Description:
This song was specifically written for Mystified to sing and she smashed it out of the park! Thank you for doing a really beautiful job CAt!
Lyrics:
Blue Spark Sparrow
blue spark sparrow
melting wings of sugar cane
I’d love to fly my kite today
but there’s so much rain
in each drop a little message
secret musings of the sun
promising a kind of weather
for this tiny world made for one
in my brooding thoughts of you
black soaked rain clouds block my view
sun blind me quick, so I can’t see
all of the sparrows calling me
calling me
moon soaked cathederal
ginger bread fills the midnight square
I’d love to find my footing
but I’m floating in air
everything is so much different
from this place in the clouds
I can hear the rain on my tongue
and taste my voice aloud
in my brooding thoughts of you
black soaked rain clouds swallow my view
moon blind me quick, so I can’t see
all of these blue sparks cascading over me
over me

what a wonderful, wonderful collab. There's just nothing but good things to say about this song: lyrics, vocals by mysti; guitar, instrumentals, production. Spot on in all respects - THANKS! [ Reply to This ]

I thought I was hearing Karen Carpenter at first. It really sounds like her for sure to my ears at the start.
This is quite striking.
Way to go!

A Carpenter, yes! &mdash 06/02/08 - 03:39:14 PM
Karen Carpenter! That's a hefty compliment! I hadn't thought of that until you mentioned it, but I think she does sound like her.
Thanks for the big ears! (Symbolic big ears of course...) [ Reply to This ]

Very impressive singing and playing - almost celtic in parts to my ears but then what do I know
Cat and I are listening to this together in one world cafe Utah...I am hearing the vocal harmony that was left out of the mix

Thanks, B :) &mdash 06/02/08 - 02:17:02 AM
Those harmonies...they just keep popping up, don't they????
One World Cafe was a trip, wasn't it? Great fun! :D
(I'm looking forward to hearing the final coffee shop tunes all together, too!) [ Reply to This ]

..on all levels. Once in a great while you come across a song here that would be a million seller. here's this years top model!
excellent collab. [ Reply to This ]
What a million could buy... &mdash 06/02/08 - 03:41:39 PM
Thanks for the giant compliment!
One million seller would be nice, then I could buy my chocolate factory, import the oompa-loompa's and start wearing a funny purple coat and a top hat.... [ Reply to This ]

This is Cat's best vocal performance yet... Beautiful job. :) As Bill (Tiler) noted the early modulations immediately brought Karen Carpenter to mind, but then just lovely Cat glass tones.
Nice musical groove as well... with an unusual treatment of an old familiar genre.
Kudos to both of you. ;)

I'm always waiting for the Spike tune to arrive. What a great combo we have here? Ms. Cat and Sir Steve, this is an excellent song. I have to agree with J.A. Stewert that "this is Cat's best vocal performance so far" I've heard. Great, tasty music work from you as usual... Loved the key changes. Excellent production, crystal clear! Great work.
Take Care

...for the fabulous song to sing to :)
It was fun to see how this song progressed from the initial instrumental that I sang to--your 'final touches' painted this song in Spark'ling hues! [ Reply to This ]

yes this is some beautiful singing on this piece. a very nice tone on mysti's voice for this track. she seems to be really relaxed and really lost in the song. [ Reply to This ]

Tidbit tasting. &mdash 06/02/08 - 03:46:18 PM
That's very sweet! I'd even accept bad money in place of good. I'm just glad that there's a place (MacJams) where we can share these little tidbits! [ Reply to This ]

...I would say the song is about minute too long. Where and how it could be shortened I'll leave to you. I just seemed to lose a little interest in what was a fantastic piece.
Be cool,

I would agree with that. &mdash 06/02/08 - 03:49:32 PM
I know where it is.... The chorus repeat at the end. That's why I did a breakdown in the 2nd to last chorus. I actually could make that edit without too much trouble. I might try it.
I am the short song enthusiast, so this suggestion hits home. [ Reply to This ]

Wow!! &mdash 06/06/08 - 01:37:04 PM
Congrats on such a nice flowing, easy to digest song. Well done! I'm at work using my laptop to provide a musical backdrop over the constant drone of office background noise. And this song had the ability to cut through it all and to elicit a response: "Who is that playing? What radio station is that? Can you play it again?"
Congrats guys. I'm going to play the song again....this time, a little louder. [ Reply to This ]
Wow &mdash 06/07/08 - 05:28:50 AM
Great song and yes I'll go with the Karen Carpenter similarity on your vocals Cat. Gorgeous harmonies and I love the addition of iSpikes vocals.
Beautiful melody, arrangement and mix.

Sorry.... &mdash 06/08/08 - 10:41:30 AM
it's taken me so long to get around to listening to this fine song. Wonderful collaboration here... super high production values (of course, I expect no less). So nice to hear Cat sing something like this... and more un-needed evidence that she can easily master any style.
Steve- very strong song... you are a master in your own right.

I am afraid I just don't get the Karen Carpenter comparisons here. Cat doesn't sound anything like Karen on this.
I love the track, the way it is produced - it jumps out at me like it could have come from one of Bowie's mid-80's albums like Tonight or Never Let Me Down. Very smooth sound.
I would agree with a previous comment that this is perhaps a verse/chorus too long, but it is a wonderfully crafted production overall.
Bravo i-spike and mysti
