This is going to be the title track on my next album. The concept of the song comes from the idea of imperfection making the whole of existence possible. A little quantum physics theory, a little philosophy, and love.

I added some elements and worked on the drums quite a bit too then
I made a few tweaks to levels, bass timing, and tone after getting some additional feedback. Let me know what you think. Surely will be tweaked just a little more for the final album release.

Thanks, everyone who commented on the previous version.

Lyrics:
I love the way that you hold me inside
In the depths I fall into a glint of light
Oh, this fracture captures you and I
Perfection never felt so right
It's the broken symmetry that fills the sky

I know a little something dark about you
And you know the places where I go all alone
And we forget about space in between
the things we know are not what they seem
It's never easy, though we hardly admit, to be true

And that truth is all we have
And the truth is all we have
We may give it all away but we always steal a little back

Rejoice... rejoice...
Every time we break
our Universe expands

Where we go there's a gravity pulling us in
And you, Love, are the place where it always begins
A Universe as big as we can see
as big as the space 'tween you and me
It would lose its whole identity without this broken symmetry

Rejoice... rejoice...
Every time we break
our Universe expands

Come with me and hold me in
until the ether cracks again
Come with me, let's fall apart
and carve our names upon the stars...

Oh, this fracture captures you and I
Perfection never felt so right
It's a bitter-sweet harmony
It's a friction that gives us heat
It's the broken symmetry that fills the sky
It's the broken symmetry that fills the sky
It's the broken symmetry that fills the sky

I have not heard the previous version yet, but this one is excellent on all levels, music and vocals, with a high quality in the execution and the production... It gives envy to discover your next album.
Congratulations and more, what a pleasure to hear you again Peter...

Triffic production. &mdash 06/03/08 - 09:01:30 AM
Has this got anything to do with String Theory ? Even if it doesn't I like it.
Good choon.

Years ago I remember reading something that used "broken symmetry" to describe a minute imbalance that could cause change on a sub-atomic level. It got me thinking about the condition that made it all possible from the Big Bang and keeps everything in motion and constant change, the removal of an infinitesimal piece of the whole, a crack in the perfect nothingness that turns it into everything we know. I found this basic concept applies on many levels to everyday life.

It's still a great song... &mdash 06/03/08 - 09:21:46 PM
I may be a curmudgeon, but I think I like the first mix better. I'll have to go listen again. This is definitely smoother, and it certainly gets a more natural guitar tone, which is what I usually like...But I don't think I go to Peter Greenstone for 'natural', necessarily...But something slightly to the left of natural...

This is one of my absolute favorites from you, this in all aspects: performance, recording, vocals and the superb lyrics. Wow! Put this on the radio stations right now, this is awesome. I am not just spitting sugar for the sweetness sake. Very good work. The opening guitar licks, the raw vocal, the bass sneaking in on you, the tambourine (perhaps)? And then, the refrain! The lyrics are very well written. I think almost everyone could read themselves into them some way or the other. Verse one is a killer. And the last la, la, la la is is the sweet dessert after this rather exclusive musical dinner. Thank you.

Offhand, I don't recall exactly all I did to the lead vox but I think I had a real subtle amount of very short echo on it. I also double the track, offsetting the dupe a millisecond and panning it. It gives it a bit of a surrounding space to it.
