Description:
As 80's as I could get.

Lyrics:
walk over a face on the floor
behind the wall there's a knock on the door
no answer but the crack of the whip
taste the pain of a new death trip

ghosts in the crowd bleed into black and white
lost in the trees for a final night
another plea disappears like the noise
of an ocean's roar as the end destroys and

you will always love without mercy
every word from you now
drives another stake through my broken heart

the room is silent and the walls are black
the shame of knowing that you won't come back
close the door for you must obey
the grinning skull of another day

You hit the nail right on the head! &mdash 06/13/08 - 12:07:28 PM
This is straight out of 1985! Absolutely perfect. Very cool tune. I could definitely hear this one being played on my cheap Fred's Dollar Store cassette player (couldn't afford a Walkman). Enjoyed it. Thanks for playing!

And you have succeeded magnificently. I love the drum breaks and the vocal is terrific, especially married to those great lyrics. This is so perfectly 80s! Great mix and sound, too. Nicely done. Peace.

This could &mdash 06/13/08 - 06:11:04 PM
only belong to the mid-80s. Really well done. Excellent synths and drums. Sounds very Depeche Mode!

depeche mode &mdash 06/13/08 - 09:26:10 PM
my only preparation for this challenge was to listen to a few depeche mode songs, so that's where I got all the inspiration for this one!

I actually didn't like Depeche Mode that much at the time (1985), but I do now!
I was more into XTC and Talking Heads at the time...

80's to the max. It must have something, because you made Vic have a flashback to his mustache days.

...is right on the haircut! Those synths nail the era right to the hour, man - makes me want to go rent Tron and watch it with the lights out. The little touches of 'vocoded' lyrics here and there were perfect.

Excellent spice of the 80s - you got it!

I agree with the Depeche comparisons &mdash 06/15/08 - 01:28:28 PM
But this has early Human League stamped all over it. And there's Howard Jones sitting in a corner saying,"I wish I'd written that!"

Vocoder is a nice touch and this will happily sit in my 80s pop playlist amongst the luminaries of the day.

Great work altogether - nailed it.

Jim

I would not have considered doing this sort of thing were it not for the challenge that was posed... a great way to get out of the "comfort zone!"
I think these challenges are among the coolest features of this site.

It's &mdash 07/06/08 - 02:32:31 PM
really a DM lost track. as if they had taken 1981 vince clarke bass line and redone it circa "some great reward".
