Description:
Well, here is the second unplugged song from my recent “Alive And Naked” performance at the Macjams Coffee House. The first one, "Explorers," can be found here: http://www.macjams.com/song/43375

Be well all!

Lyrics:
INSIDE THIS SKIN

I.
Once more the music of the morning,
stirs me in my bed.
I awake and smile to find myself
in this place again.
Then I offer up a word of “thanks,”
for life inside this skin.

II.
I went out to take some coffee,
with a dear old friend.
Did he connect with me?
Did I connect with him?
So very much eludes us,
here inside this skin.

1st CHORUS:
I’m afraid to look back o’er my own shoulder,
into the mists of what has already been.
My past’s receding at an alarming rate.
The future’s just around the bend.

2nd CHORUS:
The world around me is changing ever-faster,
or is it that I’ve slowed down a bit?
Perhaps someday we’ll find the answers we’ve been seeking.
Dear Lord, deliver me from myths!

III.
A meeting of the heart and mind begins
beyond the ego’s din.
But communication soon breaks down
as each one plays to win.
Sometimes it’s very hard for you and I
to penetrate this skin.

IV.
Another days’ end and I’m drifting
off to sleep my friends.
As I nod I start to wonder
if I’ll ev'r see you again?
Meanwhile, I’m just “doin’ time,”
---alone inside this skin.

Just so you know, I am planning to do a full rock version soon, with Vic Holman playing slide guitar leads. So stay tuned!

I also hope to post some more of my "Alive and Naked at the MJ Coffee House" songs.

Anyway, glad you enjoyed this bro!

Be well!

Unplugged often gives the song more emotion and feeling. This is FANTASTIC Mr Wark!!!

I love it! Your vocals are so rich and true. Absolutely wonderful!

Glad you enjoyed it my friend!

This unplugged thing is proving to be way more fun for me than I thought it would be. I'm glad folks are enjoying it.

You sure are prolific Mike &mdash 06/16/08 - 07:36:07 PM
Difficult to keep up with, but I'm doing my best ;)

I think your unplugged songs are a really nice addition to your big production numbers.

This is really good.

Actually Neil... &mdash 06/17/08 - 02:52:59 AM
.....it's rather easy to be "prolific" when one is merely recycling old tunes! Ha ha...

There are more remixes, more unplugged songs, and even a few new tunes all currently on the old drawing board; so perhaps you've got a point.

Thanks for finding time to listen and comment friend. I realize you've been rather busy.

Be well!

ya know &mdash 06/16/08 - 08:47:55 PM
in your time off you could stand in front of the courthouse and play these at the entry way. I'm sure you could pick up a few bucks. As long as you make a deal with the security cop.

very nice Mike.

It's nice to have you out there in the audience!

And just so you know, it's easy to strum when one is all hopped up on expresso!

I never actually performed in a real coffee shop. I did play on streetcorners, in parks, at churches, and---with my folk/Gospel group---got on local TV in Phoenix once.

However, I did sit and listen to OTHER musicians play in those old haunts...Perhaps I heard you once...

I like unplugged Warks &mdash 06/16/08 - 09:47:46 PM
and the electric, as well. This is cool, Mike. I like hearing just you and your guitar, true coffeehouse style. You sound so relaxed and natural. I like these lyrics and how you sing with such feeling. The audience sounds real, too.

Lovely &mdash 06/16/08 - 10:26:30 PM
I really enjoyed this a lot, Michael. First, it was a pleasure to hear your speaking voice, which is really different than I'd pictured, second, it was really nice to hear you singing in such a minimal production. You sounded great and I loved the positive energy and feeling in this one. I'm so used to your big productions and this was a change, but it genuinely suits you.

Hi Lisa! &mdash 06/17/08 - 03:15:36 AM
Glad you enjoyed this.

As for my speaking voice, folks are often surprized when they find out that I don't sound at all like Taz! Ha ha...

I have been very comfortable in big productions. It's easy to hide in them. When I did "Tunnel Vision," the response blew me away, and gave me the courage to try the unplugged approach.

It is very, very nice to hear from you friend...

Be well!

Excellent lyrics Micheal &mdash 06/16/08 - 11:15:04 PM
Like the little break in the middle and the way you just play it with your voice, nice touch. This has a really nice feel about the whole song my friend and you did a great job on it. Kudos Micheal

RE the middle break: I'm glad you like it. As for me...I'm not entirely sure I do. I feel I should have spent a little more time perfecting the "oooooh" part before recording...Oh well! The "la-de-dum" part came out OK!

Thanks for listening and commenting friend!

Hi Micheal, first of yours I've heard so glad to have took the chance because I really enjoyed this. Great live feel and your guitar sound is superb (vocals are great and a clever lyric too). A rocked version would be nice to hear for comparison but the directness of this acoustic version will take some beating. Off to check out yoiur other posts now.
Cheers

I did a rock version of this some time back with me playing electric slide leads and piano, but I botched it. I'm looking forward to remaking it. In the meantime, it seemed a suitable Coffee house offering. Glad you like it!

I'm sorry I missed your performance at the coffee house. I wasn't sure if you were gonna be naked literally or figuratively and I didn't want to chance it. Great song Micheal thought provoking lyrics and a heartfelt performance.

No, I'm not literally "naked"! "Naked'"=unplugged.

"STARK naked" would then be Acapella I guess... (and I just might attempt that too!)

Glad you liked the song my friend!

A little LOWER? Where's the fun in THAT? Besides, everybody needs a gimmick. How else could I have sold tickets to this event?

The old rock version, which was botched, is not posted. However, I hope to have a new rock version posted sometime this summer.

Thanks for listening and commenting my friend!

Ha ha...the list keeps growing. One Macjammer who heard the original version remarked that I sounded like Brian Ferry. I've never heard him so I don't know...

On the contrary, I've always felt I sound remarkably like myself! Oh wel, what do I know anyway?!?!?

Hey Nick, I'm glad you like the tune. Thanks so much for listening and commenting friend!

I'm finding it hard to get naked for the Coffee House - though I'm naked as I write this - but that's different. You seem quite comfortable with just voice and guitar - maybe I'll get there.
