Description:
One to many on a Sunday afternoon.
Help!! Mix with monitors sounds pretty good, same with headphones. Download and sounds like ......this. Any ideas?
Lyrics:
All I had to do was wake up this morning
and I knew you'd have something to say;
Been livin' this way of life too long,
now my hair has a touch of gray.
Never seemed to find the peace
just a partnership made in hell.
Sure never thought it would end this way.
But at least I got a story to tell.
CHORUS
The sky is blue but your'e feelin' rain
cuz misery knows you by your first name;
got to leave before I go insane.
But that's alright
yeah that's alright today.
The grass is greener on the other side
that's what other people say.
Gonna go ahead and jump the fence
take a little roll in the hay.
Tired of playing these crazy games
that last from morning till night.
Gotta go back and find the peace
that I had in another life.
REPEAT CHORUS
Smell the coffee on a Sunday morning
just kickin' back in my chair;
got no worries to think about
if I did I wouldn't care.
Found somethin' that's been really lackin'
for way too many years
not walkin' on eggshells anymore
like I did when you were here.
REPEAT CHORUS

... excellent guitar work and guitar sound - can't really offer any advice on the 'sound' otherwise as I'm listening through the iMac speakers - the fade is a bit abrupt though. Is it that the MP3 sounds wildly different to the original file?

Thanks for the listen &mdash 06/04/08 - 07:28:46 PM
And the compliments. Yes the problem is that the original file sounds pretty good, much better than what you listend to. This is not a problem when I do Acoustic. Like I was telling Dee, I just have to work at this recording stuff some more, just very aggrivating. Anyhow, Thanks again for stopping by Peter.

That's alright &mdash 06/06/08 - 04:18:22 AM
Hi Russ - great electric work out with some fine lead guitar cutting through. I agree with earlier comments that maybe it's a bit light on the bass. I wondered if your MP3 file was over compressed but it's quite a big download so I guess that's not the problem. Does the MP3 file sound good on your speakers? If so then it must be the uploading that's doing the damage.
All the best

Sounds &mdash 06/06/08 - 04:30:42 PM
fine to me, but the rock experts here have the final say. Good lyrics, vocal and drums and I think the lead guitar sounds really great. I too hear a difference from my recording to when I upload, so maybe it's just one of those things, but Its been better for me since I started mixing through headphones straight into the Mac, cheers M [ Reply to This ]
Thanks &mdash 06/07/08 - 02:55:38 PM
for your kind words and advice. I like headphones as well, even though most folks say stay away for mixing. But thanks for the listen.

Very cool &mdash 06/07/08 - 03:44:24 PM
If this is the result of one too many, I'd say have a few more and keep rockin'! This is a very cool rockin' song. The lead fills are absolutely perfect, great sound and the solo is excellent. The bass thing has been mentioned, and I'd second that. But overall, it has a good sound, I think. I wish I could give you some concrete advice on getting the sound you want, but I'm afraid my approach is very much hit and miss. Great track. Thanks for sharing. Nicely done. Peace. for listening. I am getting over it slowly. As I have said, this recording stuff is pretty new to me and I have so much to learn. But thanks for your kind words and advice.

very cool &mdash 06/07/08 - 07:06:00 PM
The bass, guitar and drums sound good in the mix.. THe only thing that sounds off to me is the vocals.. To me the vocals can be the biggest problem. Overall a really killer song lots of cool riffin Excellent thanks for sharing!!!!! [ Reply to This ]

Good stuff! &mdash 06/08/08 - 11:58:34 AM
Love that guitar sound Russ. Some smoking chops and riffs there!
I also feel the bass needs to come a tad forward in the mix. Indeed, even those fabulous drums could be a bit louder.
Singing is just fine but seems a little "dry" against the rest of the mix. Perhaps a hint of reverb would help here?
Listening to this makes me curious as to how you have placed the instruments on your screen. You using GB or Logic maybe?
Anyway, all in all, this is one fine rockin bit of tuneage sir!

NO, This recording stuff is new to me. All I am using now is a eight track (BR900). One of the reasons I came to MJs is soon I hope to upgrade in the recording department. I am getting so much great help and info from others on what there likes and dislikes are as far as recording, big help.
Anyhow thanks for the kind words and advice.

Tom Petty on hard rock high octane... which is good. As Feter says a little more bass, but a minor nit.

Rockin' &mdash 06/09/08 - 07:02:27 AM
great balls of fire this is great.....I get shades of Tony Iommi and Sasbbathesque licks woven into a really listenable song..the production sounds fine to me, especially given the limitations of MP3 format and what it does to the original.Just lately I have started to do more than one "take" of the MP3 and tweak the mix to see if I can coax a more WAV like sound.......but it does get tedious.I do think that maybe the real problem is that we ,certainly I have to accept that playing/producing is not a happy mix(sorry)and that we prefer one art form to the other.Still ,great song enjoyed and D/Ld. Thanks bud &mdash 06/09/08 - 06:48:33 PM
for the kind words. For sure I am finding I spend far more time than I would like listening and mixing rather than playing. But It's the price I am willing to pay to be able to write and record my own music on my terms.
Thanks for stopping by and the listen.

how do you get &mdash 06/10/08 - 07:30:49 AM
that guitar sound,- it's absolutely wonderful. Great song as well, it has all the parts it needs to be a classic rocker. Keep up the good work.

Good guitar sound. Is there a bass on this track? Some rumbling down below is dearly needed. [ Reply to This ]
no bass &mdash 06/10/08 - 05:19:28 PM
I worked on it again and again nothing difficult but wasent working. So that's why I ask for help with this recording stuff. The only reason I put this song up was for advice And the kind folks at MJs have responded big time.

tsada &mdash 06/18/08 - 07:15:46 AM
no contest, guitar works well, (by the way,if you don't mind, is this song about real life experience? who is she/he anyway?) vocals, without the aid of lyrics, is a challenge. To boast bass, never record any track more than half the volume line, so that you can have enough room to increase the track volume you want on the final mix. Or you can use the equalizer function on mastering. Thanks for sharing. [ Reply to This ]
