Jesus (84)Promise (5)Rainbow (5)
Description:
This is the first song I ever wrote, but I thought I'd lost it until just recently when I found a copy hidden away in a drawer. All I had was the lyrics left, but that was good enough since I remembered how it went.

I've been working on this new arrangement for about a month now and I'm tired of listening to it so I thought I'd post it to get some comments or suggestions as to how I might improve it.

Hope you enjoy what I have so far, but if not tell me why.

Thanks for listening

Ed

Verse 1

When ever dark clouds fill your sky
And it rains the whole day through
When you feel you want to cry
Here's what to do

Look for the Rainbow, Look for the Rainbow
And remember God's promises to you
In your life you will know sorrow
In your life you will know pain
But remember Jesus promised
That he would come again

When you're tempted into sin
And you hate the things your do
When you feel you've lost control
Here's what to do

And remember God's promises to you
In your life you will know trouble
In your life your sure to fall

Thanks Feter &mdash 06/09/08 - 03:13:29 PM
Feter is first again, amazing how you do that my friend.

Glad you liked this song and dropped me a line to send along your comments. I've never been much of a church person, but I've always believed in God and the power he has in our lives.

This song was done at a particularly difficult time in my life after I was reminded by a friend that we are never really alone in this world. I got to thinking about the promises Jesus made to all of us and this song is the results of that recollection.

Thanks again for taking time to listen Feter, and for the comments.

Be well my friend and stay cool.

Ed

Thank you Mark, &mdash 06/09/08 - 03:27:04 PM
that's the kindest thing anyone could say about one of my songs, but especially about this one.

This one comes out of a life experience and the lessons I learned from it. I had lost the song for about 25 years but then found the lyrics for it last month and decided to make a new version. On several levels I'm really glad I did, some of which are very personal.

Thanks again for dropping in and listening to this song Mark, and for the wonderful comment. I'm really glad you liked it.

Take care, be well, and stay cool my friend,

Ed

Beautiful Hymn &mdash 06/09/08 - 08:50:31 PM
...musically, this reminds me of 'Sunday Morning Coming Down', although that one was much sadder. There is a genuine feel of something subtle, unseen and uplifting here, and that wonderful voice of yours carries it like a life-scarred memory from long ago that sweetens with time.

The only suggestion that crosses my mind is a church choir joining in with you... but something this gentle really doesn't need much wonking. Lovely song, Ed.

Thanks Rik &mdash 06/09/08 - 10:53:51 PM
Well this is a very personal song for me Rik. I wrote this while on a weekend retreat I went to with the church I was attending at the time. I had been going through a lot and the retreat was just what I needed.

While I was there, This song just came to me out of the blue. Since I had an acoustic guitar with me I wrote it down and then share it with the rest of the group. It really touched me spiritually when I did that , to the point I almost didn't make it through the song. I did notice that it also touched many in the group as well.

A few years later, I misplaced the song and didn't find it until last month. So after 25 or so years I decided to make a complete version of it to share with the world at large.

Thanks again for the kind words Rik, and for listening to it. I'm really pleased you liked it. It's really a song about hope and faith and we can all use a little of that.

Take care, be well, and stay cool my friend,

Ed

Very nice &mdash 06/11/08 - 08:28:07 PM
Your vocal on this is great - filled with warmth and I think the expressiveness of experience and life. Some nice changes here, too. As far as what could be changed here, I would perhaps cut down on the drum fills. To my ear, there are a couple too many and some of them kind of cut into the very nice vibe of the song, rather than complement it. I would also bring the guitar up a little in the mix, but again, that's just my taste. These are minor things. The song's the thing, and this is a great song. Nicely done, and thanks for sharing this with us. Peace.

Thanks Dave &mdash 06/11/08 - 10:22:14 PM
I appreciate the comments, especially about the drums and guitar parts. I may go in for another mix after I get some other projects out of the way and make some adjustments. I tend to go a little overboard on the drums sometimes, and my hearing loss makes it hard to know when I've go the guitar setting right in the mix.

Thanks for the kind words and comments my friend, I'm glad you liked the song and let me know.

Take care, be well, and stay cool Dave.

If I try to compare myself with some of the guys and gals here on MacJams, I really am hanging on by my fingernails. There are some very, very good musicians and artist here that far surpass anything I can do.

But for me, at this stage in life, I'm just here to have some fun, listen to some good sounds, and share what I can with the folks that will listen.

I'm very please by your comments Italo, and I thank you again for your kind words. They, and you, are appreciated very much.

Take care, Stay well, and be cool my friend

Ed

Thank you Char &mdash 07/24/08 - 11:45:48 PM
I was really happy when I found this one again after all these years. I'd written it while on a retreat in 1982 and it had a very special meaning to myself and all the other people there when I first sang it for them.

Now I can share it with any and all that want to listen, which is a good thing. There's another mix that is just an acoustic mix with bass, acoustic guitar and mandolin. You might like it even better than this one and it's posted on my artists page too. It has some crowd noise and such in the very beginning and at the end because it was done for the Coffee House challenge that was going on here on MJ earlier in the month, but that doesn't interfer with the actual song.

Anyway, thanks again for dropping in and listening Char, it is very much appreciated,

Take care, and be cool my friend,

Ed
