Peter Pan (3)Neverland (3)
Description:
My friend Russ came over this weekend and we recorded this song. Russ is putting together an album of children's music based on characters largely recognized through Disney films. After we recorded it we played it for my daughter who said it was, and I quote, "Awesome" then asked to hear it again, but louder. I'm 4 of the people shouting "Peter Pan" at the beginning and Russ is the other 4. Russ does everything else. I got to play engineer/producer. It was a different project and I'm glad Russ let me record his song. I'm currently working with Russ on his power-pop project "Somebuddy". Hopefully Russ will join MacJams soon and you'll hear more from him and Somebuddy.

Editors note: Russ HAS sinced joined MJ. See... Somebuddy

Russ also put together a video here:

Peter Pan on YouTube

Lyrics:
I got a friend what's his name? Peter Pan
He's so brave he cut off Captain Hook's hand.
To give the pirates a sporting chance
He only uses half a lance
The brave and wonderful boy, Peter Pan.

Oh yeah, and did I mention he can fly
Just one happy thought and he soars through the sky
But don't forget the pixie dust
Tinkerbell gives all she must.
So come to Neverland with Peter Pan

So come to Neverland with Peter,
Come to Neverland.
Come to Neverland with Peter Pan

Tick Tock, Tick Tock &mdash 06/18/08 - 01:21:32 AM
I have a serious Peter Pan problem and have written a Peter Pan song of my own, so I'm an incredibly biased critic, but I L.O.V.E this. It's the best kind of children's music, something that can appeal to children, but is written and performed as though it were any other great song.

I love the accordion, especially because Smee played the accordion. Eric, you have to get Russ to come here again, this song shows a wonderful ear and a playfulness with music that I really enjoy.

Oh yeah did I mention he could fly?

Wow &mdash 06/18/08 - 11:45:24 PM
A Peter Pan problem? Like at first you started out small and before you knew it you started selling your family's furniture for your next Peter Pan fix?

I'm glad you liked the song. Russ and I are proud of it even though we decided to do it spur of the moment. I believe Russ signed up today for MJ so we'll be seeing some more of him around these parts.

The Peter Problem &mdash 06/19/08 - 06:12:29 PM
Yeah, that's basically it. Except it was more like leaving the window open, "just in case," even when I was told not to and running up the heating bills.

You mentioned down below to Vic about wishing more people would be forthcoming with criticism and I've found that if you specifically for it in the song description, more people will be more than happy to bust it out. Go and check out the comments section on my song "Helium," if you want to see what people were willing to say when I asked for them to take off the gloves. It was great.

Really cute &mdash 06/18/08 - 09:17:45 AM
Great song, and I'm sure the kids will love this.

I was very disappointed that after the first "Peter Pan!" I didn't get the chance to shout any more lines along with the singer. I think children like repetition and they like participating in a performance. So why not give them more of a chance? (Of a chance!)

Thanks Vic. &mdash 06/18/08 - 11:50:22 PM
Well hey, what's stopping you from shouting lines? :). It's actually our favorite part, too. The recording was unplanned and we didn't really get a chance to think the whole thing out. Our wives had the kids for a reasonably small amount of time and after he played the song I said, "Let's put it on wax" in my best 1930's voice. Since then we've talked about making some changes that will perhaps see new life on MJ. Thanks for the listen and the critique. I'm always glad to see someone offer criticism. I honestly wish people would be more forthcoming with that stuff, but I understand it can be difficult.

Peter Pan &mdash 06/18/08 - 01:44:19 PM
The best children's songs imo are ones like this - that don't "talk down" to kids and have broad appeal. Really cool. Oh - and I agree with vic - more 'PETER PAN' chanting would be a great idea. Great production, Eric. Hope your friend signs up soon.

thanks! &mdash 06/18/08 - 11:55:50 PM
What can I say? Russ is the Yngwie of keyboard accordion. The problem that some may have picked up on starts in my poor production/engineering abilities. We didn't bother to tune the guitar before we started so the accordion and the guitar are slightly out of tune. Not too bad, but it's there. Thanks again for listening!

....I love his peanut butter.
This song is great. The simple straightforward arrange works well on this. Fun stuff!

You can't be amazed over your own song. You're making it sound like a KISS interview.

This is nice &mdash 06/19/08 - 05:07:16 PM
Made me smile. Love the naive tone in it; not sure if I should laugh or play along. I chose playing. Very different, love the accordion. Thanks/M
