Description:
A song that's not about what you think it is.

GB drum and bass loops. Everything else I performed.

lyrics by Sal Strangelove

Lyrics:
I've seen this lightning behind the clouds before
You shouldn't be here when the storm strikes ground
I know trouble when it's brewing right in front of me
It won't be pretty
These winds are strong
They've had time to churn
In waters all gone wrong
I tried to change, but it's been too long

Sleepwalk side-effects and insecurities
Are no match for this beautiful disease
It survives all the wrong remedies
Dose after dose
Because it breathes in me
It needs in me
Something to burn
Something to hurt
That's just how passion works

Slam the shutters and pack up all the glass
Pretend the darkness is just something that'll pass
I know you've got to feel like you've tried
But it's not that cut and dry
This rage is wide
It's had time to choke
On it's own pride
I tried to hold it in, or did I

(chorus)

I know you want to help but we both know
This life hasn't been mine in a long time
It's just a broken place
That I've embraced
So close the door and take your bag of tricks
I am not yours to fix

Sleepwalk side-effects and insecurities
Can't match this beautiful disease
It survives the wrong remedies
Dose after dose
It breathes in me
It needs in me

I've seen lightning behind the clouds before
You'd best not be here when it strikes ground

All right, where IS everyone?!?! &mdash 06/03/08 - 09:25:26 PM
This is a cool song, well played and sung...

Like the mandolin, if that's what it is, and the guitar, and I think you did a great job setting up the GB loops for a rhythm section that suits the song...

Gotta drum up some business 'round here...

Ed

Thanks for the rally Ejh &mdash 06/03/08 - 11:56:11 PM
It is an old Harmony mando that I bought for $99 USD in '72 or there abouts waiting for my bandmate to pick out a steel guitar and banjo. Can't really remember the year .. cause of course I was just a pup ;-)

Gonna add slide and harmony next, thanks for your support

Good Song &mdash 06/03/08 - 09:35:00 PM
I like the melody, arrangement and the playing is extra special.

A vocal harmony on the chorus would be nice, or even on the verses too.
This song has great potential for that addition. A dobro slide would be nice too. Send it to Allison Krauss.

Thanks to Ejh for putting the word out on this fine tune.

I've an old Silvertone lap steel I'll drag out and see what comes out of me.

My mando playing always takes me a little wood shedding to get something tuneful to flow. After an hour or two I usually come up with something tuneful.

Glad you enjoy this little tune.

tuneful? &mdash 06/04/08 - 05:32:20 PM
... don't know where that word came from but I obviously liked it being that I used it TWICE!! replace the second usage with "melodic" ... thanks ;-)

No Doubt &mdash 06/04/08 - 11:31:48 AM
This is my favorite kind of writing... very seasoned and subtle... I love it when you completely say the thing, without ever saying it... It has so much more power when you paint all around the subject, instead of just saying the thing... anyone can just say it...

the melody also hides your under current while still allowing it to peak through, in an almost resigned way... some great surprises in the melody...

very impessive writing

Scott, thank you &mdash 06/05/08 - 01:50:28 PM
This music just poured out of me, albeit a tad slower than this the final version. I was on the skype to the lyricist in moments with a rough draft.

As is my wont, I took the finished outline, speeding it up to juxtapose the weight of the words with a lighter, cheerier feel.

Thanks for calling this one out! It is a great tune!

Sometimes with so many posts on MJ I just miss stuff. I think it is cool when someone like yourself makes sure a tune does not go un-noticed!

Really cool tuneage man! I LOVE it. The mandolin playing reminds me of Jimmy Ryan.

Where you been hidin' the past couple of years sir? I missed you!

Be well friend!
