Description:
It's late in the evening. The crowd is thinning out. A few couples sitting at tables here and there. And this one old folkie in the corner sipping on expresso... He looks in the mood for a little acoustic melancholy with his coffee...
A vocal/acoustic guitar blues song for the MJ Coffee House.
Lyrics:
Verse 1:
Yesterday won't go away
Still sitting here with me
The absence of her love
Weighs heavily
How can I understand
I don't think I can
Hoping for some light
But yesterday won't go away
Refrain:
Feels like I'm falling down
Like rain I just hit the ground
Can't seem to find my way through
My heart's all in a bind
Yet I hope some peace to find
But yesterday won't go away
Verse 2:
The days slowly passing
I lie awake at night
The quiet echoes softly
The stillness sheds no light
And if she were here
She'd whisper sweetly in my ear,
"Darling, you got to be strong"
But yesterday won't go away.
Refrain:
Feels like I'm falling down
Like rain I just hit the ground
Can't seem to find my way through
My heart's all in a bind
Yet I hope some peace to find
But yesterday won't go away

Enjoy the music and the coffee.

I love the folksy style and the chords in this, Jack. Perfect song to wind down a coffeehouse evening. Also sweet to listen to while sippin my morning coffee. :-) [ Reply to This ]
the chords.... &mdash 06/10/08 - 12:20:39 PM
Most times, as in this song, chords and a melody come to me first. The B7, A7, and E7 (at the end) really added to this to give it some variation. I kind just happened into it. A pleasant happening. Thanks R-L, glad you like it.

Bob, I guess yesterdays never really do go away... at least not completely. And that's good I suppose. The sum total of the yesterdays, and how we responded to them, makes us who we are today.
Glad you like the chord changes. It's nice when a few simple chords can evoke a mood.
thanks,

Basic and simple &mdash 06/12/08 - 09:00:20 PM
but very effective my friend. Nice mix, great vocal, heartfelt lyrics, and a very good sounding guitar laying down the backup for the song.
It doesn't get much better than this Jack, excellent track. Kudos

I like this simple mix... obviously, but as I listen I do hear a possible simple bass, a light Hammond organ (with some higher register notes held here and there), and a couple female backups softly singing in a few choice places.... Am I crazy?
Thanks,
Jack

Acoustic &mdash 06/29/08 - 08:13:40 PM
Love your acoustic guitar work. Reminds me of Bread, and of Gordon Lightfoot. Your voice is clear and invites attention.
I saw all your pix just now on your artist page. I saw a guitar with a round back. I think I have one just like that! It's an Applause six-string acoustic, which I bought in 1982. Is yours the same kind? I'll bet it is.
A very good track. I enjoyed it.

Applause.... &mdash 06/29/08 - 09:18:31 PM
Thanks John. Yes that is a round back Applause that I bought in 1980 (fiberglass neck with aluminum frets). The most durable, never-goes-out-of-tune guitar ever. In the video I am playing a recently purchased Applause/Ovation shallow back acoustic electric (beautiful guitar). I love it.
Thanks for chiming in... very appreciative!
