One of my favorite songs, ever, is Velvet Underground's "Sunday Morning."
I always wanted to make a song that would be good on a Sunday drive.
So, this is it. It was fun to record.
I should note that most of the song is just my voice and the E-string of my guitar.
I hope you enjoy! ~ Mark

Lyrics:
Sunday DrivingWell, we're Sunday driving.
It's our way of hiding.
It's our way of surviving the week that's been.
Go pee before we're leaving.
We're gonna drive right through the evening.
We're gonna find out what's down the road.
The work will still be there.
The crazy-making stuff will be there.
Even the bills will stay behind.
Don't go packing up your fancies,
We ain't a pair of freaky Nancy's.
We're gonna find out what's down the road.
Come along with me and see...
Well, we're Sunday driving.
It's our way of hiding.
It's our way of surviving the week that's been.
The bed will still be there.
The lazy-making stuff will be there.
We're leaving the neighborhood behind.
The weather is "surprising."
It's perfect for this kind of driving.
The windshield looks just like a high def tv.
There's no place to be,
But right here - you and me.
There's no way in Hell I'd ever trade this in!
Come along with me and see...
Well, we're Sunday driving.
Everybody else is riding.
Everybody else is dying from the week that's been.
The work will still be there.
The crazy-making stuff will be there.
We're leaving the neighborhood behind - YAY!!!!

I love the way it builds up slowly - the hand claps and crappy tamborine sound really good. Enjoyed!

I think you really got the right feel of a "sunday drive" - really fun, easy listen. Was tappin' my feet the whole time - thanks1

Who'd have thought you could have so much fun with an E-string?
The harmonies are lovely and the lyrics well observed. And you nailed that tambourine ...

Sunday. I've got a song about Sunday up, too. How weird.
"Go pee before we're leaving." Love it.
Lou Reed would have Mo Tucker on this one.
Great stuff!

...but it's amazing how expressive the low E string of a guitar can just sing so beautifully on it's own...
Plus, you've even added some harmonics and a few extra strings, as well!
Love the background vox...
Cool tune, Mr. Bull...I love Sunday driving...part of who I am, too...
The lead at the end is a perfect fit...

The atmosphere is perfectly evoked; I think the minimal instrumentation suits the lyrical content nicely. The lyrics are alternately sweet and hilarious, and I love your vocal on this. It's Monday night now so I'm very far away from Sunday driving, but I wish I were in the car with nowhere to go! Nicely done. Peace.

What a gem. The harmonies are great, and i just love the simplicity of it all. Such a clean and well balanced production. The solo/outro works perfectly too.
downloaded and fav'd!
thanks for this!

thank you for the kind words! it's nice to know the song has appeal. i listen to it and often think, "this is just silly." you've made me rethink that, so thanks!!
