Keywords:
Sunrise (15)RG Paddler (44)
Description:
I started going to out to watch the sunrise on the morning of June 21st every year since I was about 15 years old and sometimes I've got it wrong and set out on the wrong night or its been so misty or raining there was no sunrise.

At any rate - the times when its been successful have extraordinarily moving. Its usually been some sort of battle to get there too and this bit of music is supposed to somehow metaphorically describe that journey of going through darkness and danger and sometimes slightly ethereal or cosmic hoops in life just to witness a show that after all happens each and every morning and the tickets are free!

Lyrics:
Journey To A Sunrise

This Is The Room Of The World..
The Blue Of The Ocean
The Blue Of The Sky...

Drift Upon The Movement
Chase The Rising Sun
No-one Sees You Now
As You Begin To Burn

Our Home Is Nowhere
We Spin Thru Time & Space
The Dreams Are Endless
The Sphere Is Turning Round

With A Single Motion
We Turn From North To South
Take One Direction
And Watch The Mountains Rise And Fall Below

I'm Walking By A Silver Stream
There Are Stepping Stones To Cross
Will I Reach The Other Side And Meet You There?
I Know I'll Meet You There

The Last Time I Recall
When The Sun Was Dancing With The Stars
Was When I Had To Fall
Back On Tales Of An Infant Child
Somwehere Back In Storyland
He Plays There Still
In The Castles Of The King
On The Dragons Of The Wind
Rolling Over And Over
In Fields Of The Dawn

A bit of an epic &mdash 06/11/08 - 05:43:32 AM
Bucolic. I like that word.

This is full of hope and fun.

A welcome break from the reality of work.

Very nicely arranged, played and put together.

Something different once again.

Cheers

Dick

What a &mdash 06/11/08 - 08:18:58 AM
fantastic composition this is; full of sunlight ,spangles, magic, fantasy and more. It should come with a Disney-like video. Wonderful imagery with a touch of Mr. Bluesky feel (ELO). You're very artistically minded it's obvious and you manage to get it all into a great musical piece. Your voice too is ideal for this kind of work. It's on a par with my other favourite of yours, 'The Old Fortune Teller,' cheers M

Thats very perceptive Maurice - i wrote it at about the same time as that fortune teller song - its the 'yes' influence kicking in again - why tell as story in 4 minutes when you can spint it into 25 - although it can go on a bit - thank you indeed

like a collision between Mike Oldfield's bicycle and Genesis' soapcart on that darkened dangerous road to the solstice and then they pick themselves up and groove out as the sun comes up........what sort of mushroom was they!!??cos Patrick Moraz is in there too!!Quite excellent dude...........

lol what a fantastic analogy - I dont know what a soapcart is but I'm sure genesis wouldve travelled on one lol.Liberty cap i expect - my mate tried fly agaric soup once and was ill for about 3 days - lucky he wasn't dead.Patrick Moraz plays amazingly on 'Soundchaser' - I think it is - i could be wrong what wiv my bad memory..
Thanks

Proggy epic &mdash 06/11/08 - 04:09:40 PM
I'm always impressed with your musical and lyrical imagination.

I like the last vocal section the best ... lovely harmonies.

I'm also impressed you've made a regular ritual of the solstice sunrise. I'm not good with early mornings and I only ever once managed to get up for it. It was at the Avebury stone circle and it was so murky and grey I couldn't see anything and it was bloody freezing. Met a few friendly druids though.

Now, getting up for the *winter* solstice would take some doing ...

It can be a lot of fun even in the rain - if u cant see the sunrise - you can just forget that bit and get rat-arsed instead.Went swimmin in winderemere last october that was pretty cold. Thanks Rebs

Epic alright &mdash 06/11/08 - 07:36:03 PM
I'm envious of your ability to make music sound this good. Sheesh, this is just a joy to listen to from start to end. Listening, I'm reminded of Gentle Giant and Yes at times, but there's so much more that, I guess, just sounds like you. I love the drama, and the energy and color of it, the big changes, and the lyrics (and I rarely pay attention to lyrics). Awesome work, paddler.

What wonderful comments - I know yes well but gentle giant is something i avent heard since i was an art student and me mate used to have all their vinyl - I shall listen out for them - thanks i was worried the changes were too choppy but hopefully theres a slight blur - i was trying to replicate a ropey original version of it i ad copied onto minidisk from analogue tape and realised there is a bit of a theme runnin through connecting each section so they are kinda related which makes me feel better..Thank you!

Magnificent &mdash 06/11/08 - 08:21:25 PM
Epic in the best sense of the world. I like the keyboards throughout, and the guitar sounds great. The vocal section is terrific, with great imagery and some really evocative lines. Bit of a James Earl Jones vibe going on there on that opening line! A great, ambitious track that you pull off with aplomb. Kudos. Nicely done. Peace.

I really like this Song &mdash 06/15/08 - 03:51:56 AM
The music is lovely to listen to (I am never disappointed by your tracks). The music really sets a brilliant scene for what you describe. Incredible prog rock track, well done for making such a sustained track that keeps the interest. I too celebrate the midsummer as well as the midwinter, and sunrises are always spectacular what ever the time of year. The best sunrises for me have been camping in the wilderness or at festivals.

Epic &mdash 06/15/08 - 07:40:53 AM
Starting kind of Jethro Tull sound then moving to a Rick Wakeman or Tony Banks keyboard section. As you round in to the vocal the whole is definitely Paddler! You show most of your musical range on just this one piece. Amazing stuff.

Thanks
Bill

Wow &mdash 06/16/08 - 08:23:38 AM
I love the mix of synthed sounds with the more organic tones of the whistle (recorder?), guitar, strings and piano. Listening to this was a great way to spend 15 minutes of my lunch hour at work! So many changes and you never know what's coming next. The "I'm walking by a silver stream..." section was sublime. I can't even start to work out how you can get this degree of variation into one piece.
I%u2019m stunned!
All the best
Steve

You HAVE been busy! &mdash 06/17/08 - 09:02:24 AM
Great Rich. I especially love the medieval bit in the middle. Here in the land of the rising sun they don't worry about dawn too much. Strange, eh?
Nice poem, too.
All the best,
The other Rich

Medieval bit.. &mdash 06/17/08 - 09:25:55 AM
Beg pardon. It was near the beginning. I hadn't checked how long your masterpiece was going to be. Had just popped in for a drink and stayed for dinner, as it were.
Glad I did; most filling.

Brilliant! &mdash 06/17/08 - 10:29:47 AM
What a fabulous array of sounds! Reminds me a little of Ian Anderson's "The Jasmine Corridor," only this is actually BETTER!

Well done and bravo Richard!

Take care!
