you', too... I'd hear this and know who'd crafted it immediately...
Sorry to hear about the upset... Delighted to hear some new music from you, though...
Ed [ Reply to This ]
Hi Ed &mdash 05/23/08 - 11:51:55 AM
Good to read your words! I always like reading what you have to say because you have a tendency to point out exactly what I've done and even when I wasn't so aware. It helps because sometimes, I will more consciously focus on what you've pointed out to try and nail it more susynctly next time around. I do know that I tend to be more percussive in my efforts but oftentimes, (like on this tune) I'm trying to offer more melodic musings. I guess that i failed again, w/ the exception of what I was doing w/ percussion. See... But I like the idea of trying to focus more on seeing how much melody I can squeeze out of percusive instruments. Probably the only way that I'll be able to escape my natural tendencies is to not use percussive instruments. I know I can do it, i know I can...
Anything new from you in the near future???
Thanks, again for tuning in, here.

The short film festivals are calling you dude. You seem to be master of the incidental music to shorts not unlike "The Red Balloon", at least in this upload.

Even If &mdash 05/22/08 - 04:16:37 PM
Even if you are trying to prove you can do without that percussion, I think (like drakonis) the percussive elements to this are fabulous. I love the minimalist approach you have taken - getting across a very clear melodic line with very little instrumentation and accompaniment. You did this all in GB! Everything sounds great and the mix and volume of all the parts was perfect. This is a great piece of work Macca and I look forward to hearing more from you! [ Reply to This ]

Awww, man... You're too nice, Shay! Yep, I did do this all in GB! I get confused w/ too much technology, and well... GB makes it easy for me. I find that GB is only limited to what I can imagine - and I'm stickn' to that belief no matter what!
