Description:
Here is sonicmagpie's contribution to the macjams coffee shop challenge.
This challenge just happened to coincide with bryn's visit to Utah this weekend to meet cat. So we decided to get out Cat's dusty old acoustic guitar and blaze through some of our greatest hits.
Here in all of their raw unplugged glory are some of sonicmagpie's finest moments and for the first time ever with NO production.
Played live with virtually no rehearsal time and recorded directly to an H4 digital recorder, exclusively for the macjams coffeehouse challenge, here is the sonicmagpie set live at Cat's Coffeeshop in Utah.
(Click song titles to hear original tracks)
1) The Summer Day - written by bryn and cat
2) Go To Sleep - written by David Griffiths
3) I Don't Know - written by bryn and cat (from the phoenix sessions)
4) Remember When - Leonids cover
5) Mount Saint Helens - written by michael2, bryn and cat

Awesome medley!
My favorite part, of course, is where Mysti says "Hi Mike!" (Just kidding...well...er...sort of...)
I love this. HOWEVER, I really think folks in the shop should have sat still and listened! If i had been there I'd have blasted offenders with straw covers and spit-wads!
A triumph you two!
Be well!

This is a great set! I enjoyed the entire 15 minutes. Is that a record length here on MJ? Definitely worth it.
Thanks for sharing.

please take it to the next level!? For us mortal;)). I presume Bryn is doing the guitar and the percussion and Cat the vocals. Well, the other way around would really be a shocker.hahahaha....Having said that, more on the songs. I love the feel to them, it shows you two are like in love with each other, well musically speaking. The horror!! Never mind that, ey Marlon!? The execution is so relaxed and fragile. Her voice is yum yum, even without a harmonizer. I liked the unison parts, I liked it all. I don't know is a fav of mine. All little treasures. Love the British accent. Hi 5! The turtle
Thanks for stopping by and taking a listen to our live set. You are right - me guitar, cat vox. Next time maybe Cat piano and me vox?? It was quite a trip relearning some of our back catalogue and then actually playing them together like this. Glad you liked (the accent and the music)

I expected top shelf but this is out of sight!
Thank you so much guys!!! Wish the coffee shop hadn't been sold out for this show... I tried to get tickets but they sold out in seconds...
I can hear why!

What a treat- thank you! :-) Realistic coffeehouse feel. I think the people should clink and chat between songs, not during them. But I understand you were going for how it usually is in a coffeehouse. I like the patter (Oh, my knee. --"Money?" ) Too funny! You sound great together, and I'm glad you got to meet and sing together in person. How cool!!! This is a great coffeehouse set! :-)

OK, I really was there... sipping the coffee, smirking at Bryn banging the guitar so he could ask for mo-ney, and enjoying the choice of music and fun unplugged performance. Mt. St. Helens was a perfect end-cap. Bravo/Brava!

Glad you enjoyed this set of songs!
It really was a lot of fun doing a quick-arrangement for acoustic recording (well, Bryn did all the work, there--I don't play the guitar!)
I certainly had a blast singing along :D
caroline

Wow - this is a treasure. The comment at the beginning of "that's my mic this is your mic" sets the tone. Free form, heartfelt, spontaneous, magical. This is such a treat. Thanks Cat and Bryn for this beautiful music.

Thanks so much for listening, commenting, and laughing along with us!
This was a lot of fun to do (though I think Bryn did most of the work in playing the guitar and singing along!).
While B and I do a LOT of production on most of our sonic_magpie songs, it was fun to 'unplug' this set and see how they fared w/out the effects.
Again, thanks for coming along for a listen!
(And thanks again, B!!)

Not only done live (to give a true coffee shop open mic) but well played and well sung. Really good recording, vibe and everything. Well done, thoroughly enjoyed, I'm there, clapping.
