80s (27)New Wave (19)Live Aid (1) ()
Description:
While very few in the U.S. may remember them, back in the early 80s the band New Orchestral Seagulls in the Mode swept across most of the rest of the world. They sold out shows all across Belgium, had more number one hits to date than any other group on the charts in Antarctica and the members were made Knights of the Royal order of the Duchy of Grand Fenwick.

Because of their vast international fame, it's only natural that New Orchestral Seagulls in the Mode would be approached to take the stage at Live Aid. It was Bob Geldof's own cousin's friend's plumber who approached the band and made sure they had their place in history.

Unfortunately, time limitations allowed for only one song and they chose, of course, their biggest hit - Every Day. It topped the Antarctic charts at number one for three solid months and sold nearly an astounding 15 copies world-wide. In the U.S. it rocketed up the Billboard Charts to #273 and stayed there for almost a solid week, receiving airplay at Boise, Idaho's number one New Wave station at the time.

Though the members of NOSITM all went their separate ways shortly after their moment in the spotlight at Wembly Stadium that July day in 1985, they still keep in touch, often working the same shift at the Belgrade McDonald's. There has been talk of the band getting back together with all the original members. Only time, and the assistant manager who handles shift schedules, will tell if this dream reunion becomes a reality.

Thanks to Lisa for providing me with some appropriate "sound effects" for the tune. ;)

Just so you know how much I'm in the spirit of this challenge: I mixed this song and posted this evening while wearing nothing other than my Pac-Man boxer shorts. So, no peeking ladies... and some of you guys....

Lyrics:
Every Day

©2008 Joseph Gurner

I watch you as you’re walking down the sidewalk at night
so carefree as my eyes caress your face
You pretend you don’t notice as they undress you with their eyeys
and you smile because you know you’ll get your way

But I’ve felt the fire in side you
raging to be free
Like an animal coiled up inside
When you look at me

Every day -----
You look right through me
Every day ----
Then you turn away
Every day ----
I want to kiss you

I just want you more and more
Every day -------

I know your skin is soft as silk and your kisses sweet as wine
You give them as my hands caress your face
You pretend that you’re with me as we fall into your bed
But your eyes are a million miles away

You live your lies throughout the day
waiting for the night
There’s an animal trapped inside of you
Looking through your eyes

Every day -----
You look right through me
Every day ----
Then you turn away
Every day ----
I want to kiss you

I just want you more and more
Every day -------

Every day -----
You look right through me
Every day ----
Then you turn away
Every day ----
I want to kiss you

I just want you more and more
Every day -------

Great 80's &mdash 06/13/08 - 02:28:31 AM
synth sounds on this - very 'New Wave' Like the vocals especially on the chorus.

How can we not peak? You're such a tease... &mdash 06/13/08 - 05:25:57 AM
Great track and fantastic Frankenband you put together. Solid vocals and the ahhs are too much. Excellent production - you really nailed the lead guitar and the brooding bass.

I'll e-mail you the photos later ;) &mdash 06/13/08 - 03:04:41 PM
Of course there's brooding bass. That's what the 80s was about, brooding and angst. Or maybe it was just me.

Thanks for playing along, Bud.

Hi-fi &mdash 06/13/08 - 09:42:11 AM
This one grabs you right at the intro and doesn't let you go.

I Believe The Seagulls... &mdash 06/13/08 - 02:16:27 PM
were actually Penguins, but perhaps that was just a nasty rumor.

Nice 80s synth piece with a wobbly, disturbing, New Wave feel. BTW... could you get me a quarter-pounder with cheese and some fries? ;)

That's a .1134 kilo with cheese.... &mdash 06/13/08 - 03:01:57 PM
...with a side of pomme frites. That'll be €3.89. Please drive around to the first window...

Thanks for listening and taking part in the challenge!

great! &mdash 06/13/08 - 03:27:29 PM
lots of fun.
I particularly liked the backing vocals on the chorus, the porno sound effects, and robotic 80s drums!

Great stuff &mdash 06/13/08 - 05:13:44 PM
The sound is perfect 80s! I love the synths and the guitar is great - terrific bass sound, too. This is a great song in any context, but what a perfect fit for this challenge! Excellent. Nicely done. Peace.

oh, I mean oh-yeah!

who would of guessed you where into 80's music? LOL
Excellent tune Joseph! A real grabber from the start. The synth's are way too cool.

A real March of the Seagulls in Pac Man shorts!

And yet something is missing... &mdash 06/14/08 - 11:29:55 AM
Is it not?

The distinctive NOSITM haircuts and uniforms? Hmm?

Trend-setters like this don't come along all the time, and their impact can't be easily calculated with an abacus, my friend...

And what about the coordinated jerky dance-steps during performance?

I await the video...

Grand Duchy Of Fenwick? &mdash 06/14/08 - 05:17:26 PM
Never mind the mouse that roared, you really dropped a Q-Bomb with this one! I turned on to the opening synth, and grinned all the way through - this is PERFECT!

And now I remember rumors that Duran Duran were actually members of NOSITM recording under a different name. Hearing this, I'd suspect that rumor was true. Love the little effect flourishes in the background - too priceless.

Hope the reunion tour comes through - I'd stand in line for at least a week for tickets! Well... ten minutes for sure. Totally.

That synth!!! &mdash 06/15/08 - 01:00:06 PM
Man, it takes me back to the 'Flock' days. So 80s with the keys totally capturine the vibe.

Vox is authentic in Pet Shop Boys way. A contender!

NOSITM rule! &mdash 06/15/08 - 11:37:01 PM
This must be the 80s (which I appear to have missed) - love the synthy bits and the rumbling bass (nothing above the 5th fret there I imagine). Now, "wearing nothing other than my Pac-Man boxer shorts" is a little disturbing - we get the picture Joe :)

Very good post - a great musical backdrop and cool vocals.

Thanks,
Neil
