Description:
so for memorial day this is surly a song about memory again. i am not dieing but i have been thinking about it in a few ways. i hope this might be the end of this type of song for a while. it is also about some dreams i have been having.
this is a headphone mix for sure so best listened to with a good set. i use akg240 studio phones.

Lyrics:
i dreamed that i was starving
and i was sitting in the sand
you sat down beside me
on a 1000 acres of land
you told me we were married
and that everything was new
you told me to get ready
to do what i had to do

the only thing that matters
never quit reaches the sky
it digs in the earth
with every single birth
and it waits for you

and those trees in our backyard
against a back lit sky
they stand alone and wait
to catch anything that flies
some things are just so frightening
when you wake up from a dream
some things are ever changing
some damn things just stay the same

the only thing that matters
never quit reaches the sky
it digs in the earth
with every single birth
and it waits for you

i am just a boy from the midwest
got some habit
and a decent iq
i dont know why i do the things i do

so i am sitting here in my death bed
doing what i do
dream what i dream
and i am dreaming again about you

my mother and father before me
my sister and my best friend
you expect your parents to die before you
ya you expect to be there in the end

but to see a whole persons
life from beginning to end
like my sister
my only sister
my friend
my dear friend

ive seen my children appear as babies
i felt everything delight
and years and years much later
so glad they didn't buy into my fight
we grow you and you just keep growing
you flower at about 28
you have seed of your own
and seeds have been sown
my circle of life is complete

the only thing that matters
never quit reaches the sky
it digs in the earth
with every single birth
and waits for you

Great production as I've come to expect from you, and great poetry, again, as expected. I guess we all have different structures for the great unknowns and the little we think we know, but I never get tired of your constructions.

Cheers,

Joe.

Another great tune. As usual. The production this time is better than usual (though always great). The acoustic guitar sounds really clean.

You're Right &mdash 06/09/08 - 02:01:36 PM
Perfection happens and it is always full of mistakes. Maybe it's perfect that I'm here now and a mistake that it has taken me so long to get here.

I absolutely love this song, but I'm always swept away by your music. The musicianship is almost without compare here and, lyrically, you have such a gift. In this song, I especially love:

it digs in the earth
with every single birth
and waits for us

It's true and profound and beautifully oblique.

I so admire your work, Tim and I can only assume that you must work as a musician or have worked as one at some point in your life. I hope that's the case, because you are the real thing if I ever heard it.

Waking up from a dream &mdash 06/13/08 - 12:25:07 PM
Fine expression. A bit of a Moody Blues and Donovan in there. Very poetic. Easy on the cochlea and soul.

Flowering ... &mdash 07/16/08 - 12:58:02 PM
I must be a late bloomer - because I didn't start flowering until I hit 40 : >

I realize I run the risk of flippancy by opening my comments with a joke, but please don't take that offensively. You know from my comments on your previous song that I take your music seriously.

The series of recent deaths of family and friends have obviously shaken-up your life and they have put you into a retrospective mode. As you grapple with the big questions of life - and try to relate them to everyday existence - there doesn't seem to be an emergence of any clear cut philosophical solutions ... but to expect that is to miss the point of your recent works: it's not about solutions, rather - it's about the struggle. There are lightning flashes of insight shooting through the thundering angst, but they only illuminate the ruminations for a brief moment before the confusion of darkness moves back in.

This is why these songs are difficult to comment on. There's so much churning ... that it is difficult to hang on to any thought before it is swept away by the next smashing wave.

But I see that as the point - that is, if there is a point to be made - that you are expressing the human existential struggle of life against death in your music. It is raw ... it is emotional ... and it is personal. It also is insightful ... confusing ... and cathartic. This last thing, certainly, represents one of the more powerful aspects of making such art: it is therapeutic.

Flowering is beautiful. Who knew it could be so painful?

Hey Tim! &mdash 07/17/08 - 07:03:33 AM
I don't know how I missed this!

First off: The production as mentioned by just about every is really great. Clean, crisp in places, nice stereo work. And this is a killer deep song. Richly performed, deep with emotion.

It felt to me like during the phrase "a 1000 acres of land" that the guitar working in the left ear suddenly quit. Based on the pattern setup so far I expected to hear it. It gave the impression of a live performance where this person got lost for a second. In the next version "to catch anything that flies" the guitar works there. Just one observation. You probably intended this.

The vocals have a real intensity brought on not only by your tonal qualities but the sort of wavering harmonies really dig in. That is a nice effect!

The song has some really nice changes in it that keep you waiting for the next turn. The drums work nice throughout however I found the drum lead in odd during "I'm sitting here on my death bed". It made me wonder if the drum track was cut off. Perhaps after that lead in a cymbal crash!? Just thought.

I would like a little more of the guitar and piano at the end, it seemed almost like the bounce was cut off. The guitar and piano work so well, let us hear a few more bars.

Tim this is a great, deep emotional tune. Very nicely done! A fav for sure!!!
