Description:
Fulvio Romano has become a musician brother to me across the pond between me in Chicago and he in Brindisi, Italy. He has immense writing, arrangement and of course performance talents.
He wrote this song and asked me to write some lyrics. He said the song felt to him like a nostalgic look at getting past the days of our youth but still feeling every bit as rebel rockers that we have tried to be all these years.
So here is "Old Boyz", the creation of my cugino Fulvio, with some words and spices added to the sauce by me.
You will hear a beautiful piece of wood and strings hand crafted by Fulvio's luthier - a PRS style custom made to sing in Fulvio's hands here.
The cover art is indeed a photo of Mr. Romano from his racing days. I was going to add a picture of me at 21 but because I am much more handsome I did not want to take the stage from my slightly older brother or he might beat me up. ;>
Fromano : Music, lead vocals, backing vocals, all instruments, production and mix.
BossHook : Lyrics, lead vocals, backing vocals.

Lyrics:
We were young once
Played the world with the strings in our hands
Never feeling it could ever end
Fulvio
We were young once
all our days were made of rock and roll
stolen kisses before the show
John - Fulvio
Now those days are gone
They won’t be left unsung
‘Cause old boys like you and me
Keep the memories alive and free
John
We still dream big
But we know that the real world is cruel
We still suffer all those doubt filled fools
John - Fulvio
And in the days to come
The Father’s Will be done
Cause old boys like you and me
Keep our hopes and dreams alive and free
Fulvio
But when the lights go dim and it’s time for heading home
we drive throught the night to a place we used to go
Funny how the years can change your face so much
without changing the way you feel when she holds you tight
John - Fulvio
So come on, brother
Shake it loose and let me see your soul
You ain’t too far gone to make it rock ‘n’ roll
Yes I can make you dance
I can still take you to that special place
Where the guitars romance and the drummer takes a chance
On taking you to the special place
And though the days are gone
They won’t be left unsung
‘Cause old boys like you and me
Keep the memories alive and free
But when the lights go dim and it’s time for heading home
we feel that every day we’ve spent hasn’t been lost
we still got so much to say to this deaf world
so let’s pick up our guitars
let the show go on
Guitar solo out
And though the days are gone
They won’t be left unsung
‘Cause old boys like you and me
Keep the memories alive and free

Thanks, Boss &mdash 06/04/08 - 02:26:10 PM
My brother John has a lot of good qualities, but one of them (modesty) sometimes pushes him to minimize his role, hehe.
The truth is : I had some chords and riffs, enough to make a decent backtrack, maybe.. then he took that embryonal work and transformed it into a real song. Sic et simpliciter, as romans would put it.
He is a gifted songwriter, musician and singer, and a very, very good man, and I'm honored to be considered a friend by him.
Thank you for your comments and kind words, mates.

I notice the pic did not load up there, but trust me it showed Fulvio when he was about to do something sinister and fun. [ Reply to This ]
Hey John &mdash 06/05/08 - 10:23:25 AM
yes no doubt Fulvio is a class act all around... I love it when I can identify your sound... if I was walking through a store or driving... I would recognise you here...
excellent writing job... subject a bit to close from this view.. a great emotional lift after Fulvio's section "when the lights go dim" nice vocal both of you ... no better than nice... really spot on pitch and emotion... the later more important... espesially on a song with this content...

Man... You got it all goin on and, right, here! This is really a deeply soulful piece of goodness. It just made me feel good inside and out.
A mighty fine piece of music! A great addition to, well..., this would just make anything all better.
Thanks for bringing it, John. And another fat thanks for letting us take it with us. Macca [ Reply to This ]

Beautiful song &mdash 07/21/08 - 07:28:54 PM
Production writing and performance are all very good. This is a moving song. I enjoyed my listen very much. I could be warmer though, I found the mix digitally crisp, and the vocal was a little on the dry side at times. Great tune, you Old boyz should be proud of this. [ Reply to This ]
