Description:
This is a song I originally wrote and recorded in 1993. It's kind of the musicians lament sort of and it was fun writing the lyric. Originally it was done as more of a Country song, but I've redone it and added a little bit of Funk to it.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making the new version.
Thanks for listening.

Lyrics:
Lord, Lord, Lord, Give Me A BreakWords, Music and Arrangement By Edward C. Wemmerus Sr.
Copyright © April 1, 1993: Edward C. Wemmerus Sr. All Rights Reserved
Verse 1
Standin' on the bandstand tryin' to sing a funky song
When this ugly guy comes up to me and grabs my microphone
Sayin', Hey there Mr. Guitar Man, can I sing along.
There ain't nothin' I like better than to sing a funky song
Chorus
I Said, Lord, Lord, Lord, Give me a break ,
Yes there is a limit, to how much I can take
I don't have the inclination, --- To accept your invitation
I said, Lord, Lord, Lord, give me a break,
There's a limit to how much I can take
Verse 2
Talkin' to my manager, told him to get real
He said, you know you can trust me Son, this is quite a deal
Despite his reassurances, I got a different feel
cause the contract that he handed me gave him the right to steal
Chorus
Instrumental Bridge ( 1 verse and chorus )
Verse 3
Talkin' to my Congressman, after he had won
To ask about his promises, and what he said was, Son
If you could make a contribution to my private fund
Maybe we can find a way, to see that it gets done
Chorus

That's a funny song. Well done. All instruments played great.
That's a pretty freaky effect or effects on the guitar solo!

Glad you liked the song my new friend. It was meant to be done in front of a live audience and was at one time. I used to do it as part of my act and it always got a lot of hoots and hollers from the musicians in the crowd, although the local Congressman didn't seem to think it was very funny. Can you imagine that?
Thanks again for dropping in and having a listen Relic, and for the kind words.
Take care, be well and stay cool man.

Glad you came by for another visit and listened to the band do it's thing. lol
It was a fun song for me to redo. I always liked the lyrics but I was never happy with the original tracks behind the vocal. Since I didn't have the master I had to completely redo it so I made it into a Funk-Rock song instead of the a Country version like it used to be.
Thanks for listening and the kind words Mark, glad you liked it.
Be well my friend,
Ed

I've always loved doing this kind of music, and it's just now that I'm getting back to it after 35 or 40 years. It's a lot of fun for me, and I hope for all my friends it's just as much fun listening to it.
Thanks again for the kind words Feter and for dropping in to listen, it is very much appreciated.
Take care, stay well, and be cool my friend,

One thing's for sure, you don't need my "skills" but thanks for indulging me anyway :-)
Great lyrics. Brings back a few memories.
Funk out man!

but most of my skills are in the past. What I might have retained from years gone by is what knowledge I gained about mixing sounds. And it seems the more I do it the better it gets. No surprise there though because that's the way we all learn this stuff is by doing and listening to the comments of our peers.
The difference between me and you is that You can still play that kind of stuff, and I just fake it, so thank you for indulging me would be more appropriate. (:-P)
Glad you like the song Dick and sent along some kind words, you're Aces my friend.
Take care and be cool.

Love the lyrics; I bet this would be a cool song to see live. Funny and wry with a perfect deadpan delivery. Add to that the lovely bass - really nice bass sound, by the way - and the funky guitar, and you have a class song. This is very cool. Nicely done, my friend. Peace.

About doing this one live, I used to do it as part of my act, but I can tell you right now, it never sounded this good or this funky. It was originally a country song, but not any more.
Anyway thanks for coming over and listening and for the kind words David, it is appreciated.
Be cool my friend,
Ed

it's in there... but man, this is really an excellent song with tongue in cheek humor. Loved the guitar solo. Fine vocal... all around cool tune, Ed.

I don't now if there's a genre called Country-Funk, but I guess there is now. I wonder if it'll catch on? Now that I think of it this puts me in mind of something maybe Travis Tritt would do.
Glad you stopped in and listened Adam and that you liked the song. I hope it brought a smile to your face when you listened to it. Thanks again for the kind words my friend.
Take care, stay well, and be cool,
Ed
My original comment didn't make it through!!! Glad I came back!
Thoroughly funkadelic tuneage! Lyrics are both amusing and clever.
Well played, well sung, and well produced Ed. This one is radio worthy!
LOOOOOVE that whacked guitar solo!
Be well friend!

Ya know, I usually have the opposite problem. I sometimes end up posting my comment and/or responses twice. I call it a senior moment when I do it Micheal, how about you? lol
When I first did this song in public in 1993, it was a Country song. I was never really happy with the back tracks on it so when I decided to redo it I wanted it to have a little funkier flavor. I think I got it right this time.
Thanks again for coming by and having a listen my friend. I'm really happy you liked this one, and sent along the kind words about it.
Take care, stay well, and by all means be cool.

I just read your blog and it was really interesting finding out about all three of you. Nice to finally get to know who you really are Jack.
Tell Terry I know what he's going through, losing his wife like that. The same thing happened to me about 12 years ago. Pass along this to him if you will. You never get over it but you do get better. Time is the answer, it just takes time.
Thanks again for the kind word Jack, I really do appreciate them. Glad you enjoyed the song and maybe got a chuckle out of the lyrics.
Take care, stay well, and Be cool my friend,

...ox of cherry bombs, when you're a musician.
Cool song, nice solo. I think you could turn the vocals up just a tad.

I like where your comment was going, even if it did end up someplace else.
Glad you liked the song Vic and that you sent along the great comments. I may have to revisit this one and up the vox a bit, but I'm gonna let it rest for a while first. I agree with what you say about the vox, but being a bit deaf it's sometimes hard for me to judge when it's exactly where it needs to be.
Thanks again for the heads up on the vox Vic, it is very much appreciated.
Take care, stay well, and be cool my friend

Like we don't have enough genre now, I have to go and invent a new one called Country-Funk. What's up with that?
Glad you came by and had a listen David and liked the song. It was a lot of fun putting down the tracks for this one, I was really getting in to it.
Thanks again for dropping in and for the kind words my friend. Be well stay cool and take care,

Glad you enjoyed the song. It was originally a Country song I used to do in my act, but this time I wanted it to have more energy. That guitar part is a big part of the new song's energy and drive.
Thanks a lot for dropping in and listening, and for the kind words. Much appreciated.

At the beginning, I was thinking this had a strong Doors vibe. This is really cool, and I really really like the guitar leads. Nice singing, excellent song overall.

This was more fun to redo than any man should be allowed to have with his clothes on. Of all the old songs I've posted this is the first time I did a completely new style on one and is a total remake. The original was a kind of Country-Rock song, but this one has a lot more energy and drive to it, which makes me very happy indeed.
I'm also happy to hear that you really like it my friend and it's nice of you to pass along the great comments about it. Much appreciated.
Thanks again for stopping for a listen and the kind words Dave.
Be well and stay cool man,

You amaze me. You are great at country singing and now funky too? Wow. What can't you do? Lol. This is a fun song and I really enjoyed it. You have a great voice and tons of talent. Always a pleasure to listen to you!!

I'm not sure were the limit of what I'll try to do is, or if there even is a limit. That doesn't mean they'll all be good though, but this time I think it came out pretty fair.
I used to do this in my act back in the 90s, but it was a Country song back then. Since I didn't have the original recordings of it anymore, and the fact I was never all that happy with that version, I decided to have some funk with this one. What a blast it is to redo one like this and just go nuts doing it.
Anyway, thanks again for the kind words Gail, and for listening, it is very much appreciated.
Take care, stay well and always, be cool,

That guitar solo comes from outer space! LOVE IT! It jumps at me especially after the laid back style of the verse/chorus. Those parts reminded me of when Clapton was going through his Don Williams phase. Well done!
sloparts
Surprise ! Betcha didn't see that one coming.
This was an old Country song I used to do in my act years ago. Of course it didn't sound like this back then, but it used to get a laugh from the crowd, especially if I started playing it when some Cowboy with a few too many started trying to get up on the stage. Funny thing is that after a while, once the bouncers got use to my band, they start looking to the stage whenever I'd play this to see if they were needed. That was pretty funny, getting the bouncers trained like that.
Anyway enough old war stories. Thanks again for dropping in and listening Eric. I'm glad you liked the song and sent along some kind words for it.
Be well and be cool my friend,
Ed
