Description:
Written in March this year [2008] in a Blackpool hotel room. An observation song, though this is happening now almost everywhere in the UK.
Lyrics:
Before the Storm.
AKA the Blackpool Tango
[ written by John Jenkins- April - 2008 ]
1. We see the world decline in human monkey time,
and watch a social grace begin to fade,
I walk the golden mile, and wonder all the while,
who took us by the hand ? and what they made,
as empty vessels walk the roads of shame,
without a thought they’ll play their mindless game..
Chorus. Before the storm, there maybe sunshine,
Before the drought there could be rain,
We’ve seen it all unfold before us,
We shut it out but all in vein.
It could get worse, it could get better,
Without respect we’ll never know,
If you’re inclined to chase the dragon,
It’s gonna roar, it’s gonna show.
2.. The streets are full of rage, we see another age,
and let the common man, control it al,
The law has given in, and let the vandal win,
And now it’s time to stop and watch it fall.
With greasy steam that fills the evening air,
With candy floss and litter everywhere.
Chorus. Before the storm, there maybe sunshine,
Before the drought there could be rain,
We’ve seen it all unfold before us,
We shut it out but all in vein.
It could get worse, it could get better,
Without respect we’ll never know,
If you’re inclined to chase the dragon,
It’s gonna roar, it’s gonna show.

thanks for listening, it seems you can't make a journey of any distance over here without seeing someone who's had a brain by pass, and it's increasing by the minute.
thanks again,
John.

Thank you Tokai &mdash 06/14/08 - 07:54:44 AM
must listen to some of your work, you mention Shriekback...-no I have never heard them but I'll definately check them out. The name alone sounds interesting, maybe Zappa-ish? thanks for that, I'm always interested in new music.

Brilliant... Brilliant... Brilliant... &mdash 06/13/08 - 04:52:51 PM
John, I really, really love this. It grabs you instantly as a great song. The lyrics are spot on and obviously heartfelt. Every day people are being stabbed and shot, we have become almost blaise about it.
I love the music and the melancholy undercurrent. I think this could sound really special with an orchestra, the chord progressions and strings are lovely. I think that this is also the best production I've heard from you - you just get better and better.
I have sent myself an email to download for when I get my mac back.
Cheers

I feel that you and I have probably got much in common. Firstly though, thank you for your comments and I'm glad you liked it. I recently visited Blackpool where most of this was written over two nights. What a place! though to be fair not a lot different to what's on offer all over this country. What annoys me about it all is that they have the solution and are too spineless to use it. Maybe they need a different sort of suspended sentence these days if you follow me ! -

Suspended Sentence &mdash 06/15/08 - 01:25:42 AM
That would be a good title for something. This is one of my favs from you. Dark and original and dig the latin beat. I could hear a marc ribot solo to this, not his wacky solo stuff but the way he adds texture to a tom waits or robert plant. Really excellent stuff. Regards [ Reply to This ]

weird.
Anyway, a really great song. Bleak but perhaps some hope in there.
Classy work John.
Cheers

thank you &mdash 06/18/08 - 03:21:31 PM
Buckhorn and Dick, I suppose I could have made a bit more of this but just haven't the time at the moment. It's just an observation song that I think very few people living over here would disagree with, however it is now estimated on the news tonight that 55% of British population now see it as probably the most pressing problem in this country. We'll see! - I expect a lot more waffling will now follow.
Thanks for listening and for your comments.

Excellanto! &mdash 07/01/08 - 10:24:58 PM
I'm with Davis America, "human monkey time" is too good.
Excellent song and lyrics. There is a lot of production opportunities in this song, but great the way it is.
Remind me never to go to Blackpool. Or is that the UK in general. Oh, my wife would be so disappointed.
Great job John. [ Reply to This ]
