Description:
The continuation and conclusion of the story.

All the radio samples and most of the weird sounds you hear are from 'The Conet Project' - actual recordings of of shortwave numbers stations. Read about it here:

Chronicles of a Dysphoric Translator:
Part IV. parasomnia
Part V. irrati0nals
Part VI. translation sub_rosa

Special thanks to Petra Borén for lending her voice to Part IV. parasomnia. Check out her website here: http://www.myspace.com/petraboren

Parts I-III are posted here at MacJams:

http://www.macjams.com/song/42255

..but have since been remixed a bit. They now have Conet samples rather than Apple text-speech samples. Send me a note if you'd like the updated version.

DISCLAIMER: This thing is 10 minutes long, so you may want to go to the bathroom before you listen.

Lyrics:
Part V. irrati0nals

These numbers cycle through my brain
I try to think them all away
They laugh at me and claim defeat
I will not give them victory

I scratch them onto these 4 walls
I try to decipher them all
No patterns, endless cycling
These numbers don't amount to anything!

Part VI. translation sub_rosa

My sentence has been served
And now I'm finally free
I got what I deserved
For failing them and me
and now that I am gone
Th3 number5 fa11 lik3 sn0w
Into my open mind
I've translated the code

But I'll never share
What I have just seen
and they'll never know because
I'm keeping this for me
for me
for me
f0r me

I have LOVED this series, and I love this. Your inventiveness here is just off the scales. Some of your most interesting work on MJ I think. Such cool ideas, such great music - basically, you ROCK!

oh yeah - and I agree Petra brought SO much to parasominia. that song was meant to be the main character's dream soundtrack, in which he's dreaming of heaven and angels. she's the perfect angel!

Great &mdash 05/30/08 - 12:15:20 AM
This has been such great creative project. I lot of thought went into these. It's been cool to see it progress from that first experiment. Keep up the awesome work man.

thanks for checking this out. i think i fooled a lot of people because the compositions themselves aren't that complex, but I've distracted you all from that with a bunch of neat sounds hehe

wow &mdash 05/30/08 - 08:23:56 AM
I don't know how you could have improved on the first installment of this series, but this is even better! Fabulous job. I seriously envy your mixing and production skills - and your creativity. This is great, alternative music, the kind of stuff I can only find on MacJams. Great work!

&mdash 05/30/08 - 12:21:28 PM
thanks kassia. not sure which installment I like best, but i'm leaning towards part VI because of the 'choir' backing my vocal. that was a lot of fun to do and i think it sounds pretty decent. Anyway I appreciate you taking 10 MINUTES(!) to listen to this and comment hehe. I'll have to check out your stuff today too.

something tells me &mdash 05/30/08 - 12:11:54 PM
that your going for a full CD on this series.

Pretty conceptual and neatly laid out in a abstract way. That's how I like 'em.

Seems to me this is the next evolution from where NiN & Radiohead should have gone but have yet to accomplish.

[ Reply to This ]
yeah &mdash 05/30/08 - 12:24:13 PM
I think I'm going to get it professionally mixed and release it as an EP. Do you think I should do more songs and go for a full length? I'm not sure where it could go from here yet...
Thanks so much for that last part of your comment. I'm quite humbled by it. Those are two of my favorite bands.

Massive &mdash 05/30/08 - 01:24:29 PM
great guitar as usual. I like the way you have put the voice into action with the chimes of a nursery rhyme, even though it is disturbing. Brilliant performance piece it has radiohead elements to this. Epic...

nursery rhyme &mdash 05/30/08 - 01:38:01 PM
thanks - yeah that little music box thing is called 'Swedish Rhapsody' and it was actually broadcast by the numbers station along with that voice reading the numbers (sampled from The Conet Project). Because it was Swedish I got Petra to sing over it, who is also Swedish. Worked out pretty good that way hehe. thanks for listening

this si a MASTERPIECE! I loved the first section and couldn't wait to hear this next part. I love the heavy metal guitars part, the angel singing, and ESPECIALLY the choir accompaniment at the end. i love it all! great job friend.

Just becoming acquainted with your music &mdash 05/30/08 - 06:52:46 PM
After someone in iComps compared me to you. After hearing this, that is very flattering. We do share a colouristic approach to guitar work and I look forward to learning more of your work.

This is a powerful piece &mdash 05/30/08 - 10:33:24 PM
A terrific combination of different elements, from the spooky radio samples, to the acoustic mid-section and the heavy guitar and then the lovely keyboard. Mind-blowing - what a great concept, and fantastic execution. The opening three minutes are mesmerizing and haunting, and when the acoustic kicks in, it's really effective - unexpected and stirring. Great vocal work, and great use of beats. I love the closing section, too - soft and charming. Overall, quite an achievement. Kudos, my friend. Peace.

thanks dajama! I appreciate the detailed review. i was unsure of the acoustic section because of the unexpectedness of it, but it just had to go there in terms of the concept. i'm glad you thought it fit. the last part's my favorite. Charming and vulnerable was what I was going for, so thanks for picking up on that.

Collage &mdash 06/01/08 - 11:09:50 AM
Interesting, this collage of sounds and musics. I'm not sure what the global thread is, but this particular 10 minute fragment is fun to listen to.

[ Reply to This ]
thread &mdash 06/01/08 - 01:20:07 PM
thanks; I guess the thread you're wondering about would be the numbers stations transmissions and the lyrics. Musically the first half (part I-III) flows a little better, but by design. This second half has a little more musical contrast. The whole thing's meant to be listened to as a whole. Makes more sense sonically that way. Thanks a lot for checking this out.

Interesting. Not sure what I am listening to. Random radio samples? I feel like an observer from the Outersphere monitoring Earth transmissions. Head trip.
