like how it starts up soft and goes into a rock type feel.

thanks for listening! believe it or not, i shaved almost one minute off this tune... and it still seems long. :)
Cool work, great choice of sounds and well composed, played, placed. This is going to play on my mind for a long time... I love it, welcome to MJ my friend!

thank you for your kind words! i have a friend on macjams here and saw that this would be a great place to get some feedback and inspiration. i'm off to check out your stuff now!
Dragonas
Amazingly simple and epic at the same time!
I'm a big fan of this sound.
The slow build up reminded me of Sigur Rós.
The banjo at the end was perfect!
Fav'd.
12parsecs
thanks. i sometimes like a simple song or idea - which leaves room for other aspects of the piece to speak out... like dynamics.
oh yeah, the banjo. :) i got it for my birthday from my brother 5 years ago. at the time i thought "hmmm, i'm never going to use this" but now i use it whenever i can! it really cuts through a mix and grabs you attention.
Peter Bauckham
Really like the way this builds up - great arrangement. The banjo finishes it off nicely.

thank you, peter! i just checked out your rainy day collab. you must be singing about where i'm from... it's always just another rainy day here.

Great that you've joined this site. Hope to hear more from you in the future.
Somehow, if you put songs up at the same time, one will be sort of lost. Better is to wait 2 or 3 days to post another. Trust me, it's better.
This loud, Louder, LOUDER and quiet.
Nice dynamics. Hope you like this compliment......sort of Cold Play-ish.
Dave

i totally see the cold play angle. the tone in the guitar and the droning nature of it. and, yes, that is a compliment.
btw, thanks for the advise on the song posting. i did notice my first one go missing. i can understand why, too. it's all good, considering my other tunes still need some work... so there will be a delay before i get them up.
Skean
Hey this is cool dig it.... Really like hove it builds... D-loaded.
12parsecs
thanks. there's a band called mogwai (from glasgow) that has a lot of instrumental songs that have such incredible dynamic range. if you liked this, you should check them out.
Skean
I have to check them out I kinda like this sort of stuff u now.
Take care

this mix is awesome! so complete. did you add stuff to it or just take away? really stoked you joined macjams.
12parsecs
thank you, mr sorensen. mostly what i took away from this mix is time... almost a minute. i'm going to have to update my myspace page with these new versions.
i also pumped up the levels of certain parts' entry points, so try to give more of a "stepped" climb in dynamics, if you will.
Lennon714
well done! A very moody and moving piece. Reminds me of the good old days of Jimmy Eat World when they'd start and end an album with something epic and moving like this. Great job all around!
12parsecs
thanks for the compliment. i love jimmy eat world, especially their older stuff. i agree, i was thinking of this tune as a closer on an album. cheers!
gail60
I really enjoyed this. Simple yet very powerful. Very cool! The banjo was a unique unexpected touch. Very well done! Welcome to Macjams. Looking forward to hearing more from you!
12parsecs
glad you liked the banjo. i love to use it because it's not normally heard along side distortion gtrs and synths. i will definitely be putting up a few more tunes once in the coming weeks. thanks for you comments!
MarkHolbrook
Like was said above... The mix is really sweet!
12parsecs
thanks for listening. i love mixing as much as i love writing and playing, so i take a great deal of pride in that.
actually, upon listening again, i can hear that during mastering i went a little too hot at the peak of the song and got some crunchiness going on. ah well, psychoacoustically, it makes it seem that much louder.
kassia
Very cool tune. Definitely has a Sigur Ros sorta sound. The build up was perfectly done. Great layering and awesome sounds here. It's simple tune, but the way you've played it all out makes it epic. Welcome to MacJams! I look forward to hearing more of your music.
12parsecs
there's that Sigur Ros again... which is really cool to be compared to, thanks! i really haven't heard that much of there stuff, aside from the vanilla sky soundtrack. i should really pick up their cd. sounds like it's right up my alley. cheers!
I saw the Cold Play reference and another band that came to mind while listening to this was Lifehouse. Really cool tune, and a definite download!
12parsecs
thanks mike. glad to be compared to either of those pro bands.
guitapick
...both of your tunes have so much depth to them...very cool...excellent sonic treats...
Welcome to MJ, man...
12parsecs
thanks for noticing that there's more to these tunes than just dynamics! it's very subtle, yet accessible, but there are some pretty technical, music-geek things going on deep in the bowels of my writing. (ewww, gross analogy.) i like to try different forms and structures, without alienating the listener. this song, if i recall correctly, has a 6 bar progression. not rocket science, but a little different.
guitapick
More than meets the eye...sweeeet...
Feter
nice structure ...and pickin ..I m a big banjo
fan ..so I was wonderiin how you gonna use this one .
pretty interestin ..very inspirational ..thnx for sharin !!!
12parsecs
i'm glad you found it inspirational. it sort of starts of melancholy and fights it's way out of it, into a happy resolving bajo. :) speaking of happy: happy 2-years at MJ, Feter!
aclarke
I'll be the first to admit my preference for vocal oriented songs. But this one is something special. What a great build... excellent sonic experience with so much going on, yet nothing detracts or distracts. THIS is what indie music is all about!
Thanks for posting and thanks to rsorensen for pointing out this gem!
12parsecs
glad i could sway you to the dark side -- the vocal-less side of the force! definitely wanted that indie, quiet to wall-of-sound, feel for this one. thanks mr clarke! and, yes, thanks ridd for turning people on to me. (or simply turning people on. :)
LaLa_Divina
I like the mood you have created. I like the song!

just got this message, which amused me:

hehe. back to your post, tina. thanks for the praise! i am really glad you enjoyed it and you felt the mood i was trying to convey. music, let's face it, is an emotional connection. if i were able to communicate my melancholy mood through that opening bit, i am more than please. ecstatic, in fact! mission accomplished! thanks again! :)
eleveneyes
very nice build and you come down gently. very cool stuff!
12parsecs
thanks for checking it out! digging your stuff too!
buckhorn
some trancendant great work....love your stuff a lot. I hear a little cold play , hope that doesn't offend. Really great, add some vocals. You sing better than apples dad anyhow. Regards
12parsecs
whoa, whoa!... what's with the big words?!? i'm canadian, you know! (just kidding. us canadians is smrt too, eh!) oh yeah, happy canada day, fellow canucks! sorry, i digress.
thanks for the comment. i am totally not offended by the coldplay comparison. in fact, i can definitely see what you are talking about, with the tone of the lead gtr, and the nature of the progression. i thought about adding vocals, but just wanted to keep this one instrumental, save for the vocoder synth. kind of a mogwai vibe. thanks for listening!
Bob Rodgers
enjoy your music and this is another great track!
I love the way the song builds and this is a nice arrangement with great dynamics! I like the banjo on the outro and I love how it comes in, a great addition to the song!
A great mix and superb production!

Sorry forgot to say..I'm late here to this but welcome to MacJams!
I'm always last :-)
12parsecs
thanks for checking it out. it's never too late, imo. ah yes, the banj! the song is none too complicated, so i like throwing in things that are unexpected, but hopefully engaging, such as banjo. hehe. cheers, bob!
ageofthedeathtree

my feelings certainly won't be hurt if you compare me to such a talented and *heavy* band. cheers! thanks for checking out what twelve parsecs has to offer... so far... more to come.
michael2
you're good. mogwai is a great starting point, i like a lot of the instrumental post-rock stuff that is out. really cool piece, liking the bass a lot and when the chiming guitars come in it's perfect. actually the build is perfect all the way through.glad you're here at MJ.
12parsecs
i'm glad i'm here at mj too! it's been a lot of fun listening and sharing. it's just the kick in the ass i needed to start finishing off some of my works in progress.
and the build... since it's specific instruments i want brought up at specific times, i had to write a lot of volume automation to achieve this. it was a lot more work than i anticipated. thanks for the comment!
