Description:
Back in the day, Real Politique were destined for great things. Then the company struck 200 bands from the books during the end of 80s stockmarket crash. One gig in a club in Times Square was a highlight, and the Marquee in London was a success for this Glasgow based foursome.

However, this is a piece of real history as the band made this recording in 1985 and there's always talk of a reunion.

They coulda been contenders...

Love the energy &mdash 06/15/08 - 12:11:17 PM
....bouncing off the walls on this one. That bass snaking and thumping all over the song is worth the price of admission by itself, but everything else just cooks. Great song!

Cool &mdash 06/15/08 - 12:11:44 PM
A tune well worth reviving. Lots of energy. True contenders!

Thanks

Yep... &mdash 06/15/08 - 06:07:24 PM
Cool 80s edgy boogie energy going on in here. Real nice bass framework holds it all together.

Too bad they got lost in the corporate numbers game. They showed talent in this tune. But, unfortunately, the truth is that some of the best musical talent was never heard, save by a few lucky people in relatively obscure little clubs. ;)

and the band played on &mdash 06/15/08 - 07:58:56 PM
this is great! everyone is tight like a well oiled machine. If the Who don't show up you're guaranteed their time slot. On second thought, maybe the Who should be moved back.

Great tune & playing guys

not to be too repetitive but.... &mdash 06/15/08 - 10:14:29 PM
I'll say it again... what a tight band!
Great drummer.
thanks for posting.

Thanks all.. &mdash 06/16/08 - 02:12:48 AM
...at least now someone is getting to hear the band - it's more of a tribute coming from you guys than from the 'suits' that frankly care more about the cash aspect than the talent.

At least Real Politique are not lost - just undiscovered (Q: J Morrison)

Cheers guys!

Contenders &mdash 06/16/08 - 02:05:11 PM
If Bob knows what's good for him he'd book these guys. I think we should also get Steve to sit in with them and sing along on the choruses. That would be very cool.

As other people have said, they were super tight. I love the contrast between the rich bass sound and the affected vocals and guitar. This is also one heck of a catchy song and they obviously had what it takes to make it. It really stinks that the suits stopped them. Whatever happened to them?

Real Politique - quick bio: &mdash 06/16/08 - 03:26:48 PM
These boys really had what it takes back then. Tight as hell and an immense live outfit, their deal fell apart as money set aside for new bands was used to shore up investments in the company to satisfy shareholders.

They gig intensively and then as it got harder to get anywhere, life took over and they just moved on. They still live in Glasgow and meet up (except Roddy on guitar who now lives in France). Gordon works drums with Runrig, Paul is doing his own stuff (countyish vibe) and Denis still writing songs for others and putting his own album together.

As Re-al (as we like to call them) they WERE the 80s for me - touring, photos, lights, posters all the stuff I loved doing around them until it got bigger and well, apart from doing NYC, London and a few foreign festivals, got some royalties for being played on (wait for it) Cagney & Lacey (LOL! - the 80s!). They were far ahead of their time and listening to them now they are still relevant.

I'll get some more up soon - I'm not in the zone right now for my own new stuff, so this will keep me occupied in the MacJam zone. Glad you put MJ Live Aid together Lisa, otherwise this bit of nostalgia might have stayed hidden...

Fashioned on Jean Jacques Burnel (Stranglers) - was a feature of Re-al, bass up front. Glad you like.

A real driving, rocker. I love the drums and the bass is perfect - great sound, and really nice playing. This has a really smooth and kicking sound, and the vocals are very cool. Great song; thanks for sharing it with us. Very cool. Peace.

Killer bass &mdash 06/18/08 - 11:42:09 AM
super fat recording - really rocks. I love this sound - too bad they got the ax - there is no justice.

cheers Bud &mdash 06/21/08 - 07:25:04 AM
It was a good recording, I seem to remember that an early use of FX is in there - a fly-by jet was used and it was soooo technically cool then.

I'll put the lyrics up soon - the words are about being snowblinded by the record industry sucking you in, where all is well in the early days, chewing you up and spitting you out after blagging all your creativity for what amounted to zero in the end.

"..I sold them my dreams, they gave me nightmares instead..."

Glad you tunes in to a piece of history that I would like to see resurrected.

1985 here we come &mdash 06/20/08 - 07:39:43 PM
Great track guys, full of energy and fire. Love the production and the arrangement of this.

Too bad about getting dumped by the company, you guys could of made it big time.

Ed

Glad you mention the arrangement &mdash 06/21/08 - 07:29:02 AM
It is a fine piece of pop and that can be a difficult thing to get right when the band's 'thing' was much more rock.

Yeah - let's start a "boot the suit" campaign. It's their loss to ditch talent like this...

Thanks for listening/commenting, Ed.
